Jetts 24hr Fitness - 2 for 1 Joining Fee - Save $99 (Bundall, QLD-Maybe at Other Locations?)

100

After the excess of the holiday period (err.. past few years, really), I'm keen to get back to the gym and get my fitness back on track. I dropped by the Jetts Fitness in Bundall (Gold Coast, QLD), near my work and picked up a flyer with a 2 for 1 joining special. Joining fee is normally $99 so this brings it down to $49.50 each. Note the website says there is also a $29 card fee, which I assume is on top of the joining fee which makes the total cost to get in the door $78.50 each plus fortnightly fees.
For those not aware, Jetts is a no frills gym open 24/7 but with limited hours where staff are present. But the trade off is good rates ($17.95/fornight for families & RACQ members, or $21.95 without consession), and the ability to use any of their gyms nation wide, day or night.
There are no pools, step classes, etc, just cardio machines and weights.
I don't know the full details yet as I'm yet to join, so any comments from current members are appreciated.
There website (www.jetts.com.au) also has a 3 Day trial available, which I plan to check out before plonking my cash down.

  • Great gym, not sure if you can normally get the joining fee waived, but if there is a new jetts opening anywhere then they always seem to waive all joining fees if you join before they officially open.

I'm a member of Jetts, and have successfully negotiated the 'family rate' for myself after being a member for about 6 months.

That was about a year ago, the best deal is paying a year in advance as you are no longer slugged with the $1.95 admin fee per fortnightly payment.

You also get regular workout plans every 12 weeks if you want them.

  • You should be able to negotiate the joining fee being waved all together. Any gym I've feign bending over backwards to wave the charge you pay for the 'inconvenience' of becoming their customer. Never pay a joining fee, and then start to haggle on the ongoing membership fee's/costs.

    • Have tried that and that won't waive the joining fee. So I said nevermind. They don't seem to care and neither was i. This was at Alexandria nsw.

    • Don't know why the above comments were negged but I agree with this, the card fee I can understand, but how do you justify a 99 joining fee? What for? For punching your name and details into a database? I have never paid a joining fee either and if they can't be bothered waving the fee then just walk away.

    • right on! Fitness first were a tough lot to deal with, but I got my joining fee waved and managed to bring the fortnightly cost down. I then asked what they could do if my wife joined with me. They waved her joining fee too, gave us a gift backpack and some other piece of junk, but also I got my fortnightly fee dropped by $5.

      • Fitness first are scum. I was was a member with them for over 7years.

Through out those years I signed up a few friend and got the socalled $5 off /month ($2.50 / fortnight)…The bullshit part was, even thought I got the discounts for signing up friends, eventually I ended up paying more because they would continually increase their prices once or twice a year. As for the free backpack n towels they give you.. LoL those bags are worth $1 to make

Meaning by the time I canceled my membership, I was paying more per fortnight then I was when I initially started. The bastards even charged my a 2 week fee because they said I needed to give them 2 weeks notice. That a joke.

I'm thinking of joining Jetts on the family rate and paying just the yearly fee to save money over the monthly costs… The savings with Jetts is huge compared to Fitness Last.

As for free joining Fees.. It all comes down to person you talk to and the amount of commission they want. Some wont budge on free joining fee and others will gladly give it to you, just try a differnt person

  • i joined in january last year and they waived the joining fee. also gave me the family rate because i had a friend that went there. the $2 admin fee is so annoying.

  • Jetts deal on Spreets for Perth…appears to apply everywhere though?

"3-Month Gym Membership At Jetts For Just $89! Includes A One-To-One Personal Training Session. Score 24/7 Access To 88 Gyms Around Australia!"

    • "appears to apply everywhere though?" Looks like you have to join at that particular gym in Perth, then you can use any of their gyms. I'd like to hear if anyone knows otherwise.

It amazes me that gyms even try and get away with charging a joining fee.. especially when they then go on to charge a second "card" fee that covers their admin costs etc for you becoming a customer.

I have never heard of a gym that wont gladly waive 100% joining fee if you start to walk out the door.. they REALLY want you as a long term customer..

If my electrician, plumber, doctor, mobile phone carrier, vet, etc tried to charge me an up front joining fee to become their customer so they can then go on to charge me for the actual services I use (and most of those people do not get the luxury of recurring billing or a long term contract) I would tell them to shove their joining fee where the sun never shines..

    • I have a feeling the same person is negging the comments speaking out against a joining fee. Maybe I'll vote +ve to redress the balance.

  • i walked into jetts a few months back for a 3 day trial.
(there's a website that offers trials from all the gyms… just google trial gym .au or something).

Jetts instantly offered half joining fee and family fee and personal training session.. without haggle.
i still didn't accept.. i am happy for now running/cycling and using park equipment/gravity.

once i reach a limit with that, i'll consider them again.

(p.s i dislike the lack of free bench press there)

    • No gym that is un-staffed during opening times will ever have free bench presses… saves them from getting sued.

      • My local Jetts has free bench press (but only up to 50kg)

        • Where is your local?

        • really? which location. I've been to approx 7 difference locations and have only ever seen smith machines not free bench.

  • Hey guys, I go jetts in miranda and have had a really positive experience there. I have no need for gym staff, and appreciate that I can go whenever I like. FYI tho you will have to pay and additional charge of 2x your fortnightly payment when you join though, this is part of their pay as you go, no contract thing, you can opt out when ever you like but will still have access for a month after u give them notification that your leaving. Didn't really bother me as I figured if I am going anywhere for long enough to warrant canceling my membership, that I would know quite a while in advance.

  • I have been to the Jets at Miranda and the guy there is really bad at customer service. I was there with 3 mates and we were all ready to join on the spot if he would have waived the lousy joining fee. Not only did he refuse to waive it but he wouldn't even give us a slight discount on the fees. I refuse to pay a joining fee (on principle) so I have to be content with swimming and bodyweight exercises. The other bad thing about Jets is they have no squat rack or bench press - something to do with the liability if some1 got stuck or injured while there was no staff on duty.

    • Not having a squat rack didn't bother me to begin with, but I now I wish they had this & an Olympic barbell.. you can work around it, but it's still a downside if you like squats and Olympic lifts.
