can confirm that this is correct.

if you live in a state that does not have Bing Lee (Vic for example) then they will also add the shipping costs.

  • So, these or the Ubiquity Access Points? Choices…

Well, the Google router is going to lose you money down the line obviously unless you're foolish enough top believe that you're immune to marketing.

Why anyone would want to position a Google hardware device between their computer and the rest of the internet is beyond me. Data slurpee anyone?

        • +4

I assume you don’t have an android phone ?

@jimbobaus: Excellent point! But yes, I do. I've rooted it, never connected it to the Google Play store (don't even have an account), and it's running a very strong firewall with granular configuration options. The few apps that I do run on it (none of them Google) have been purchased directly from the developer websites and have been installed through ADB (Android Debug Bridge) as .apk files. Not a perfect setup, but it goes a long way to keeping Google away from my private data. I don't really use the device for anything online though (no web browsing/social media/etc). I do let it connect for Signal and checking my private email server.

I must admit that when it comes to mobile phones, it's getting a lot harder to protect your data. Heck it's getting a lot harder all the way around.

        • @sarasani: Wow… and here I am collecting Google Play credit answering surveys.

Reckon Google know more about me than I know about me.

        • @jlogic:
          True.
Next time you forget something about you… just Google it. :)

    • I assume you mean Ubiquiti Unifi access points - the ones commonly seen on ozbargain - and not other Ubiquiti products.

If you can run the cables and already have a router you're happy with then Unifi is going to be the better choice.

If you can't run cables and want an integrated router with wireless mesh then Google might do it for you.

They're not really comparable though. Different product categories.

      • +1

You can build mesh with Unifi.

I'd go ubiquiti, never been a fan of mesh WiFi.

      Ubiquity.

$370.45 Delivered from this eBay store with PICK5 code but only 2 left.

Otherwise $379.95 C&C or + $9 Postage from Bing Lee eBay store with PICK5 code. I'll update the deal to that shortly.

  • This price isn't worth it, Officeworks was selling the 3pack for 349 a few weeks ago, just wait a bit if you're not in a rush

I got it new for $299 from a cash lender shop over eBay but anyway, this google Wifi does seem to use a lot of data even not using it. I’m trying to figure out why it does that.

    • +2

Perhaps submitting sensitive data to their “secured server” to “keep it safe” and “not accessible to anyone”

these are great, my house is long and they cover everything. so much easier than the extender/router i was using before.

sarasani if you place tin foil around the google wifi google cant see anything you do.

    • Gold foil works best. 100% success rate

      • I think this is Ok - if people don't trust manufacturer (build quality, privacy, whatever…) they don't buy products. I think that's how market works.
