id recommend non telstra customers to jump on this deal.

    It's $59/month with 15gb and unltd calls/sms.
You'll receive a further $10 off and 5gb extra by talking to live chat.
Works out to be $1176 over the course of the contract; 24 months.
it also includes google home mini and aiaiai headphones

    • +2

oh didnt see the $10 off deal, might have to LC.

and for those wondering if Telstra is worth it.
Friday night, I just did a speed test
Telstra 4g -> Optus DC in Burwood (Melb) 286Mbps down, 38Mbps up.
      NBN 81Mbps down & 40 Mps up

      it's soooo quick!

        • +1

          Cool story.

        • I get 1Mbps most evenings on NBN. Do you live in a very quiet area or something.

        • +1

someone's been on a Friday night angry juice bender.

i was just saying how quick it can be. and used my (HFC) NBN as a comparison (which in peak time I also think is quite quick).

    • So did u get $10 off after purchase or before. Do you need to purchase online for the $10 off.

      • +1

        After. Went in store

    • You'll receive a further $10 off by talking to live chat.

I got the 5GB bonus but how did you manage to get them to take $10 off a plan that's already discounted?

      • +1

it's a port in discount. keep trying and you'll eventually get it

    • Has anyone been able to get the $10/month discount recently?

I was advised that that promotion ended on the 29th of March, I continued to press for it but the rep didn't relent. I mentioned that other customers have been receiving the deal more recently than that date, no budging.

I did manage to get the 5Gb/month, as a concession.

      • Yep I got it done yesterday on live chat. Definitely just a matter of patience!

    • I had no such luck getting $10 off via live chat, asked for a "student discount" and was only offered 3gb extra.

      • how many times did you try?

    • do you know if the telstra ones are unlocked?

  • 24 months $59 Telstra offer:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363865

This offer works out to be $44.54/month over 24 months.
So if you go with Telstra for less than $15/month more you get unlimited calls, SMS and 15GB data.

    • $10 discount and 5gb added also by speaking to chat reps.

      • What do you even say? Simply ask for it?

        • yes. keep trying tho. it's telstra.

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

Apparently the $10/month discount is only for port-in customers

        • @WaywardOne: yeah that's true. tho i think you could port out and port in?

        • @WaywardOne: So you're saying the plan can be $49 a month?

        • +1

          @WaywardOne:

I ported in but got told $59 is the best possible offer. They said it is not possible to apply a further discount on the friends and family offer.

They did apply the free extra 5gb though.

        • @arcticmonkey: keep trying

      • Thanks, didn't know about this. talked to Najuki and it was done.

    • I just got off of live chat. They said no 15 times before they gave me the 10 off on one of my two lines. Plus 5gb on both. Both ported in

    • So get $59 offer first, THEN go talk to live chat?

      • yes

i'd recommend oneplus 5/5t with better spec and almost half price if you don't mind importing. btw oneplus 6 is coming this month.

    • +9

Please don't compare pixel n OnePlus. I used both and pixel is far better

      • Based on what criteria? Thanks for letting me know.

I'll get the pixel xl when it hits $600

        • OnePlus - phone by China
          Pixel - phone by Google.

Which one do you think is going to receive more updates?

I could go on and talk about many different things such as battery life, camera etc. but I'm sure you know that the Pixel is better.

        • It won’t hit $600 new, Aussie stock anytime soon.

        • I bought Pixel XL 32gb demo model with screen burn for $250 when eBay had 10% off and will change screen and battery which will cost about $120. It will be my daily driver for the next 2 years.

I had Nexus 6P and I loved it, used S7e for a year and after tried the Pixel XL and I'm switching back to Google. Tried Pixel 2 XL at JB Hifi and I'm more than happy with the first gen.

        • +1

@datafellows: try caling google and filing a warranty claim? all you need is the imei

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

LOL that would be something :D

        • +1

@datafellows: worked for me. Grabbed a faulty pixel and sent it off.

        • @datafellows:

That is a deal, but this is the Pixel 2, keep in mind!

        • @Unbreakable:

Yeah, but I was referring to Mr billions comment, unless he meant Pixel 2 XL.

I didn't like the Pixel 2 XL when I had a quick fiddle at JB Hifi, previous gen feels much better. I have the same issue with S8+, hate it so much compared to S7e :P

Only thing I like about Pixel 2 XL is the front facing speakers, I watch a lot of YouTube with my mobiles.

      • Does the one plus have a 3.5mm jack?
Or is it not as courageous as the pixel?

    • No

    • Just don't every look at the code. Also no native treble support is a killer. And the terrible camera. And no water proof. And no stereo speakers. Basically the same phone lol.

  • +1

I got the 128GB model at JB Hi-fi for $1149 with the Google Home Mini and AiAiAi earphones. Not sure if this comes with the Google Home but JB should match that price if you ask.

  • +2

I'm waiting for the new Huawei 3 x Camera lens phone to be available

  • +1

Just go on gumtree and buy one of the many that are being sold from the Telstra deal. Often can get for $900

    • What if they report it stolen afterwards? Be aware, got caught in this scam for iPhone..IMEI got blocked as the seller reported it stolen.

      • You'd be wise enough to only buy one with receipt

        • write a contract?
i don't see how a receipt will help

        • Receipt wouldn’t help at all and most of them do not provide invoice as they say very nicely it was a gift 😐

        • +1

          @MyLoginName:

I bought mine from ebay second hand and I've seen a lot with receipts available.

If it was from a Telstra contract EPOW online is available but you can always request the contract page where it has the IMEI.

        • It presents a barrier but I doubt that determined crims wouldn't be able to fake reciepts.

      • +4

Having bought and sold many phones on gumtree, just use common sense and you'll be right

  • +1

Anyone interested in trading one for a Note8 PM me

    • You are seeking a note 8?

      • No, I have a note 8 I'd be keen to swap for a pixel xl

        • Ah cool. I'm in the process of selling my note 8 too. Good luck!

    • I was torn deciding between Pixel 2 XL and Note 8 a few months ago, reading this feel like I made a better decision going with Pixel 2 XL.

  • Yeah I just ported over and just got off live chat asked for the extra 5gb offered it to me straight away and first she said she couldn't do the $10 off but asked her again and it was all good got it sorted.

    • They saying No to me for $10 and 5GB !!!

      • +1

I just told them my friend got it so I should get it also 😁 you just have to keep on them bro keep trying, did you tell them you ported over?

    • Any rep details or reference number as they saying there is no such options to reduce further and add more data??

    • Did you speak to live chat after you already signed up for the contract? Or did you do it while you were negotiating the contract?

I'm on live chat atm trying to negotiate the contract to include the $10 discount straight up and they keep saying its not possible >:(

      • Yes same m on Live chat too and even their supervisor saying No they can’t !!! :(

        • Keep trying new chats until you get a rep who will do the deal for you. I was successful after a few attempts.

  • -2

Reps name is Yaseen but there could be 10 of them working there with the same name haha

  • Waiting for AussieDaddy's comment, which will no doubt gather 20+ down votes LOL.

  • $1249 for the 128GB at JB.

Note that there are screen issues with this phone (flashing when locking/unlocking).

I had it on my 1st handset. Spoke to Google who would not do advanced replacement due to being purchased from JB.
JB swapped it over on the spot though.

  • I got it for $49 a month with an extra 5GB. But this was due to being stuffed around by Telstra and the case manager giving this to me. Still the phone works out to be $456. Bargain.

  • +1

    No headphone jack :(

  • Hello OZb,
Any ideas, which smartwatch is compatlble with the Oreo update.
I have moto 360 but hardly working (watch issues I believe as 1st gen)
Recently bought Amazefit face from gearbest, but would not connect with oogle Pixel 2 Xl.
It worked fine with the app downloaded on Samsung s6 edge.
Looking to buy a compatible smartwatch with Oreo, any recommendations? Looking to spend around $300.

  • Just bought today, got the 5GB first try and the $10 off on the second. good deal. thanks

  • +1

I've now owned two google phones (Nexus 5 and a Pixel XL).

I would thoroughly recommend you buy google phones from the play store.

If it breaks - they send you an advanced replacement - but only if you bought it DIRECT from them.

If you buy it through JB it hangs around with them, gets shipped to their supplier (telstra for the original pixel), who then assess it and ship it back to google. Be prepared to wait 3-4 weeks minimum, especially if the problem is not drop dead obvious like "it won't turn on"

You CAN ask google to act as the warranty agent - but no advanced replacement, prepared to be without your phone for at least a week and a half if not more.

Something to weight up against the discount.

    • Google allowed advance replacement for one not bought for them. You have to pay a "bond" though first

      • Hi Tarquin

Could you explain how you managed that? No amount of discussion on 3 returns I've been part of did they offer any kind of option to fast track the return.

        • they offered it . i didnt ask for it

    • Going to have to strongly agree with this comment.

I had 2 Nexus 5's at the end, both of them had the stuck power on button, but i got a full year out of both,so 2 years of use for $0, then got a full refund, on a phone that wasn't even worth 200 dollars at the end. All because i brought from google directly.

Keep in mind that the issue was fixed quite easily, after i put a case on, and hit on the side, the button unstuck.

      • did you keep the phone?

        • No ended up returning both!

  • This is my first flagship phone apart from when I first bought a Samsung galaxy S3.

I'm really impressed by the battery life, screen and camera. Have the Telstra 4g network and this phone is the bomb. Apparently Telstra have some paid phone swap thing that you can do in the future, so I might have a chance to upgrade to another phone later on for about 200. Bit miffed that I didn't ask for the extra 5gb.. argh.

I don't miss the lost headphone jack as I rarely listen to music, it's really just YouTube and browsing.

    • Jump onto the online chat, took 5 minutes.

      • Is it too late now I'm at my second month into the contract???

        • I don't think so, the offer is current until the end of the month.

  • +5

I got this on the Telstra $59 deal. Sold the phone for $950 which brings my monthly plan cost down to $19 a month ($950 / 24 = $40). Spoke to Telstra on online chat and got the bonus 5gb and $10 discount a month meaning I get 20gb on Telstra for $9 a month. Factor in the free 6 months Apple Music which I was previously paying for and it’s even cheaper - around $5 a month.

    • You won the ozbargain award. Well done

    • haha did the same thing. kogan who?

    • Nice work but a few too many variables there.

  • Can anyone confirm they were able to get the deal before porting over? Or was it after port in? Trying for a few hours now and no luck lol.

    • send me ya email and ill send u a transcript

      • +1

Hi, I managed to get the deal via live chat. Will update everyone on how it goes tomorrow when I head into one of their store. Thanks!

        • jb or telstra?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: Planning to head into Telstra and will show them transcript. If it doesn't work out, I'll just sign up there anyways and will call/live chat afterwards as I have proof of conversation.

        • @anthoneeyz: if you to jb you get a google home mini and headphones. some who went to telstra say they didnt get those

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: hmm … thanks for the heads up. I'll have to check both out if that happens.

  • For those who are still trying to get the deal, here's a step by step of what I did.
    1. Go to Telstra online Chat. Choose Mobile on a plan > Bill, Plan or add-ons (do not choose Buy Online - I got rejected 1221/1221 times)
    2. An automated bot will initiate the chat, say 'I want a mobile plan' or something along those lines. Proceed with the prompts and he'll connect you to an operator.
    3. State to the operator that you would like to connect to the $59/month Google Pixel 2 XL plan. They'll say they have it.
    4. Mention that you'll be porting over and are aware of the $10/month port in discount. (3/3 times I tried they said ok)
    5. Mention that you are also aware of the 5gb/month data bonus. (3/3 times I tried they said ok)
    6. Now you'll be prompted to either go into a Telstra store (or JBHIFI, worked for me) or proceed with their online sales team.
-If you go instore, they'll most likely deny you of the extras because they can't do it. So sign up first and get upgraded once you have ported
ported over via online chat team, but make sure you have a transcript of the online consultant saying yes to both bonuses prior to signing up.
-I personally didn't go through with their sales team but it should be a straight forward process (I think).
    7. Repeat steps 1-5 if you're getting rejected.

Please note that I am not responsible for anything … do this at your own risk.
