SYD to VIE/FRA/AMS/FCO China Airlines Premium Economy Return during Christmas Peak from $1760 (Dec 22nd Dept Available)

80

Was looking for economy flights to Europe on Google Flights for the end of the year and found some decent premium fares that I couldn't resist!

For the dates I was looking at (SYD-FRA Dec 22nd depart), the next cheapest fare was ~$3500 on Qantas/Lufthansa.

Looks like flights to FCO/VIE are the cheapest currently at $1759, followed by FRA at $1825.

For what it's worth, I got mine from a small travel agent on friend's recommendation and they were another $100 cheaper - well more like $65 cheaper because there was a 2% credit card fee. Before this I had always booked the cheapest on Google flight or similar search sites thinking they were the lowest!

I've only flown them once to NZ and it was pretty good, but caveat emptor about their safety record in case you haven't read about it in previous deals before.

  • I'm flying Singapore airlines to Amsterdam and back from france. $1600. Xmas period

    • It’s not premium economy though. Try that to see how much the price goes up

      • Is premium economy on china airlines better than economy on singapore Airlines?

        • If you had a look at youtube videos of CI's premium economy seat you'd find there's no comparison - they're different products after all. CI's premium economy seat has a hard shell back so it would not recline and impede the passenger behind.

I've flown SQ quite a few time, most recently to London last year (economy of course). In terms of services I'd say they're on par with each other.

  • My wife is Chinese, and even she won't fly china Airlines zz

    • It depends where you are going and how much extra you are willing to pay.

      • And china airline is from Taiwan, not China.

        • They used to have lots of troubles long time ago. I remembered to case where they fall into the sea in Hong Kong air port. I think I did not hear any accidents for many years already. I won't fly Malaysian Air Line for sure.

        • @bbtlovebbt:
While Putin is in power, it's better to not fly any airline over Russia or Ukraine for that matter.

    • Everyone I know who is chinese including myself will not fly China Airlines. I love a bargain too but last time I was forced to fly it from HK the seat was wobbly it MOVED during the flight and I then I saw the seat in front actually was not screwed properly to the floor and banging up and down! Unbelievably bad!!

      • LOL was this on a HKG-TPE or TPE-Aus?

  • Ge Just did a dummy booking MEL-VIA. $3600 return in Premium for two pax which is pretty good. Flights have a 17 hours layover in Taipai. :( Winder if you can take leave the airport and take a day trip into town? Is the safety record of CA pretty dodgy?

Here's an interesting video I saw for a quick trip out of the airport

      https://youtu.be/CP6aYDssDSE

They have a history of accidents but looks like they've improved lately

      • Btw it's CI not to be confused with CA

Good thing about a layover in Taipei is that the subway system is excellent and there's great food to be had between 10 am and 10 pm…even later in some suburbs
