if you read up someone has stated that optus dont apply the student offer.

      • I just signed up to this plan through live chat and they accepted my student discount making the plan come down to $44.10 a month.

    • Thanks lads

    • If you have access to a .edu.au email address then you should be able to get student discount. They email you the discount code to use in the student hub. Im not sure why someone said that the student discount isnt compatible with this deal, it worked for me. Maybe a misinformed staff member or I may receive an email cancelling my order. Hopefully the first option.

    • I am a teacher and have an .edu email address which I used and I have been getting discount for the last 3 years

      • Same. ;)

      • Do you just get the code sent to you and then it's all good?

My mum is a teacher and i would like to use hers :)

  • Cancellation policy
Your phone repayments are reduced by a monthly credit. If you need to cancel your plan there are no plan cancellation fees, simply pay out the full remaining cost of your phone which will include any monthly credits that Optus was going to cover.

Can any one please enlighten me on this? Handset payment on this is 5 $ so does it mean if I end the contract after a month I have to pay only 23x11= 253$?

    • Probably better off asking someone from Optus.

    • How did you go with this one? That certainly does sound interesting!

    • +1

No, it doesn't work like that. You don't get any of telcos monthly credit on the plan when you cancel so it would be more like $1000 est. Also it's not 11months, more like 23 months.

      • Is there anywhere you can find out the full handset repayment amount (including what Optus covers)?

        • +1

Optus provides you $44 "handset credit" when you are on the plan, making it seem like the device is only $5 a month. When you cancel you forfeit this, and must pay $49 x months left. Not 5 dollars. It's purposefully deceptive, but hey what do you expect!

        • @Soybeanus: would u seriously expect to pay 5 dollars a month to cancel a contract?

        • @Dont Care: Obviously not lol

        • +1

          @Soybeanus:
Thanks. I expected something like that but couldn’t find the number.
Kind of makes cancelling pointless (especially if you are a student paying $44.60/month for the plan and phone)

Rather than going through all the trouble trying to sell the phone and use the money to buy a better phone, people should look carefully around. There are heaps of previous gen flag ship and current gen mid range phones on very good deals now…around us$ 500. Then sign yourself up to a 12 month deal when they are on special. It would work out about the same amount of money and much more flexible.

Don't get me wrong, the deal is not a bad one, just not spectacular. There are better ways to spend that noney ….

Upgraded from a sim only 12 month plan 40 plus 15 for optus to this which includes optus sport and get a phone so pretty happy.

    • +2

same here! Time to say goodbye to my P.O.S. Moto G4plus….

  • FYI. tried to match the offer with Vodafone as my contract expired couple of months ago. Vodafone wasn't able to match the offer. Signed up with Optus.

  • Got the 20Gb student plan in Feb. Just upgraded to the S8 20Gb plan. Very happy with this. Can sell my S7 Edge and be well ahead.
FYI As long as you have the student code it seems that Optus are happy, no real student checks as far as I know.

    • What is code? Thx

      • I'm assuming codes are linked to email addresses so doubt you could use someone else's… but I could be wrong.

Anyone code a student code to share

  • For those in the know, with the Optus sport included, can I watch on laptop or is it only via the phone.

    • You can watch on PC or other devices that can get Optus Sport App

      • Thanks, have you actually done this. Even though the website says you can access via the optus sport app. also (which I presume means you can access via the Apple TV (which you can get the optus app via the App store), I spoke to two different Optus agents / 'customer service … (what a joke that title is with their attitude), one said you can access via a tablet or PC, the other said no, strictly via the phone only.

I'm with Woolies and signed up 12m ago paying 77 pm for 8gb and s8… Would they reduce costs for remainder of plan if I rang… ?

    • +2

      Big fat no

    • +1

      Nope

That's like going back to the car dealership and asking for a discount cause the price reduced somewhere else…….

  • Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has the website to get the code for the student discount?
I tried this website https://offer.optus.com.au/student-hub but when I put my uni email in, I never get sent the code.

    Regards
    Chris

    • I have a code but only lets me select Sim only plans not phone.

      • Same here even though It was there yesterday

        • Chat gave me nothing, said there is no option blah blah blah

  • They removed phone plans from student hub. Amy idea if you can add student code to phone plan anywhere else?

    • I thought so, I tried a couple of hours ago, and thought I was doing something wrong.

      Good on ya! Optus.

I was going to pull the trigger, but that just put me off, together with yes or no access of optus Sport App… (earlier comment).

      • I tried yesterday at around 4pm and it was removed the student hub. The online chat people won't honour it either.

has anyone managed to convince a chat person or optus about getting the student discount? Also, has anyone got harvey norman or jb hifi to better the deal?

    • yes, i signed up online i think the day after the deal was posted. got the 10% student discount on the s8 plan, total of 20gb/mo with GS8 for $44.60 month. comes with free spotify/music data and optus sport, but no free netflix streaming, although you can get that for $10 a month extra if you wish.
as for whether it is still doable is another thing entirely.

  • The plans are now back up on the student hub. I signed up for the Galaxy S9 on a 25gb data promo plan for $63 a month using the student discount. Lease is even cheaper.

  • I'm a newbie so it's not letting me post the deal but the $30 sim plan with 15GB is back as well until the 20th of May… Found this link for the offer - https://offer.optus.com.au/SIM30?dclid:CIDg0_2n7doCFcyEvAodm…

At the bottom of the offer page you can see the critical information page - http://www.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Documents…

  • Anyone still getting student discount?
Generated a student voucher but got an error saying only valid in student hub.
Asked Optus chat and got told no.

    • you have to do the html hack, i did it on friday and just got the confirmation call saying it went through

      • Could you please tell us how you did the HTML hack? :)

        • anyone that needs to know just pm me

        • @Extremetempz: Can this be done without having a edu.au email address? About to bite the bullet this weekend and sign up, have held out this long to see if anything better comes up at getting an S8 aus stock. Anyone else know of any other optus discounts I could apply for?
