1200W Upright Vacuum $89 from Kmart (Nationwide)

1060

Remember this vacuum cleaner from Kmart that everyone went crazy for and it was sold out last year, well its back again

http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/home/interiors/the-89-vacuu…

I was browsing my local Kmart here in sydney and was stumped to find a shelf full of them. I thought maybe it was my store but I checked online at Kmart for all capital cities and there were stores that had stock of them (some having limited stock already).

Whilst its still the same price $89, I find this great value. I actually bought that Dyson vacuum cleaner that was on sale a couple of weeks ago for $249 but thought i'd try this one. Tried it at the new (rental) apartment and initial use did a pretty good job so might sell my dyson later lol

Can members who comment that they got one also do a small review please?

  • Just had my online order cancelled and refunded.

  • Looks just like what I need to vacuum under the couch, said no one ever…

    • Move the couch, problem solved.

  • Vax Silentium is better for the money, even though it's more expensive. You can buy them at Bunnings, bags are generic and cheap (and bagged is cleaner) and the vacuum is nice and quiet with adjustable power.

  • highly doubt this is a sealed unit. Great if you enjoy vacuuming and then watch the dust go back in the air. Even Dyson vacuums aren't completely sealed and leak dirty air despite people who have no clue raving about them. Search YouTube for vacuum particle tests

    • V8 has a HEPA filter but I generally agree

      • yes you are right. HEPA filter has made a big improvement but due to the flimsy plastic used, there will always be gaps and dust particles will escape.

  • I happened to be at K-mart today and saw these being picked up by lots of people. I'll be interested to see how these fare in three years' time. Report back please!

      Come back in 3 years?

      • RemindMe! 3 years

  • Was just in Kmart Merrylands, they have alot of them in stock

Good suckers but they'll blow your ear drums!

  • Recently had to replace one of these under warranty. When I got the new replacement unit I found that they have redesigned some of the unit, making it easier to use and less prone to blockages (but my kids can still find a way to do that :) ) This is a fantastic vacuum. We cannot use it at full power as it starts to lift our carpet off the floor :)

    • biggest vacuum myths people get confused about. Suction alone means jack all. This is why you often see home shopping shows demonstrate vacuums lifting ten pin bowling ball to fool people. People are then easily convinced and end up buying one thinking if it can lift a bowling ball, it will suck up every dirt particle in their homes. couldn't be further from the truth. You need a combination of suction and agitation to effectively suck up all dirt buried deep down.

      • yeah I've found the brush head on my miele to really help with this.

      • It has a rotating brush at the front that agitates the carpet and gets a lot of stuff out. But the one I had had an inferior design to the latest model

    • We cannot use it at full power as it starts to lift our carpet off the floor :)

You can adjust the power of suction on this??

      • Yes there is a knob at the front that adjusts height from floor. That usually adjusts the suction level for me

        • But that wouldn't adjust the suction from the hose right? Or would it too?

        • @CVonC: No true. But I was talking about general use. Still a great vacuum for the price :)

I was at Southport Kmart and they had about 15 in stock. I was looking for a new vacuum cleaner and went with 2200w Cyclonic bagless unit instead of the 1200w upright as it was cheaper with more power.

Being waiting for the vacuum cleaner since last Christmas and it is finally available. I rushed to the local Kmart store (Top Ryde) this morning and there was plenty in stock. I have tested it for the first round, and the results were quite amazing. It is powerful and extremely good with picking up hairs and cat hairs from the carpet that my Dyson vacuum cleaner failed to do all the time.

The downside is that it comes with such powerful suction which you will need to give it a big push along the carpet, but not so much an issue on the floorboards. I also found the power cord is always in the way which could be annoying. Overall, for $89, a satisfied customer.

Got one today. Queanbeyan store still had 9 left after my purchase. A bit hard to maneuver, but definitely did a decent job getting dirt and food out of our rugs (that our infant had deposited there).

  • Got one to try it out so here are my impressions:
The first thing you notice when turning it on is how loud it is; I ended up wearing headphones when vacuuming because it was just that loud.
The second thing you notice is how unwieldly it is; compare to the lightweight stick and head found on our previous canister vacuum, it was incredibly heavy, bulky and hard to maneuver when vacuuming. Because you have have to move the entire weight of the vacuum everytime you move, the momentum carries across the wheels and makes it more difficult and to clean delicate spaces and increases the duration of the entire vacuum. Also, because of the motorized head, it is impossible to lift the head of the vacuum to quickly re-position the vacuum without it making an awful grinding noise.

The deal breaker however, lies in the cleaning quality. Since we have tiled floors, the manual instructed us to set the height of the head to "hardwood floors" so that the motorised head does not come in contact with the floor risking scratches. After running the vacuum across a small patch to test, I ran my finger across the surface of the tiles to find a fine layer of residual dust on the surface of the tiles. But because we had tiles I thought it was ok to set the height of the head to "low" which allowed the motorised head to scrub the floor. This completely removed the fine dust that was present before and left the tiles very clean. However, there were also moderate scratches near the edge of the tile between the tile, grout and another tile.

Maybe it's that our tiles have some sort of glazing on them but either way I found the vacuum to be unsuitable for our household.

Another nitpicky thing: This was probably particular to our unit but the handle wasn't properly aligned and faced slightly left which became annoying during use.

    • Well, if its powerful enough to take the glazing and grout out of your tiles, it must be powerful enough!

I wonder if those who proclaim it to be super duper and getting a whole bunch of crap out of their carpets was simply ripping out their carpets instead?

Wanted one last time but it sold out in no tome. Bought one just then from Broadway (NSW). About 4 left there. Goodluck!

Managed to get one at Browns Plains. When I ordered it online it said "selling fast" at that store. What's up with the $3 click & collect fee though. I bet I could call the store and ask them to put one aside and not have to pay a $3 fee.

Blown away by the amount of dirt it pulled out of our thin crappy rental carpet. Bit embarrassing really.

  • Conditions: cable too short, and always on my way when I vacuum the floor,

  • Hi got one for mum at the local store as postage was over 20 bucks. It is quite large but she always moans over the old upright she had years ago. Just told her it would be very loud. So should be good to go. They had this one in an open box and one on display.

  • I ordered it online early morning yesterday. But they cancelled my order and refund last night without notice. Today, I went Merrylands Kmart and got one. 5 left there, but I don't know they have more in the stock room.

    • yeah Casula NSW is all goneski now, so lucky you managed to get one still :)

  • I got caught up in the hype train of this post and got myself one. 5min in …Its way too loud…. my daughter (2yrs) ran away frightened by the noise. Returned it the next day. Beware you will need industrial sound dampening headgear to do you vacuuming…

My hunt for a good vacuum continues

    • i must admit it is a bit loud but it still does a pretty good job with the clean

    • get a Miele. you will find that it's whisper quiet compared to Dyson or this.

  • there are 3 left in Parramatta (NSW-2150) KMart, as of 12 noon this afternoon

  • Plenty (16) at Rowville, 3178

    • They get restocked.

How is this thread not closed lol?

      • Yeah lol
