Valid in MEL too - I’d say it’s location targeted?

    • Tag removed

      • Apologies Ninja - it’s a Melb Airport retail offer - duty free isn’t there!

        Might be worth 2 posts…

  • Dumb question: you can still buy in duty free (and pay GST) but don’t have to be travelling overseas? Last I remembered, Melbourne domestic was only a short walk from Melbourne international … (Unless their duty free is airside)

Edit: the duty free shop in Melbourne doesn’t seem to be run by Heinemann? I think it’s Sydney only …

    • Sucks to be in Melbourne :(

  • Bugger, just came through the sydney store on sat. :(

  • Added to my card. Thanks OP, flying through Sydney soon so will make good use of this.

  • Offer specified that it is only for Mascot Airport, Sydney

  • Flying through SYD in 3 weeks, so this is perfect timing. Thanks OP!

  • I've always wondered why AmEx release these deals at ~4am AEST everytime. Any idea forumninja?

    • Probably Amex US controls all these offers and they work in the US time.

  • Awesome, expires shortly after my June trip!

  • Buy online and avoid Card fees.

    • i) says in store only ii) they don't surcharge for Amex I think (I can't remember; it was back in 2016 that I last purchased from Heinemann duty free)

1.5% surcharge will be added to all credit card transactions in-store.
Yes it may be risky online. Need someone to test it and see if they get rebate confirmation email :)

        • no surcharge for savings or cheque, 0.9 for mastercard, 1.4 for visa and 1.5 for all other cards (AMEX, Diners Club ect.)

        • @alphonts: You might be right, but when I searched I found http://www.heinemanndutyfree.com.au/sydney_en/faq/
"When shopping in-store a 1.5% surcharge will be added to all credit card and pre-paid currency card purchases."

        • @Peck: It changed when the new laws came in about charging surcharges.

        • @alphonts: oh I stand corrected. Thanks for information.

  • is this targeted? only because in my app it doesn't show this specific deal

    • Just register.

      • i know will do, left CC @ home lol, normally just use that card for online purchases but its linked via paypal haha

You're not OzBargaining hard enough if you don't know all your AmEx card numbers (primary and supplementary cards) off by heart, haha.

I just reported you to the mods.

        • @MathNerd: The Russians will have the number if you ever need it (They get them from the Chinese)!

          @MathNerd:

In Sydney make your purchases at departure for wider range of goods and pick up when travelling back to Sydney from the arrival terminal.

Don't need to carry them with you when travelling :)

    • Can I purchase during the departure to take overseas as well as organise another purchase to pick up from arrival when i come back? Say i want to take some alcohol overseas as well as get some when i arrive back in sydney. Can i organise all of that by making the purchases during the departure or is it only allowed to have a certain amount of purchase per boarding pass?

Also if i did organise my purchase to pick up on arrival from depatures before i leave, does that mean the payment is taken right then and there or is it i need to pay when i arrive back?

Not worthy as it charges credit card fee.

Are you telling me the surcharge would exceed $20..? You'd need to be buying something over $1333 for the surcharge to be $20…

If you buy a $500 item, the surcharge is $7.50. Are you telling me it's not worth spending $7.50 to save $20 (net saving $12.50) if it's something you were going to buy anyway?

You can probably even split your card payments up too (if you have multiple AMEX cards) so I'm not sure why you think this isn't worth it.

Coz I bought an iPhone. Tell me who has more than 1k cash in his wallet? A drug dealer?
Been to many other countries, seems Australia duty free is the only one charge credit card fee and u don’t have any other choice.

  • Add the cc fee - and they used to charge for bags as well

Will use in May upon return

  • Hmm, interesting.

I've just tried about 10x different AMEX Cards and I'm getting this error message:

    WE'RE SORRY
The Card number you have entered is not eligible for this offer.

    Try a different card.

    Did anyone else get this?

    • Me too. Just tried now

      • Ok, just tried it again and it's fine now.

        Must've been a temporary thing.
