Watching mine right now. Very nice tv, but worth that kinda dosh? I’d say no (and I paid a bit more), particularly as the 2018 models will be cheaper than the 2017. If you don’t need the sound bar the 2018 950 will be the one to get.

Currently you can’t buy better though (Sony A1 is close).

    • best tv model under 10k?

War and Peace coming. Agreed, and from memory I think we both opted for this unit about the same time last year. We were "upgrading" from a Pioneer KURO plasma (Which was no longer able to handle the newer free to air codecs used, but we still loved the picture quality at 1080P). And I still think that our old plasma had more brightness/ punch than this Master panel does. For us the biggest thing we notice is the colour range, but even then, it is not so much extra colour that it really justified the $5600 delivered that we paid back in September last year (At that time it was listed in HN Os Park as $8500, but selling for just under $6000 at Myer, so they beat that price after a haggle). This panel does howvere produce true blacks that are as good as the ones we had with the KURO.
Still love this MASTER TV, and we knew that down the track it would get cheaper (The old story of how long to wait before you upgrade your toys right?). Great TV, and the price is good, but I agree with wfdTamar about wether it is really worth even this kind of money (If you are already using a high end TV like a KURO plasma, then I think it is unlikely that you will be truly amazed at the difference in PQ for what you pay), we never use the soundbar, always playing through our theatre setup, but we thought that this panel look crisp with colour production compared to its cheaper 950 version (Specs show a small increase in brightness with the MASTER, but we though it looked better for colour).
We did lots of side by side comparing with other panels,. and this MASTER looked the best in our opinion. But all OLEDS can be subject to vertical banding (So check your delivered panel with a 5% and 10% grey test as soon as you can. If it has banding then Pana do replace without argument, our first panel had banding).
Of course you could wait for God knows how long (Maybe next year or even next decade), and I am sure there will be something much better and cheaper.

  • LG OLED65C7 is better. Picked this up for $3400 delivered from bing Lee over Easter. Compared to this Pana it has Dolby vision and MUCH better OS.

    • LG has terrible customer support

    • All I need from a tv is a good picture. The OS on all Tvs ain’t that great - I use other devices plugged in (bluray, pvr, streamer). Dolby Vision, well yes, but it hasn’t taken off yet. Panasonic has better colour. LG is far cheaper though.

      • Think you’ll also find that LG has much better SD upscaliing

        • First, who watches SD? Second, the Sony has the best upscaling, then Panasonic (which has best colour), then LG (best OS, if you use tv OS) (according to HDTVTest), but, hey, the LG is cheaper!

I don’t use tv’s colour, upscaling or OS (or speakers!). I really just need a dumb panel with excellent picture. I use a Lumagen Radiance Pro 4242 with a calibration meter (cost more than the tv) and a Bryston SP3 for sound. So the LG probably would have been the same for me. :-)

TV is one of my few luxuries :-)

  • Who uses SD? Almost everything we watch on free TV is SD. Most of the so called HD channels are still up scaling much of their content and don’t get me started on bandwidth of these. LG reviews consistently show best upscale result and not Sony. I would tend to agree as I researched in store very well over last 6-9 months. Also I found Sony over emphasise black levels to show off OLED at the expense of the dark detail. Lg is most natural looking. I don’t think Panasonic is any better than LG. This brand is pretty much an OEM brand in the TV biz these days. Not worth the money over LG

At the end of the day they are all using LGs panels, so all they are adding is some of their own video encoding and decoding tech and a little of their own marketing blurb to justify the higher prices compared to LG which they have to as they are not the panel manufacturer and this component comprises more than half of the cost of making the TV. At least LG can make so money at the factory level. The others are just buying and selling so they have to make perceived higher end product. No thanks. Names billy not silly.

    • So the broadcaster has upscaled the Sd to HD, not the tv. What are you watching? Hogan’s Heroes reruns? :-) I know it amazing what rubbish quality they get away with showing isn’t it?

What kind of reviews though? I trust HDTVtest and Rtings. Anything like a magazine review or god forbid Choice is not worth anything. They rate the three brands differently when actually measured. The brand processing tech is what makes the difference. Research in store in useless as they are not displayed correctly. They often have a Store mode which is bright and garish so they suck in the ignorant.

I’ve found huge difference from out of the box picture and after a proper calibration, so in store means nothing.

      • Gotta love Hogan’s heroes. Lol. But seriously just saying how bad some of our broadcast tv is. When I was in store I ask to see free tv broadcasts with access to remote control to see picture settings and make adjustments. Retail staff normally agree to this.

In HD and 4K As I said Sony is good but black level can look crushed vs LG. Panasonic used to have nice picture back in the day but these days no difference to other brands. I don’t rate any of their recent products. Paper specs is not the way to buy these tvs, you have to also look at them closely.

        • Not by paper specs, but by experts using professional calibration tools. They calibrate and watch the same footage side by side in controlled circumstances. Can’t get better than that.

Still the question of wether it’s worth paying some $1,500 odd more for the better of the three. As with all things AV, you pay through the nose for that last bit of improvement.

  • Here's the HDTVTest video TV of the year. You need your wits about you watching these as he gets quite technical.
