This is a great product considering the brand means you can be sure you are actually getting 8000mah.

Make sure you guys use it with the $5 voucher that got negged into oblivion :)

    • Make sure you guys use it with the $5 voucher that got negged into oblivion :)

should probably link to it…….as it's in oblivion
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/37156

just read the original post….don't bother with any of the crap underneath. Will bring the price down to $62.90 delivered

COTD false advertising. Its 8000mAh at 3.7V (cell voltage) not 5V (output voltage). The effective energy storage of this item is 20Wh, not 40Wh as COTD claimed. There is significant power loss in the voltage conversion. plus COTD are fabricating the "@5v" spec when energizer never mentioned such. Subtle and Shameful act by cotd.

For comparison, a 3cell laptop battery is typically 30Wh. The cost of the cells is around 10$. Energizer added a shell and some voltage conversion electronics, makes the manufacturing cost somewhere around $15.

Also, just googling the model, showed the american equiv of cotd having sold it for 40usd. Also showed reviews saying "realistically only 1.5-2hrs extra on a netbook", confirming my estimate of 20Wh actually energy storage.

If you dont mind all these, and just need something mediocre to power your gadgets when you couldn't reach a charger, sure. I'm going to bet this to be one of those "digital photo album" moments in gadget history.

And to clarify, neg due to falsely overadvertising the capacity by 100%. If cotd changed from 5V to 3.7V, i'll remove neg.

      edited to add points.

      • +1

COTD didn't post this, and negging it doesn't tell COTD anything, so I'm not sure of the point?

And do other devices like this suffer from the same problem?

        Weird reason to neg…

        • fair enough. i'll remove the neg then. though i cant edit my comment.

      • bit late to the party -edited-

      • +1

Pretty agressive neg there. As a poster below has said the nearest price in Australia is around 160. Some points i would like to make:

-Are we getting down to the level where we are going to scrutinise a deal based on their manufacturing cost? How do we justify that? Can we say a book is just some printed words on a stack of paper that is bounded by cardboard, therefore not worth 29 bucks?

-American price is American price, it is bound to be different to prices here and I can't really see how that justifies a neg. If you want to compare, that's ok, how much would it cost you in time to bid for it in the US and have it shipped here?

Just worried that neg posts like these are discouraging future bargains from being posted. Maybe we should all just head to slickdeals since US prices are going to cheaper anyway.

        • +1

          Already removed neg.

I was just annoyed that a mediocre item is being sold at a mediocre price, but considered a bargain because other places are selling it at worse than mediocre price. The RRP on that item is equivalent to white van speaker RRP.

It was made worse by that COTD is falsely advertising the item to be less mediocre. And that the mistake they made is likely intentional.

        • +1

"- Can we say a book is just some printed words on a stack of paper that is bounded by cardboard, therefore not worth 29 bucks?"

Obviously not, since books are selling information not toiletpaper? This posted item is a simple battery pack with a simple dc converter inside that any first year EE grad could design. i.e. the design is nothing special. if design is not special, then the manufacturing cost is the major cost. in this case, manufacturing cost is minimal.

"-American price is American price, it is bound to be different to prices here and I can’t really see how that justifies a neg."

I didn't neg based on that. I thought i made that clear.

"Just worried that neg posts like these are discouraging future bargains from being posted."

Me too. I dont neg vote often, only when i have a legitimate reason that not all will agree with. Check my profile.

this + is almost just for having the balls to post something from COTD… good price next cheapest on shopbot is 159…

    • +1

+1 also for the preemptive apology in the heading! (not a green +, but a + none the less).

    • LOL Shopbot. I often find that site to be pretty ordinary at finding good prices.

      • +1

i find it just as good if not better than static ice, has a much wider range, although a bit hit and miss, but mostly hit…

  • I think I saw a smaller version of this being sold at Harvey Norman for $38 dollars.

The packaging was a bit mangled so wasn't entirely sure.

  • +4

But its COTD - so really, where is the MOB?? Maybe they dont believe that anyone would dare post a COTD deal so soon after they pack negged the other post. Caught them by surprise eh!!

    • +5

      where is the MOB??

      perhaps it's past bedtime….

      • +3

Sorry to let you all down, I was still sharpening my pitchfork.

    • MOB = Money Over Bitches

  • +3

this shows that if its a real bargain…then OZBARGAINERS LOVE it…and showed that those bagging wasnt bias!

  • samfisher5986: "Make sure you guys use it with the $5 voucher"
<— Can you give me the code of the $5 voucher. Thanks

  • yeah saw this on cotd before the new yr… and got the free postage for paying with paypal

was rather suprised it hasnt sold out yet

    • +1

So why did you not share that here? - Not critical but curious - was it because the fear of posting COTD deals? I hope not

      • I saw that no one else was buying it… thought maybe there was something that every one else knew that I didnt so I took the gamble and brought it

        • +1

          Huh!

  • I found it, it's the $100 free gift from COTD, but you can only use $5 each time. Bought 1 of this. Also, this product is eligible for Free tips
    http://www.energizerpowerpacks.com/au/products/xp8000/

Just dont know how much is the postage.

    • But you do need to pay shipping and postage costs - they say local shipping costs, but no idea what the actual cost is,. The company is US based and its not energizer, but licensed to use the energizer name for these power packs

    • +2

Postage is $9 if I remember correctly. Doesn't make the tips free but the fast turnaround time of 2 business days if you put it in late (one to pick, another for express post to get to you) and almost any tip available makes it a plus. The iPad adapter that comes in the package goes for $20 on its own and is not part of the free tips promo.

Energizer wanted to sell power packs but didn't want to make their own. So they got another company (Xpal) to rebrand some as Energizer for them. I have the XP18000 under the Xpal brand from the Us. Still cost $130 US pricing for the 18000mAh, so this COTD price for the 8000mAh is pretty good. Aussie price is crazy, I think the 18000 was going for $300++ at HN and the 8000 was $200

  • sold out :(

    • Thanks, edited title.

      • Can't use that link. It's for boxing day too so it would be expired.

  • +1

With the slow shipping times from COTD you should be comparing the prices to overseas items too.

    • I dont know why people complain about COTD's shipping time. I am in WA and my items usually get dispatched 3 - 4 days after the purchase and takes auspost another 4 - 5 days to get here.

      Seems reasonable to me.

    • +4

I did that before I posted this deal. $77-$100 + shipping in the US at the places I checked to compare prices prior to posting this. I checked places that are usually cheap Amazon, Newegg, bhphotovideo, Best Buy even though they don't ship here just to get an idea on prices. Good luck finding a cheaper one overseas that will ship here for a reasonable price.

      • +1

yep I checked eBay and around the net minimum would have been $100 and that's overseas with no warranty… here it was priced around $150+ I feel happy I got a good deal! and I can use it with any device not just a iphone or one style laptop, etc

  • +1

I am bored where did the mob go….

  • +1

I ordered one of these before Xmas from COTD, arrived today - it's the US Xpal version as the power pack has US plug and not Australia power plug. So need to buy a travel adaptor for it. Still cheaper than anywhere in Australia or USA!

Also while packaging says is pre-charged. Mine came flat when i hit the battery status check button

    • man thats REALLY dodgy, did they say anything about it having US plugs? I'd be hitting up paypal for the costs of the plug!!!

new it was too good… thats COTD for you!

      • Yeah would of been nice to have known on the web site, but still at a price cheaper than USA listed pricing, hard to beat. It comes with a heap of adaptors for different devices so out of the box support is pretty good.

        • +1

so it is universal voltage then? Lucky I buy enough OS stuff to have a good travel adapter but still, pretty damn annoying. Did you contact them and question it at all?

  • +1

Yeah universal 100-240v voltage power just the plug is different. Haven't bothered to contact COTD

  • +1

Anyone received theirs yet(or got their status past 'Processing')? I'm hoping it arrives before Thursday as I'm heading overseas and specifically bought it to use on the plane. Would be a big bummer if it didn't.

    • +1

Pretty slack I reckon, mine still says "processing" and the order was placed 2nd January. I will be (once again!) writing to their customer service, no doubt they will be giving their usual spiel of misplaced order etc.

      Edit:
This is what the order have to say when I logged in to check…

Processing can take up to 5 business days, and delivery can take up to 9 business days.
You will be notified of your courier and tracking number when your parcel is dispatched.
Please advise us if you have not received your parcel by the 22nd of Jan 2011.

Essentially it can take (almost) a month for an order to be fulfilled, even Dealextreme works faster than that on most counts!!!

    • same here, still stuck on "Processing". order date same as everyone else = Jan 2nd.

      • just shipped! have a tracking number too.

    • +1

Finally received my package of 2 of these on Friday arvo.

Included in the delivery satchel were 2x AU wall plug to figure 8 cables for the charger, so no problems being able to charge the battery. Also included was the standard US wall plug to figure 8 cables in the product boxes.

However, the PC007 iPad adapters were nowhere to be found. I've notified COTD about this and I'm really hoping they will honour the original deal that included the iPad adapters.

This is my first ever COTD experience and so far it hasn't been so great.

      • welcome to COTD.

      • Same problem here. Ordered one, no iPad adapter. My first COTD experience too.

      • Let us know what happens with the enquiry, i may have to check my package to see if its the same for me too..

        • I just received an email response— not happy:

The iPad adapter is actually the same adapter provided for the iPhone and iPod. Essentially, the adaptor works for all 3 Apple devices).

I'm incredibly sorry for the confusion caused. For your inconveniences I have placed a $5.00 store credit onto your Catch account.

  • Thats ridiculous, they clearly stated there was a BONUS ipad adapter! What a joke, COTD manage to screw up a semi-good deal once again!!

  • I sent an email too, see what their response is. I pointed out that I would not accept a pathetic store credit as a "goodwill gesture" as it was an advertised inclusion not a misinterpretation on our part.

  • Hmmmm….my response:
    Hi there,

    Thank you for your email.

I'm terribly sorry to hear about that!

Not to worry! I have manually organized for the missing component to be sent off immediately!

Please allow 3-5 business days for delivery.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused.

—Be interesting to see if I get the actual iPad adapter or just another ipod/iphone tip.

    • Emailed them too and got the same response.

  • I've sent an email too. I hope they send me the ipad adapter too.
I was curious about their free tip for life and registered for their free tips. Seem its isnt free since you have to pay for postage and handling.

For people who want to see what the adapter looks like check out the picture below - bloody hell its expensive (and not free!)

  • +1

    Just an update on this.

Seem I received a defective product. Out of the box, not only I didnt get the ipad adapter; there wasnt any charge on it as well - even though it says precharged and ready to use. Followed the instruction and did a charge for 8 hours and still have the same problem!

The XP8000 still doesnt seem to be holding a charge. Seem I got a lemon.

Lodged a return with COTD and now have to return it. :(

    • Mine didn't have any charge either, but was fine after the first 8 hour charge. Something that the little "USER'S MANUAL" doesn't state is that you must press the Check/ON button on the charger after connecting all the cables or it won't start charging.

The other problem with the "USER'S MANUAL" is that it doesn't say which devices the tips are compatible with, you have to cross-reference them with the http://tipfinder.xpalpower.com site.

      • I really have to proof read my posts…

What I meant to say is, you must press the Check/ON button on the charger after connecting all the cables to the device you want to charge (ie: iPhone) or it won’t start charging it.

  • COTD are saying that the iPad adapters were meant to be part of the package being sent out, but some people didn't receive them.

Looks like anyone who is missing this adapter will have to contact COTD asap, as they will not be sending them out to everyone.

    EDIT:

Just received my adapter in the mail. It is the PC007 part.

    EDIT 2:

Only received the one, although I bought 2 packs. Back to emailing COTD again.
