  • Is there anywhere in Aus where you could try these out in store?

    • I don't think any where but online stores in Australia have it.

    • Yes, you can try it out at Minidisc in Chatswood NSW.

They have a crazy amount of headphones you can test out there, and even amps you can play with too.

      • I assumed that Minidisc didn't have it any more as they only have the X2HR model listed on their online site for $299 and even that's a back order.

        • ah sorry, yes I was talking about the X2HR. I thought they were the same, my bad.

        • I don't think there's much difference between the two models, it's essentially a re-release as Gibson bought the Fidelio name, apparently headband and earpad materials are slightly different but the sound is basically the same.

If you pick these up cheap you can try them "free" or almost "free" by selling them as new: never used soon after you recieve them.

    Not the historical low.
You could get these from eBay KG electronic during the 20% eBay sale for $240. $10 extra for local stock.

ok so what about now. Any better deals for this headphone right now?. Not speaking of the past of course since you obviously can't go back to the past and buy it.

      • +1

I think it's still a useful comment for those on the fence.

      • This price is alright. But it has been lower in the past, so for those that can wait, there is a good chance that it can be lower than the current price.
I did + vote on the deal, but would personally wait for it to be a little cheaper.

    • +4

Huh? So then they were $10 more than the current price? So it's now cheaper…

      • Not sure about you, but I would always pay an extra 5% to obtain local warranty.
I had bad experience with Amazon UK in the past for warranty claims (faulty hard drive).

        2 points where being made

        • This deal is not the historical low (not even for Amazon UK).
        • It is not even much cheaper than local stock has been.

That is why the 2 lines where seperated by a full stop and a line break ie 2 points being made. As far as informing potential buyers/bargain hunters those are two very important details.

        • where

I now understand the neg votes, should be 'were'

  • Personally I found these to sit low after awhile, as if the weight of ear cups was not properly countered by the headband. Als, the velvety ear pads get pretty gross as they collect fluff/hair etc. But sound, build and comfort are all very good.

    • +1

I use some packing tape to get all that fluff that collects on my meterial type earpads. Works well on Sennheiser and Hifiman cans.

    • How is the bass? Which other hps are they similar to (in terms of bass)?
I have been on the fence for these.
      Thanks

      • tbh, I don't use them much and am by no means an expert. I have the Sony MDR1A which I find to be more comfortable (lighter and for the reasons above) & are closed back (better for my daily commute). The Philips would have less bass than the Sony, which likely makes the Philips more accurate (Sony is a bit bass heavy). That said, can't really compare open and close back headphones as they sound vastly dissimilar anyway.

If you want open back headphones I can't think of anything better than these Philips. If you want to dip your toes, the Philips SHP9500 are very similar for a fraction of the price.

Z reviews does some good breakdowns

      • Quite a bit of a bump in the bass if you look at the frequency response.

    • I cut up a slice of the soft foam they shipped with (inside the box) and double sided taped between the two headband parts, works a treat.

  • i got a pair, i think at this price i would get them but ear pads can get gross which is infuriating, if you replace the ear pads with a different material then you should be fine.

  • Use them every day, it's nicccee, does get hot sometimes in summer because of the material of the ear pads

  • Fantastic open headphones with great comfort.

    Cannot reccommend it enough.
