BEWARE - i tried 4 different units at the reject shop (with the help of reject shop assistants) and all were not working – ended up refunding the item. The first one had an empty gas canister to begin with and the rest wouldn't gas the water. I believe it's because the gas canister cannot be screwed in tightly enough due to an extra rubber washer. Apparently, if you remove one of the washers, you may get it working. Definitely not worth the trouble.
I had the same trouble I thought either the soda stream was broken or that the gas canister was empty.
I before I tried to take it back I tightened it a bit and tried again and success !
So not bad for everyone !
This bargain has expired. The reject shop will happily give you a full refund even without receipt, but they are no longer selling them.

I thought that deal finished months ago. I might go have a look this weekend now.
I just kept the second one I got after one swap. I went to coles and swapped the empty bottle I got with the unit for a 60L bottle for $20.95. So in the end it cost me $61. Still not a bad deal. The reject shop was great, no issues swapping. But after two units being the same I just gave up. Now it is working, so far so good.
