Can you buy with gift card?

        • At self serve yes. It's possible but possibly against T&C's.

        • -1

Yes u can. Not at self check out tho.

        • +1

@sween64: no you can't anymore. Tried it a few times at different woollies too. They have fixed it.

        • @runamuck: Which cards? About a month ago I bought iTunes gift card with eGift card.

        • +4

@sween64: Not sure bout iTunes Giftcards but I tried purchasing wish Giftcards and also eftpos gift card and they no longer work. Tried it at different check out register and self serve, won't allow me. This was a week ago.

        • @runamuck: Do you know if WISH gift card still able be used to recharge Opal card?

        • @O O: no idea. I only tried to buy wish gift card (to extend my expiry) and eftpos.

        • @O O: yes, definitely use it almost every week

        • @sween64: Can't buy mobile starter packs with gift card anymore. Was told it is because they are treated like a gift card and some gift cards can't be purchased with gift cards anymore.

        • @O O: yup. can be done. i top up my Opal card using giftcards

        • I phoned woolworths store, and they told me you cannot use a woolworths gift card, to buy another gift card. Maybe you can just not tell them, and pay using gift card (but do all payment anf card handling yourself) , just say paying on card, and put the pin number in on back (and select 'savings' if machine asks) .

        • +1

@JIMB0: I bought a Woolworths Mobile Starter Kit with an egift card last week at self-service. It can still be done.

        • +1

@sween64: It didn't work at the service desk. How did you get it to self serve? Usually they make you buy it there and then at the service desk.

        • +1

@JIMB0: The SK was located in the secret cupboard behind the gift card rack in the aisle. The attendant handed me the SK and I took it with my other groceries to self serve.

  • +13

Seems like a convoluted way to save ~$3 (or ~$8 if using the discounted WISH cards but I'm pretty sure you can't buy a gift card with a wish gift card).

The only way I can see this being worthwhile is if you are going to buy that gift card as an actual gift and you want to offset the $6.95 fee.

    • +2

I byy it to pay bills if that helps while also using those rewards points for Qantas flights.

  • Or you could, you know. Purchase 100 dollar worth of groceries

    • +4

Purchase 100 dollar worth of groceries….at Aldi and save $25-40.

    • -3

Or use the $100 gift card, to buy another $100 wish card (at 5% off) then repeat :)

  • +2

I got a few credit cards I need to rack up a spend on! Could come in handy!

    • what credit card are you paying out? does AUPost allow to split into multiple cards?
I found my CC either not allowing AUPost, or cost few dollars extra fee.

  • You can certainly buy these gift cards with discounted Wish cards, especially digital ones, no problem.

    • -4

No you can't. Tried it recently. Was able to before not anymore.

      • Bought two eBay gift cards at the counter today along with a couple other things. No issues. A good way to get a consistent 5% off

        • They are changing the software. Machines at my local changed overnight

        • Me too. Bought ebay $100 * 14 at different woolies without problem at staff checkout .

      • how recently is it? i bought with wish card and still work in late january…

        • +2

If the user interface in the machine is newish chances that it doesn't work. They can change the software overnight

      • Multiple reports of successfully buying David Jones gift cards with Woolworths eGift cards at the start of April.

        • I'm only based on my encounter. Tried it at 3 different woollies and also Woolworth caltex. The system just won't allow me to purchase gift card with gift card.

        • +1

@runamuck: Were you trying to buy a Woolworths Wish Gift Card? I purchased DJ's cards with eGift card at start of month but could not buy Wish Gift Card. See comment from Kendo here:-https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5805578/redir

        • @argonbay: I was able to purchase wish Giftcards with wish Giftcards previously. Somehow started this month, I wasn't able to. I was using physical wish card.

        • +2

@runamuck: I think you will find that you can purchase other gift cards with Wish/eGift but cannot buy Woolworths Gift Cards. That was my experience at start of April. Might be wrong if they have upgraded software recently?

        • At my woolies can no longer use self checkout, but recently purchased kogan gift cards using a wish e-card.

  • +1

    It doesn’t say there’s a limit.

  • Great deal OP, thanks.

  • +8

The purchase fee used to be $5.95 only… :(

    • +1

This fee is the most ridiculous rip-off I've ever seen!!! Really can't be justified when so many other gift cards have zero fees. Typical of banks & financial institutions just charging whatever they like. People should just avoid these products.

  • It is not clear if there is a maximum limit that you can buy.
On the catalogue it looks like there is a # on the desription but I cannot read very well the fine print on the bottom.

    • It says ‘applies to pictured card only’ so no limit listed

      • +1

They used to have a limit of 10.

    • +2

Limited to how many you can find which is probably not many.

  • -1

2000 Rewards Points for 870 QFF points + the points you earned on purchasing these gift cards 106.95 x 1.5(Amex) and use these gift cards to shop via qantas mall… easily get 11+ QFF points per dollar spent

    • +3

How do you use these cards via the Qantas mall? They are EFTPOS cards so you need to be using them at a physical EFTPOS machine, they are not like a Visa or Mastercard which you can use online.

      • -1

without that, you still get 9+ QFF per dollar. That's good enough for me

        • So is MrBr0 correct?

        • @illumination: He is referring to going through the Qantas Mall to then go to Woolies online to do the purchasing. Although I don't know if Woolies list it no their site, plus as I said below Qantas Mall excludes points on GCs

        • @knobbs: if he means eftpos cards they can’t be purchased online

        • +1

@wxyz234: Ok yeah then take 4 QFF per $1 off then. Thanks for confirming

    • In the Qantas Mall it says that Gift Cards are excluded from points. Not sure if they can track it but just be ware.

  • A little similar to the recent David Jones $10 bonus from Visa giftcard purchase isn't it?

Buy giftcard at 5% off thus costing u 101.60, then use that giftcard to buy egiftcards at 5%… Repeat

    • +4

Well these are eftpos cards so you won't be able to buy discounted wish giftcards online. Harder to giftception.

      • Ah thank u for clarifying!!

      • Can't you use this $100 EFTPOS card to buy another $100 EFTPOS card and do inception that way? $3 free each time….
Of course start with your first purchase of the card with a discounted Woolworths e-gift card to save an initial 5%

        • You can use the EFTPOS to buy more EFTPOS.

But aren't you better off continuing to use discounted eGift Cards and use the EFTPOS somewhere else?

        • +1

          @sween64:
True, I was just liking the idea of free money.

  • Big question is how many transactions per rewards card

    • There’s no limit. Only limit is how many stores offers it.

  • +1

I wonder why people are being negged based on their own experience of being able to buy similar cards with discounted Wish cards as recent as this month. Intolerance of facts perhaps.

    • Not really, part of the deal is to use egiftcards so you're actually gaining about $9 (woolies money) . Better than a lot of front page free samples

      • +1

Yep, or 870 qantas points for 1.60…. 10 or 11 of these could get you a flight (one way) to quite a few domestic destinations on an awards flight for a cost of under $15 before tax (using discounted egift cards). So much better than 10x samples!

        • -2

Given that you can book a one way domestic flight for $50-60, I'm not sure if this work worths the hassle. You'd pay $15 in taxes and also be left with $1100 EFTPOS cards that can only be used in person at shops.

    • +1

If you don’t like it, then don’t visit the website. No one is forcing you…

    • +3

Some of us know this is worth more than face value. If you are not smart enough to think outside the square, then that is your fault. Don't bag deals that others see value in.

    • Bye, we'll miss your fantastic contributions to this site.

    • +1

If you are Woolies group staff, the cash profit can be $14+ per card with all the benefits stacked.

  • +5

Hope everyone realises this is EFTPOS and so you will not be able to use it online at all.

  • -4

50x points this week makes the deal even better :)

    • +1

50x points on? You don't ger normal points on GC tho.

      • Yep, till 27Apr

        • +1

isn't it 5x? anyway yeah no points when you buy giftcards, unlike flybuys.

        • My bad, its 5x

  • +3

The $6.95 fee increase is giving me nightmares!

    • +2

It is actually only 30c dear per card.

$1 extra is counterbalanced 140 points more earned per card. You may notice that each card generates 2140 pts now after you scan your Rewards card.

      • the extra 140 points has made the deal even sweeter!

even though it may only be 70c

      • +3

I purchased 2 cards, and scanned my staff discount, came up to $203.20 after $10.70 staff discount, then it also generated 4504 points for the 2 cards, paid for with discounted egift card, total cash cost $193.04 plus the 4504 points. Will go back again tommoro and do the same thing !! Im in effect paying $85 for a $100 eftpos gift card - and that includes the $6.95 purchase fee

  • -2

So pissed with the idiots above talking about using egift card to buy gift card, just like use Visa1 to pay ATO and you know what? Visa1 is no longer accepted on ATO website, idiots.

    • why pay by cc there anyway? they charge a cc % fee.

    • I purchased this eftpos card with discounted egift card, and also added my staff discount on top

      • With the staff discount card, does it save the 2000 points (rather 2140) per card to the staff discount card number or do you have to scan a 'regular' woolies rewards card as well?

        Thanks :)

        • +1

staff card and rewards is one of the same

        • With a staff Rewards card,the points generated is 2252 per card(instead of 2140).

        • +1

@Neoika: with my staff card my first purchase of 2 generated 4504 points , and my next purchase of 3 generated 6756 points

        • @MelbBargainChaser77: Thanks for the info.

        • @Turd: Thanks :)

  • +7

Limit of 5 per customer written on in store signage.

    • +1

      Well spotted.

    • +3

I can confirm you can buy an unlimited amount and get points for all of them, and best thing of all I started buying them in batches of 5, and was paying for the next lot of 5, with the 5 I had just purchased, perfect gift cardception. My only limit was the amount left on the shelf (73 cards to be exact) and all this took me about 75 minutes at self serve tonight. The supervising lady at the self serve came over and asked politely why i was buying so many- I actually told her the truth and she was fascinated by the whole process and inspired to do the same herself. For those playing at home my 75 minutes invested in this and initial $475 dicounted $500 egift card purchase netted me 164396 WW rewards points tonight- just over $820 reward I believe.

      • Impressive. Does this only work because of your staff discount or will it work out to be worth it regardless?

Can anyone help on the maths on this for non woolies staff?

        • +2

This works out because of discounted initial egift card purchase and the staff discount sure does come in handy covering the majority of that horrible $6.95 fee per card. After staff discount every 5 cards cost me $508.01 . You will still be ahead with no staff discount or discounted egift card. about $3 ahead per $100 card without either of those benefits, and about $8 ahead if you use discounted e gift card. those that can stack staff discount and discounted egift card are about $14-$15 ahead per card.

        • +1

          @MelbBargainChaser77:
The discount per card after stacking 5% off Staff Discount and 5% off WISH eGift Card and $10 from Woolworths Rewards points is $13.48.

So are you saying you started with only a single $500 WISH eGift Card that you purchased at $475 from Cashrewards, then bought 5 EFTPOS gift cards, which happened to activate instantly, which could then be used for the next purchase of 5? I hope I'm reading right.

I've got a staff discount barcode too so wondering how to work this properly :)

        • @MathNerd: Dare I say MathNerd your maths is wrong!! My calculations tell me its greater than $13.48.

Lets break it down and see. Feel free to correct me if im wrong.

For simplicity sake lets talk about 1 single card

          Purchase price is $106.95

          (1) $106.95 minus staff discount 5% = $5.35 discount bringing down cost to $101.60
          (2) $101.60 egift card - 5% is a further $5.08 saving, bringing down cost to $96.52
          (3) $96.52 minus $10WW, bringing down cost to $86.52

Adding the 3 discounts together $5.35 + $5.08 + $10 = $20.43 total savings per card, not $13.48 as I too had also previously calculated.
