  • Definitely a good price!

  • wow thats heaps good, only got one a fortnight ago too, =[

  • hi, can you please be so kind to post the receipt. i went to JB the other day, they can give me the lowest $1100

  • From their webstie:

    $1672 - Canon 60D 18MP Digital SLR, 18-55IS & 55-250IS kit
    $1797 - Canon 550D 18MP Digital SLR, 18-55IS & 55-250IS kit

Prior to christmas the 60D kit was $2098 and the 550D kit was $1396.

    • website price is just for the presentation. if you go to the store, they will lower it down for you… i had been hunting this since before xmas, but the lowest i can get is $1100 from JB Hifi… If someone is willing to scan and post the receipt of $950 from JB it will be much appreciated. thank you :)

    • How come the 550D is more expensive when the 60D sits between the 550D and the 7D?

  • Did you have to negotiate for that price? More details are needed.

    • I believe it is under negotiation, as i can only negotiate up to the lower of $1100 only for 60D… :S No one is willing to go down below $1100 as i had done my research on this unit in regards to the pricing… [well, i am referring to australian product with australian warranty, not the grey import with overseas warranty…]

  • yup had to negotiate with the sales rep. he asked whether i got a price already and i said i got a quote for $950 from a photography store. he went to check with the manager and came back with a yes. i should have said $850!! haha. i was surprised at how easy it was. maybe i was lucky being post christmas sales… not too sure.
i dont have a scanner so cant scan the receipt.

    • +5

Take a photo of it. You have a camera :)

Ask a friend to scan it. Surely you know someone with a multi-function printer.

      • how do i attach a pic on this site?

    • A receipt would help a lot more, though.

    • -3

take a photo of it with your phone

I dont have a scanner is such a weak excuse

      • +12

phone? take it with the 60D!

      • -2

why not just take it in the mirror

    • I'm after this camera too.
Which photography store did you get a quote from?
Why didn't you get it from there?
If JB won't sell for $950 anymore, maybe this photography store still will…

  • +4

In that case, this should not be listed in my opinion… unless it's a price JB are widely able to do, no one's going to be able to get this, especially without receipt or other proof for pricematch

  • I picked one up for $1025 last week from JB.

They said that was the lowest they would go as it was 15% below ticket price and "below cost".

How you got $950 just by saying you have a quote from somewhere else is beyond me.

    Lucky bugger

    • +1

hi, can you pls be so kind to upload the copy of ur receipt pls, just in case jb wont honor me for the 950 deal. thank you

      • I second this. $1025 is a good price. Please post your receipt?

        • Sorry no receipt available at the moment as my parents have taken it overseas to get the GST back.

It was just the $1207 ticketed price - 15% for the JB 6pm-midnight sale last week.

  • +12

here u go guys…. good luck getting the same deal!

    http://upload.ozbargain.com/2010/12/29/5099_img_0492.jpg

    • was it a display?

      • nope.. i had to wait while he got stock from the other store in the city. brand spanking new in the box.

    • As Ali G would say, Respect. That's a great price for Aust stock. It's only $50 more than the shipped price of a gray one from DWI.

  • Good deal. I was looking at getting the Nikon D7000 and found a lower price at an eastern states store. I asked the camera guy at JBHIFI if he could price match - he said yeah and then I told him the price - it was about $400 less than their advertised price. The guy then said that it has to be a store with an actual shopfront - I informed him that it was. I also told him that they had it in stock and to call the number to confirm. He said that he isn't ringing an eastern states store and that I need proof before he price matches. I told him again that he can get the proof if he calls them - he wouldn't.

The reason I didn't want to buy from the eastern states store was because it was near xmas and didn't think they would send it in time. Well I bit the bullet and ordered it from them and it arrived the next day! I was pretty shocked :)

I also had issues with HN doing a price match. These guys only do it if it is convenient for them.

mind to share ur purchase experience?

      • +1

store and receipt please?? i am looking for Nikon d7000 or d90..please??

  • +1

how much did you pay for Nikon D7000?? and which store or website from states??

    • I got the D7000 from ryda.com.au. The price was $1488.88. They were the cheapest who had stock. Great service. Its also aus stock. I could have gotten it for about $1350 (overseas) but if I had to pay tax, it would have been around the same price. I also wouldn't have gotten the aus warranty.

I also bought a 17-55 f2.8 from eglobal for $1385 delivered. The local camera house and HN wanted around $2100 for it. I'll be getting a mack 3 year warranty for it in the next few days.

Overall I am very happy with the D7000. Already have some great pics.

      • Just spoke to ryda, they would price match Digital Fun stuff (another authorised camera store) and would sell for $1479

        • That's pretty good. They also throw in a few free gifts. I got a Lowepro camera bag and a pack that had some cleaning things and a tiny tripod.

  • This is a great deal.

This one is also good if you aren't near a JB Hi-Fi.
    http://www.techrific.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=708…

Free Delivery and No CC Surcharge.

    • I've dealt with them before and had no problems but it seems these days they force you to add shipping insurance. In the case of the 60D it's $50.

  • is it grey import??

  • -6

waiting for digic V. will be big jump in video quality.

    • -6

neg due to jb weaseling out

      • this was always going to be a try your luck thing….. the key is that we now know a good price to aim at when negotiating, and a price that they may deliver.

        • yes but is there even one person who got it for 950 at jb since this post?

if there is, i will retract vote.

actually, since OZB guidelines state "5 or more in stock at this price" is required for post, maybe i should wait till 5 people confirm getting one at this price at JB?

  • +2

Please do yourself a favour and try to buy a good lens if you are getting an up-market camera like this one.

I have used a 18-55 (on an equivalent nikon) and you can easily easily see the difference in quality compared to a good lens. A lens will last decades and is an essential investment. Like saving a few hundred dollars on a cheap lcd screen and knowing it could have been much better and for many years.

If on a tight budget, a 550D with 18-55 will give you just as good shots. Cheap prices at shoppingsquare. Switching lenses is a real pain. Try the 24-105 f4 for more reach. Multiply by 1.6 for focal lengths. (Not such a wide angle lens.)

There might be some 50Ds around still for $750 ish and put diff into lens.

Canon EOS 60D Body Only Digital SLR Cameras 1 year warranty for Canon
    $861.00 AUD

looks as a better option for me.
please correct me if i am wrong.

    • It's a grey import. Some people prefer having a proper Canon Australia warranty. Also if you're going overseas you can claim GST back on the Australian model.

DWI is $914.92 with insured delivery (after $10 discount code). I only purchase grey imports when there is a considerable difference in price.

    • you're wrong that option sucks if your camera breaks down

  • +1

If anyone else can manage to get one of these at the same price please post here. Something tells me it won't be all that easy.

Ive been on the lookout for good prices for either a 550d, 60d or D7000 for a while now & this seems a little good to be true for local stock.

  • just bought a Nikon D90 with 18-105 lens with extended warranty from office works for 1334.00,

  • i've been looking to buy the Canon 550D 18MP with twin kit lenses as gift for the wife, it will be our first Digital SLR, i was going to buy it a jb hi but they jacked up their prices. I prefer to get one in australia with a canon local warranty but my budget is tight $1-1.2k so i might have no option and end up ordering it at DWI if i cant get at a reasonable price locally. the cheapest i could find was ted's for $1,199.95 for the single lenses kit and $1,399.95 for Canon EOS 550D + 18-55 IS & 55-250 IS Kit
    . http://www.tedsprofessional.com.au/canon-eos-550d/w1/i643377…
btw is the Canon EOS 60D a better and newer model then the 550D?
I will try DSE and see if they can price match or do a better deal today. Does anyone know of a cheaper australian shop?

    • depends on your needs. the 550D is a fine camera and smaller and better to take away overseas if you ask me. Both have a learning curve and it all comes down to whether you need a camera with those extra features. eg higher ISO etc.the 550D will suite your budget fine esp if you'r after a kit lens too. You can always upgrade your lens later once you've figured out the style of shooting you're into.

    • 60d def better. i use 5d

  • +1

Basically I went back to Enex100 JBhifi and tried bargaining with them. Initially the lowest they went down to was $1200 then I pulled the receipt and they were shocked. They fussed around for 10 to 15 mins checking the receipt and validating it. Once they confirmed it was correct, they said that it was well below cost and the sale was a boxing day special only. The lowest they were willing to accept was $1100.

I doubt anyone will be able to get $950 again. Anyone succeeding in getting a good price then please post your receipt.

    • -2

Sorry mate, but we only spoke for about five minutes; half a photocopied receipt usually isn't acceptable either. Just to clear up any ambiguity: we did do deals on Boxing Day, albeit not advertised. Plenty of customers walked away with crazy prices (including that 60D) but unfortunately it was one day only.

      • On the 24th Dec i went to JB Hifi Elizabeth St melbourne, they can give me $1100, and then i asked them if they had special deal on this 60D on boxing day, they told me.. nope… there wont be any special on SLR camera including the 60D

        • They're right: there was no blanket special/deals. Stores were welcome to make deals on stock they wanted to move, and lucky for this guy, he got a cheap 60D body out of it.

      • Really..I tried bargain on d7000 nikon with 18-105mm, the jb guywon't go below $2150 even when I said ted's camera selling the bundle for $1899…

  • they are lying for sure// just diff ppl. and boxing day jb only have sale on dvd and stuff not cameras…

there is a reason i dont vote for jb's deal now.

  • is this a good camera?? is $950 all I need to spend or will i need to buy a lens with a few hundred (surely it comes with a stock one??). been wanting to get into DSLR photography for a while now

    • +1

body only = no included lenses

yes you will need to buy lenses + sd cards etcetc

  • Hmm not sure then, those lenses are expensive. I would like to buy one for around 1k that includes a standard lens which I can upgrade later.

  • JB said the customer before me tried and the lowest they’ll go is $1207.

Interestingly they haven’t changed the ticket price on the 550D kit. It’s still $1396.

    • Had tried went in 2 JB store in melbourne, they will go down lowest for $1100, but i am still hunting the $950 or $1025 with australian warranty

  • Check out this deal… i know it says it ends on 23rd Dec but if you dont ask u dont receive.

    http://www.camerastore.com.au/Canon+EOS+550D+18+55+55+250mm+…

its also not a grey import. aussie stock as said on their FAQs

    http://www.camerastore.com.au/Knowledgebase-FAQ_5.htm

if you're after lenses or any other photography stuff check out this site. i bought a couple of lenses and bag etc from

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

cheaper than any prices locally and also comparable to ebay. Also if you call them, ask for a discount. the guy gave me $15 off just for asking… and the AUD is stronger than the USD atm too so it's a great time to buy.

  • Took the printed receipt into JB Paramatta - they had no stock.

The OP got lucky, it's not a bargain that anyone else will be entitled to.

  • +2

So JB refuses to do this price now. -vote!

  • -1

Maybe jb is after some free advertisement, give one person a cheap deal then get publicity, change the price to higherfor the rest of the world.at least they won't get picked for false advertisement

  • +1

$856 from shoppingsquare - comes with warranty, buy with a platinum card, get another years warranty - although their shipping is expensive.

I think it better to buy a 1000D or 500d or 550d body and to buy a good lens, especially if you are a beginner. After 2 years, if you want to improve then get a 70D, or a 5D3. The lens is more important than the body.

    http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_64570_Canon_EOS_60D_Body_…

  • whats the difference from those being sold here?

    http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/search.php?q=Canon+EOS+550D…

  • Yeah they (sometimes vastly) different prices for the same item. I would think they are all grey and i would be happy to buy the cheapest one and presume shoppingsquare would honour their inhouse warranty.

eg the 50D is showing as $1005 and also $776.95. The latter price was the last price they had it for before they sold out. Maybe they have a couple of prices and hope people buy the more expensive one. Like some of the opportunistic prices that come up when you google things on say shopbot.

  • Great price…$49 less than I bought about 10 days ago….I got it from JB (Doncaster shop - Melbourne) by $999.

Also I got the IS Lens 18-200 by $680.

    • +1

is it 60d? can you post up the receipt pleease…

      • Yes mate it's Canon 60D.. but can anyone advise me how to attach the image file?

      • +1

mate, because I just registered on this site, can't post any attachment.

Gimme your email address I can send the file directly to you.

  • really good bargain, samiliar with the DWI price in Hongkong, but additional 1 year Australia Wide warranty

  • Harvey Norman have the 500D twin lense kit at $995 at the moment if that helps anyone. I have used my Dads and to my untrained eye it seems to take great photos.

  • i got a 550d today from dse with twin lense kit for $1379. they will beat any australian retail store by 10% of the difference so i got them to beat teds $1399 deal. they now offer a garrantee price beat for 14 days plus you have 2 weeks to return it if you arent happy. So im now searching for even a cheaper bricks and motar store downunder for them to beat it so can can get more cash back. btw theres a canon $500 cash competition on too every 30mins so if i win that ill be really happy.

  • I bought a 550d today from JB with twin lens kit and a 4gb memory card for $1170. Happy to post a receipt if you like. Sales rep accidently quoted me the price on the single lens kit and then honoured the first price offered.
Otherwise, Costco are offering the same deal as I got for $1359.

    • yes please do post or email me a receipt so i can go back to dse and they will beat it by 10 percent on the difference i paid.

    • Hi, please post or email me a copy of your receipt… much appreciated!

  • Harvey norman have 1000D for $499

    is that a decent price?

    • See post today EOS 1000d with two lenses $596 @ office works

  • Just have to vent! Not sure if anyone else who read this post has tried but I brought the receipt from AF to the exact same store today (Doncaster Westfield) asking for a price match (I knew the chances of them matching it was slim but I thought it was worth a shot). The assistant there told me "this is not a real receipt and it has been digitally editted/enhanced" speechless face —-> (O_O) followed by "BWAHAHAHA!" I thought a simple "no we won't match that" would have sufficed…wouldn't you?

Been shopping around for this camera for a while now and so I'm use to all the "we can't beat that price" but THAT up there has to be the most ridiculous one I've heard from JB so far.

For the 2 cents its worth, if anyone is still interested in the camera, the cheapest I have found the standard 18-55 single lens kit is around $1300 followed by $1100 for body only. Not as great as the bargain here but might be worth something to someone.

    • tiny88, who do you speak with at doncaster jb? male or female? the receipt which i uploaded [doncaster one] is given by the member nick "AF" above… he mentioned to me to look for Stephanie in the store… but, seems like the receipt looks so real… i am thinking of buying 60D very soon, just waiting for my payment date…

  • Hi gandhi

I asked to speak direct to the manager (@ JB Donny) but i guess he/she wasn't in the store so they directed me to a staff in the Cameras department. It was a chick and I could tell by the look on her face that there was no way she was going to match it (maybe its just my bad luck?) but I was annoyed at her ridiculous excuse. I didn't analyse the receipt from AF but I believe its genuine and that JB was purely trying to weasel themselves out of their so called "price match policy".

I ended up purchasing my kit today from one of the stores on elizabeth street strip in the city. I wish I could have gotten it cheaper but I gave up on the hunt and gave in at $1250 for the 18-55 single lens kit. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, consider grey imports. The cheapeast I could find was about $200 less than what I paid for but my Australian manafactured warranty kind of meant more to me than $200 so I just bought it local but if you don't mind the fuss of international warranty, I'd suggest you buy from a well reputed grey importer.

Hope that helps you out with purchasing your 60D. Good luck!

P.s took some sample photos today…im really happy with the camera. Its great! =)

    • tiny88, thanks for your advise. I understand that DWI grey imports currently sell the cheapest 60D, but i dont want to take a risk with the overseas warranty for the body [same like you, would prefer australian warranty] I am thinking of getting it price match with another JB store, if no luck, then i might give it a go on $1100 body only.

I had bought my lenses from grey import DWI, and it is on the way to me now :) guess i will receive the lens before i own the body. Might did some daily trips with other photographer friends after i get used to the 60D :)

      • I was going to do just that but I read a couple of reviews saying that the 18-55 is not a bad lens for a beginner and for $150 more (assuming $1100 is the best price I can get for the body only) + some extras…I thought it was okay.

Might consider DWI at a later stage when i want to upgrade my lens though. Happy shooting =)

        • tiny88, yes you are right, 18-55 is not a bad lens for a beginner. it is totally reasonable and understandable, and i am agree with you. i am also a beginner… but, unfortunately, based on my research at whirlpool.net.au and some goggling, a lot of people are talking about tamron 17-50mm/f2.8 lens and i ended up getting it [even i know, some site stating that this lens would have a little bit problem to canon model… lol…]

happy shooting to you too :)

        • Just an FYI, some models of Sigma and Tamron lenses are very very sharp, and considering the price difference to a genuine Canon can be a bargain. But the quality control on the glass isn't as good as the Canon, therefore there is no guarantee that the Sigma (or Tamron or other) will be a sharp one.

Just what I have read mostly on dpreview.

Have fun with the new cameras guys.

  • Hi guys, I have this brand new CANON EOS 60D for sale…. wondering if anyone might be interested.
