Virgin Big Cap $29/Mnt for $450 Value Plus Free Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

110
greengrass

I know Optus has such deal but Virgin is beating this with $450 value.
I have spoken to the customer service staff on the phone and verified that the $450 value can be used on overseas calls, unlike Optus.

I was about to put in an order but decided to check how Virgin network is. I am with Optus and 3 and must admit I am giving up on 3 when the contract expires.

Virgin is on Optus, same as many others, so shouldn't be any difference to your Optus experience.

Been on virgin for 2 years now and have had no issues with coverage and such.

go to Tasmania and see if you can use your mobile there

      • OK, those who are planning on going to Tasmania, don't get Virgin.

The other 99.99% of us can go right ahead and sign up with Virgin. :)

        • I was in tassie earlier this year and those on 3 were getting roaming only whereas on Virgin i was getting 3G no worries.

      • I didn't recall Virgin's reception being that bad when I was down at Tassie a few years ago. Of course, I was within a half day's driving distance of Hobart and Launceston all the time. I guess if I venture to the western coast, it could be a different story.

  • virgin are yet another carrier who has shifted their customer service offshore. Service is non-existant if something goes wrong.

    • Agree their phone service is atrocious, but if you do have a problem get on the whirlpool forums there is a Virgin rep on there who sorted out my account issues after weeks of going in circles with phone support.

  • can you change plans to this one if your on the $29 cap or does it have to be a new connection?

    • I guess once you are tied to one, you are committing yourself till the end of contract. Some provider allow you to upgrade for free but without a new handset.

      • I believe you can only change if the $ value you pay does not decrease. Never hurts to call and ask.

    • No, Virgin won't let you change the plans.
I'm with Virgin, called up to change Roll over cap 29 to big cap 29 but not allow. The said only allow when your contract end.

      • strange, I've changed plans while still in contract before. Just earlier this year, actually.

  • Switched from 3 to Virgin. Missed being able to control usage from My3. Keep running over Virgin usage cap, because they kinda made it more difficult to check when compared to 3. Will probably switch back to 3….

    • what phone are you using?coz android got the app for virgin usage but then,it will not update immediately(like My3, i think). i switched to Vodafone from Virginmobile, but it seems Vodafone is not the same as My3,which you would expect it would be after they merged..

      • Currently using Nokia E63 Symbian with Virgin. Don't have an android phone yet, was eyeing this X10 as well. Could you tell me which android app to use with Virgin? Does it pull usage data for free over the Virgin network (like My3 with 3's network), or only free over Wifi?

Even the antique NEC handset (circa 2002) with 3 worked flawlessly with My3 for checking usage. Talked to a Voda salesdude who also was with 3 and he admitted Voda doesn't have the equivalent to My3. It's old tech, and I suspect the carriers, deliberately don't want users to be able to control usage on almost real-time basis.

    • me 2. i use consume(iphone app) to check usage, so it is not a problem for me.
virgin has better coverage than 3 but still not happy, probably will switch to telstra………

  • I'm really considering the SE X10i, my contract runs out in 10 days with virgin. Is this the phone to get or are there better android ones out there??

    • galaxy oe desire HD are the best

    • I would advise against getting SE as the Service centre is hopeless and their authorised repairer, Fonebiz is just as bad. I had my C905 repaired under warranty and apparently, they did not seal the phone back properly. A few months later, the camera stopped working and I brought it back to them. They discovered that it is due to moisture damage and refused repair. Instead I had to pay approx $50 for service charge. I tried to reasoned with them as it was moisture damaged, not water damaged which meant the phone was not dropped into water. They refused to discussed further and referred me to SE. I wrote a few emails to SE but all I got was the standard reply that they are looking into it. It has now been more than 6 months and there is still no reply even after a few follow up emails. All I can say is that I would never buy another SE phone.

      • I had a problem with SE service centre in Australia. I was frustrated with them when they told me they don't support APAC languange in Australia and hence do not allow me to upgrade me to APAC firmware.
I had to go to a non-SE-registered service centre to get that done. But for some reasons, I am with SE for 5 different models of phone.
Now with Andriod, I have not decided whether to get SE X10 (better phone plan), Samsung Galaxy (better review) or HTC Desire (Had bad experience with HTC windows version).

      • snap….
had a SE phone, with about a week left of warranty when the phone stopped charging the battery, (not a battery issue, as tried another battery). Sent to fonebiz, who had it for over a week and supposedly fixed it, tested, upgraded firmware, (which was bullcrap, it was up to date).
Phone came back, battery ran out of the 1st charge, (2 days), then wouldn't recharge again. Sent back to fonebiz, who said moisture damaged, out of warranty, would not repair.
        Sony not interested.

Would not buy a SE phone again, simply because fonebiz is their repairer and would not recommend fonebiz to anyone.

        • I had similar battery issue and got a new SE just to transfer my data across before the battery dies.
What I found out later it was not battery or charger issues but the connector. It was clogged up with dirt. Cleaning that out and charging works alright.

        • nope….tried that, I had two of the same phones, so able to swap batteries, chargers, etc.
          One phone still working fine.

  • How does the X10 compares with Galaxy or HTC Legend?
