Bit expensive but still a bucket load better value than the iFruit X

      • +1

iFruit 7 has a better battery than the iFruit X - LOL

    • +16

      Ouch

      • How are you getting by with such a low net worth?

    • What version of Android are you on by the way?

    • -6

Bit expensive but still a bucket load better value than the iFruit X

I had big hopes for this phone to jump ship form Apple. Unfortunately it looks really disappointing. The facial recognition is still sub par, the fingerprint scanner is awkward and the benchmark speeds are slow compared with iphone x,8 and even in some areas compared with the 7.

I made a decision that I won't buy another iphone and will try and stick to that, however, if I was going to buy another phone this year and pay a premium price I would probably get the iphone x. Yeah, it is expensive and over priced but seems like a much better phone. At least the facial recognition is fast and secure. If you are going to pay these ridiculous kind of prices for a phone I think I would just pay a couple of hundred extra and get the one that suits you better.

As for me, I guess I will keep my iphone 6s for another year and hope another decent phone comes out that is both practical and functional…..and has something novel or groundbreaking enough to justify spending more money.

Disclaimer: I am not an Apple fanboy, I have really come to dislike the company.

      • +2

Look at some of the direct comparison videos on Youtube. The benchmarks tell somewhat of a distorted view on real world use.

        • thanks for pointing that out…cheers

S9 is a much nicer looking phone that's for sure

        • Got the S9, the S9+ has additional 2gb ram which will make it more future proof. I had the S7 previously and i notice just the general improvement across the board. Touchwiz is refined as ever and i honestly prefer it over stock android. Just a way more premium experience.

    • Standard Android users smug response. Because Android phones are just far superior. Such smart people for not spending all that extra money on an iPhone. This is coming from a long time Android user. It's a damn phone people. Most product sponge humans these days use them for none other than dumb Facebook selfies anyways. Get over yourselves.

    Good Price for local stock.
Cheaper than regular JB-hi-fi staff Price.

    • +1

vodaphone staff price is like 867$ :]

  • Rrp is 1349 list price is 1482.99 and doesn't include wireless charger. EBay discount is partially offset by list price. No deal

    • Samsung offer a bonus charger through their website.
This is not a necessity for me (I'm buying as a gift) hence I've gone ahead with the purchase.
It does not mean that it is not a deal. Price is cheaper than that on Samsung website. Am aware of how the eBay price reflects on the RRP.
      Thank you for your comment.

    • +1

      So its less than RRP?

      It is a deal then.

  • +1

God damn it, just bought full price on the Samsung site on Thursday. I don't really care about wireless charger as I already have one, this would have been a go for me

    • Oh no! Did you get 5% CR tracked? Decided not to buy last week, very glad!

    • At east claim your 10k QFF from buying from the Samsung sight! A $100 discount

      • Yeah I did get the 10k QFF points and I used Honey & cashback, I'm still not sure if both will give me the rewards though, but both were active when I went through checkout.

        • How has honey been working for you?
I tried it a year ago or so and it didn't do anything at all for me. I assumed because it was more of a us thing then so more had their coupons

        • +1

@Pyrock: To be fair it was the first thing I bought from it, so will have to see

    • just bought full price on the Samsung site on Thursday

Haven't you learned anything on OzB?
1st rule of OzB - Don't buy anything Full Price, 2nd rule of OzB - DON'T BUY ANYTHING FULL PRICE!

      • I wouldn't normally, only my phone is at 50% battery by time I get to work. If I didn't have a USB charger on my desk it wouldn't even get close to lasting a whole day.

        • buy xiaomi power bank

        • @andyken:

I have one, I'm not carrying around a battery pack permanently. I love a good deal, but I'll be damned if I'm carrying around a power pack in my suit like tony stark.

        • @Imsopov:

          i think you got better deal on samsung site: $1349 - $100 (QFF Point) - $55 (wireless charging) - $67.45 (CR 5%) = $1126.55 for 256GB and this is only 64gb

        • @andyken:

$1349 was for 64, 256 was around 1499 from what I can remember

        • @Imsopov: power bank in suit pocket. blitzwolf 1.8m cable attached running down sleeve. plug phone in when you want to. tuck it back when you'r not using it.

  • I gusss this is not the dual sim version?

    • I think Australian stock won't have dual sim version. I'm looking for dual sim version as well but seems like dual sim and warranty doesn't go together means you can't have both :(

    • If you want dial sim you will need to get an international model

  • -6

They have the same hardware in them as the S8, just a slightly better upgraded rear camera. Seems pricey for a camera upgrade

    • +5

      Wouldn't say same specs.
It has more Ram, Faster CPU, Better shooter and Better Speakers.
Though they are not major upgrades the average consumer will notice.

      • +1

Yeah I just think I would rather wait for the next gen version that might have more substantial upgrades, just don’t think this one has the value for money over previous model

        • +1

Probably not worth it if you are upping from an S8, but for anyone looking to upgrade from a device more than a year old, should be pretty decent.

      • +1

Yeah, if it was Apple, these upgrades would make it eligible for them to call it "the most revolutionary iPhone ever!!"

    • -5

It seems both Apple and Samsung are having a "my d1ck is bigger than yours" contest by just trying to get the bigger number. Apple is winning as they just skipped 9 and went for 10.

      • Who cares if they're on 10! Samsung beats them in the length and the width! Feels just right in the hand!

        • I don't use either Samsung phones or Apple phones. Was just pointing out that for a while it seemed they were both rushing to release new phones.

  • Does anybody know how warranty would work from these guys? I'm looking to buy as a gift and don't want to lump a terrible warranty process on someone

    • +1

Since it's AU stock the warranty should be available direct through Samsung.

      • +1

For Samsung warranty you need AU stock and you need to purchase from an authorised reseller

        • +3

Allphones are an authorised Samsung Reseller. No problems here :)

        • +1

          @crazycs:

I thought they would be but wanted to point it out in case as it is one is Samsung's conditions :)

  • +3

They jacked the price up to offset the ebay discount. $1482 for the 64GB, thats only $17 off the RRP for the 256GB version.
I would wait for another 20% off Good Guys or Bing Lee. They seem to play fair and keep prices the same and you can maximise your discount by actually getting 20% off the price.

    • +1

my thoughts are the same, i said above and getting negged for it.

      • -8

Not sure why you are getting negged for stating something thats factually true?

    • Totally agree, they shouldn’t participate in this 20% sale if they don’t want to cope with the discount, bad practice!

    • -1

There is no meaning in stating $17 off a completely different model. May as well say its also $xx off a new TV.
No implication of a true 20% saving in the deal.
I went through with it, was happy with my purchase and decided to share.
Best wishes with such a discount during preorder.

      • +1

There's a lot of meaning in saying that it's only $17 cheaper then the more expensive version is normally. It shows that the seller has set their base price far higher then it should be just so they can cheap out on the supposed 20% saving.

  • -1

If you have certain phones you can use the Trade Up program on Samsung site to just get discount. You don't have to actually trade in phone.
With my galaxy s5 it comes to similar price

    • What do you mean you don't actually have to trade in phone?

I was just on the Samsung site trying to decide if I want to do it in-store or online.

"Send your old device back in the supplied shipping satchel to complete the trade-in. The eligible post trade-in amount^^ will be paid into your nominated bank account."

Did they not ask for your trade-in phone?

      • There is a $125 "upfront" discount applied separate to trade in value post delivery. Only applies to some phones such as previous galaxy phones iPhone6 or later and high value androids.
You only have to verify you own it.

        • +1

Ah… I get what you're referring to now. The bonus for newer phone, not the trade in.

Not my downvote by the way.

  • I will wait to Xmas before thinking about getting S9. As per usual initial price at announcement is not worth paying for. It will sure go under $800 in 1/2 years time

I got a S7E not even thinking if I need an upgrade atm.

    • I'm regretting of buying S8 plus. S7e is still my daily driver :P Awesome to hold in hand and the screen looks so good.

Only downside is the battery life which isn't as good as it was a year ago… wondering if I should let Samsung replace the battery.

  • -2

    Bargain!!

  • +1

Comparing it with Samsung's pre-order offer, you are missing:
    - 10K QFF points (worth $100 in the usual conversion of 1c/point)
    - Wireless charger (they say RRP is $109, but let's value it at $55 - half its RRP)
    - Potential 5% Cashrewards from samsung vs 1% from ebay

Samsung's RRP of $1349 seems to be a slightly better deal than this. imo.

  • +2

Remember the days when phones costs now more than $500 with top Nokia phones, idk how phones can quadruple within 15 year span, or it’s either we are getting over charged.

    • It's crazy. Top end flagship Android phones used to be $800 maximum. Phones have not been exciting or revolutionary for many years, I am quite happily still using my S6 and when I do upgrade I will not be spending this exorbitant amount of money. My main use for the phone is web browsing/emails and I have a good camera, so why upgrade.

      • Maybe not exciting for you, but the bezelless and curved screen of the s8 and s9 are incredible. Thats a revolutionary jump for me, it looks and feels like what imagined phones would be in the future. I couldn't go back to flat and big bezels.

Also the s6 does have a great camera, but the s9 is miles better. To some people thats worth upgrading for.

        • you should tell google. over 1k phone with t h i c c bezels

    • -2

Maybe because these phones to loads of more stuff and are loads more advanced.
You didnt have 3 high quality cameras in that Nokia, did you? These are as good as the couple of hundred dollar cameras you had to buy separately back then.

  • +1

If you have an edu.au email, you can get the S9+ 64GB from Samsung Education Store for $1,214.10 shipped with wireless charger.
    https://shop.samsung.com/au/multistore/auepp/samsung_educati…

  • I got this phone yesterday and it feels almost like a downgrade from the Note 8 I was using… I tried both cameras in low light, and the difference is marginal.

    • How is it a downgrade if the difference is marginal (assuming the S9 has slightly better low light)? You haven't mentioned anything else.

Interested as I am getting the S9 probably

      • -1

Good point, the downgrade is the slightly smaller screen and loss of the S Pen (which I used moderately)

        • Why did you switch then? You knew that it didn't have the pen.

        • -1

          @ilikeradiohead:

I like having the latest phone, I've only had the Note 8 a few months anyway so not too attached. I will be getting the Note 9 as soon as it comes out.

  • This or Pixel 2??

    • This.

Pixel 2 has a better camera (probably, but it will be close), smoother OS and faster updates tho. So depends on how important those things are to you,

      • +2

I think the camera comparisons come down to colour/saturation differences, with the S9/S9+ generally coming out on top with better sharpness. Some software improvements to the "auto" mode could make it even better. You could potentially get more mileage from the S9/S9+ if you used the camera in pro mode.

For the colour differences, I think some minor post processing could make a huge difference.

  • I own an s8+. I dropped it last week and cracked the screen a little in 2 corners. Just yesterday the screen went epelectic and flashed green off and on for an hour. It's been going this a bit lately. Is the warranty still valid (bought outright at dick smith 7 months ago) or am I better off buying this new 9+.

    • It will depend on the extent of the damage but if the cracks are quite visible I doubt you will be able to claim warranty. If you break phones regularly like me you should consider Telstra Swap Assure - only $190 each time you break it. Saved me $4-5k over a period of 2 years.

      • a case and screen protector is <$50 and will save you more.

        • For me the utility of having a naked phone is worth more than the $120 I pay for swap assure. Personally don't want to spend a grand + on a beautiful phone but then diminish the aesthetics by putting a case on it (as opposed to paying an extra 10% to avoid the need). I also don't get depressed when I get scratches or dents :) because the brand new flagship is only ever $190 or $99 away…

        • @nietzsche bargain: so you once bought a phone for 1k and ever since you've received a few 1k phones by paying 190 a year?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

Correct. There was a period where I went through 6 flagship Samsungs in 2 years :)

        • @nietzsche bargain: you should probably post that as a bargain. Break it the second the new flagship comes out. FK me never thought of that!

I looked it up and if you kept it in good nic it's $99. Wow

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

Hahah I think they cottoned on to that perverse incentive - now with the lease plans +swap assure you don't need to have a damaged phone, it's just $90 (after 12 months) or $190 (within 12 months) to sign a new contract with a new phone.

        • @nietzsche bargain: do you have to always be on a plan. Say your 24 months is finished, can you just continue with the swap assurance?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: You do - every time you exercise your swap, you are essentially signing a new 24 month contract. This is the commercial reason they introduced it - improve customer retention through this lock-in.

  • $1200 not a bargain, buy an LG.
