      • I ordered one because the HFC NBN is terrible at my place, has been down more than up for the last month so I wanted something that can failover to a 4g dongle if the primary WAN connection goes down. Apparently this can do it although we'll see if the T Mobile firmware allows it…or if I need to flash to Asus firmware to get that feature!

    • Will aimesh work on it after flash?

      • Yes, but only the initial couple of firmwares, the latest firmware has some protection in it against T-Mobile and renders AiMesh inoperable (but fine on Asus branded routers).

        • Source?

          • @BillyCool: Me, I have 3 of them in aimesh. It takes away the feature when you upgrade to the latest version. If you don't trust my word you can search google cache for small net builder's forum (they are now deleting threads regarding the t-mobile discussion).

    • Really happy with mine. Running stock and it blows the new Telstra smart modem I have (as well as the D-Link 2890AL) out of the water in terms of range and configurability.

    • Beware the dodgy crippling latest ASUS firmware. If you can avoid that they are great value.

Whirlpool has a detailed thread on how to set these up.

    • +1

what a steal. got mine for 120ish previous popular deal. really happy with it.

    • Merlin all the way

    • Can the ugly T-Mobile branding on the outside of the router be peeled off, or is it painted on?

      • +1

Painted, it'd be pretty difficult to remove.

      • Unless you want to flash it and sell it as a real RT-AC68U, otherwise, the logo is fine and does not affect its performance.

  • Guys wondering if i can get some help…

So the admin page still says AC-1900, but when i SSH in, it clearly says RT68U, read a lot of conflicting information.

As this stage should i upgrade to latest asus firmware? i've removed the T-mobile certs and stuff so should do any funky stuff…. Do i have to do DD-WRT then to stock ASUS firmware?

Or is this just a home page, and my router really us an RT68U and that's the just old admin page?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Yeah i didn't do the NVRAM clear properly, need to hold the button for full 20 seconds.
