I knew you'd post these items again :)

BTW, QD and DWI are now stocking the new Nokia 2018 phones with the new ultra-tall aspect ratio and newer generation chipsets.

    Nokia 6.1 ($330.30) 64GB / 4GB RAM / Snapdragon 630

    Nokia 7Plus ($512.10) 64GB / 4GB / Snapdragon 660

    • btw, both phones have no LED notification.

It's not a new generation of chipset, it's the same (also the Nokia 7 had the Snapdragon 630 as well).

These chips did come out slightly later than the 835 but are in the same generation, Qualcomm staggers their release of chips (so we get the flagship first then midrange a few months later). They're feature equivalent though and the 835 is much faster (also on a smaller process, 10nm vs 14nm). The Nokia 6.1 isn't the ultra-tall display, it's the stock standard 16:9 - 1920x1080 as result as the 630 doesn't support those ratios. Nokia could have opted for the Snapdragon 636 released a few months ago to use this display but didn't (probably due to cost)

IMO the Nokia 8 is the way better option. It has faster clock speeds, better manufacturing process (10nm vs 14nm) and a faster modem (x16 vs x12), higher res and a better camera. The only thing the 7Plus has going for it is it's bigger (although at a lower resolution).

      • ahh I see. I must have got it confused with some other mid-end device.

The Nokia 7 plus is quite pricey given it's specs, and most people would definitely gravitate to an ex-flagship phone given a $500 budget.

        • With a $500 budget i'd be looking towards the OnePlus offerings.

        • I guess it's all relative. I think half the price of the Pixel 2 XL with the main differences being a downgrade in the CPU (screen is lower res but it's debatable whether most people would prefer the Pixel's screen over this) and a bigger battery in the Nokia, is a good deal. The selling point for the Nokia over the other mid-rangers is the stock Android One and guaranteed 2 years of speedy updates. That's very important to me at least.

        • @dazweeja: Agree about the updates. My Nokia 8 updated to Android Oreo 8.1 today.

    • Thank you, had my eye on the 6.1 for a while now. Picked one up!

Good price for the note 8, possibly cheapest to date

    • Cheapest grey stock so far I think.

  • Wouldn't recommend getting Note 8 or any Samsung grey imports. If you break screen or even want to replace something, Samsung service centers here won't even touch your phone if its not local stock

    • -4

Wouldn't ever recommend and Samsung phones

Their prices are absurd for what is a questionably designed device which runs an OS designed to slurp data away to the worlds largest tracking business.

Say what you like about Apple but they are not on the tracking and advertising business so paying the same league of prices is absurd.

        • Yep. Apple gets laughed at for its marketing expresses, but Samsung have the best marketing machine out of everyone.
Their phones are built worse, have worse software and cost more than other android manufacturers such as Sony.

Every person who I've convinced to switch to Sony or another android phone from Samsung has been amazed my the improvement in build quality and ui performance.

Samsung devotees will sometimes day "oh yeah, use a custom Rom" lol

@idonotknowwhy: people always buy big brands because they are big brands
I'm still running a lg nexus 5x I got for 50 bucks off gumtree Lol

Not a brand with good quality control

You can also get the Galaxy S9 for $845. Same seller and grey import. Link - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Samsung-Galaxy-S9-SM-G960F-D…

  • This is a better deal than the 850 EVO SSD1tb

    MX500 1tb for $313.70 delivered

Very comparable on performance - http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Samsung-850-Evo-1TB-vs-…

    • MX500 is marginally better actually.

Note 8 now about $500 cheaper via grey import than Australian retail. Gotta wonder.

  • Nokia 8 is easily the best phone you can get for the money.

    • What's the comparison to HTC 10?

      • No Contest Win for Nokia 8 because:

Much more powerful CPU, much longer battery life, much brighter screen with better viewing angles, better outdoor visibility, better colour and contrast, with Gorilla Glass 5, Nokia 8 will be upgrade-able to future android versions, more internal storage in base model. Camera's are a toss up between them, slightly better main cam on the HTC 10, but Nokia 8 has twin rear cams plus a better selfie cam.

Avoid DWI. The phone they sent me was network locked to some telco in Taiwan. Issue is still unresolved; I am still unable to use the phone in Melbourne with a local SIM.

    • +1

Yes. Mine was also network locked in Japan.

    • +1

      PayPal dispute it.

      • Found out a year later….

        • How did it take you a year to realize you couldn't even use your phone?

        • @Agret: I travelled to Japan with the phone a year after the purchase….

  • Looking to get the dual sim model.

So does that mean I can use a TPG sim card and an overseas sim card at the same time so they will both be able to receive SMS and Calls and not have to switch cards each time?

    • +1

yes. I have both Telstra and Voda sims in my Nokia 8. Both sims are online receiving calls and sms.
Can call or sms from either, and can configure a default for calls, sms, data.

      • Excellent will be perfect.

  • Does anyone know if the postage estimates are accurate on the ad? Can’t wait until early June for a new phone unfortunately.
