[TAS] Homelite 2-Stroke Blower Vac $40 (Was $95) @ Bunnings (Devonport)

120

Spotted this on clearance at Bunnings Devonport, might be at other stores.
Model number doesn't match current ones on Bunnings website so must be outgoing model.
Mixed reviews online, but for $40 I'll give it a go. If it doesn't start I'll take it back.
Apparently bloody noisy so I stumped up an extra $10 for ear muffs.

I got mine for $65 about 3 years ago. It is certainly worth this price. I've had bigger after-shave bottles than the fuel tank.

    Bargain great cheap blower

  • Does anybody know if these sort of deals are specific to the one location?

    • +1

I hope someone can answer your question better than me, but I'm estimating that with a different model number from the ones on the shelf that they are likely to have others discontinued elsewhere, but the price may be store-specific.
Since the date on the tag was 14/4/18, they might not yet be discounted elsewhere… or already cleared.

Thanks for the reassuring comments guys! I need to get some 2 stroke oil before I can give it a razz.
A smarter guy would have grabbed some while in Bunnings… :(

    • Isn't there a small bottle of it (about 100ml) in the box?

      • No, not this time :(
I need some for my line trimmer anyway though so no big deal.

When I bought mine 3 years ago it had a small bottle of oil in it to get you going.

    • Not this time :(

    FWIW …………

I had one of these a while ago and when it worked it worked well.

However it was often a bi*ch to start and frequently wouldn't idle.

When the fuel line fitting broke from the fuel tank I was almost relieved, finally a chance to toss it out !!

I replaced it with a $49 electric Ozito blower-vac from Bunnings and haven't looked back.

Honestly Guys, go for the Ozito, and when the bag finally perishes they also sell replacement bags for $20.

      0830? That's almost legal.

Do it 0700 or earlier next time.

      • +1

8.30 is legal from 8am sunday and public holidays in Brisbane anyway.

  • I can't see how this is also a vacuum, maybe someone can confirm.
    Current model just says blower.

The one I had WAS a blower-vac, but it involved undoing a bolt from the center of the fan-guard, inserting the vacuum tube and re-securing the bolt through the vacuum tube when you wanted to change modes.

With the vacuum tube now coming out of the center of the machine (at a 90 degree angle) it was the most unergonomic and unwieldy design ever conceived by man.

Yet another reason I was happy to chuck it and go for the $49 Ozito electric, flick a lever even while it's going to change modes !!

EDIT: Link to the picture where it's converted to vacuum mode, note the vacuum tube and if you look closely you can see the fan guard opened…..

I've got an ozito electric already, but cordless options are somewhat attractive….although maybe this one not so much.
Even from your photo you can see how awkward the ergonomics are.

        • I checked your link, and you're right, that one is blower-only, and given that, it's easier to use than the one I had.

If you can live with the hassles of the engine it's probably not a bad option, but then again I'm not a big fan of blower-only units, all they do is blow the rubbish from one place to another whereas with the blower-vacs once you've got it all in one place it's easier to then vacuum up !

I tell anyone that if they have a power-point within "extension lead distance" of their area then electric is the way to go compared to petrol :)

          @Buyer10987:
agreed, the blower function is only useful as an 'air rake' to quickly form a rough pile to vacuum up.
