Westpac: 80,000 QFF Points with Altitude Black ($250 Annual Fee) & 40,000 with American Express Bundle Card ($199 Annual Fee)

Long time member, first time poster.

My brother in law (Westpac employee) pointed out this deal, as I discussed with him that I was in the market for a credit card preferably tied to a Qantas frequent flyer program.

Westpac Black Card with bonus 80,000 Qantas FF points - $250 annual fee. $5000 spend criteria in 90 days.
American Express companion card with bonus 40,000 Qantas FF points - $199 annual fee. $3000 spend criteria in 90 days.

Black cards have a higher earning rate than the normal Platinum card. Not a bad way to pick up some extra points.

  • What is the Qantas Rewards fee ($50) associated with the altitude card? Is that an additional fee that has to be paid?

    • -2

I think that is the normal fee to create a QFF account. Well, that those less bargain orientated pay anyway.

      • +1

This is incorrect. Qantas charges an ongoing fee to be part of its rewards program. This gets passed on to the consumer.

Citibank Signature (Fee free for life) deal passes on this $50/year cost as well

        • Ah ok cool, not sure what that is, i was just referring to the QFF program which some unlucky people actually paid to join.

  • +2

I believed they are being offered as two “separated” cards, not as a bundle likes before.

  • +6

My understanding is that applying for this offer will result in two credit checks - one for Westpac, and one for AMEX. So bear that in mind before proceeding.

    • -4

      Why does that matter?

  • Do you have to get the two cards?

  • +3

Not worth the $450 in annual fees and $8000 spend in 90 days.

    • Certainly not with $8000, but if you are likely to spend it anyway (or can arrange big expenses to make it work) then the 120,000 qff points are worth well more than $450 in fees

      • +3

I think it would be better overall going for the free annual fee promotions with bonus points when they come around and then leaving just before the annual fee is due.

        • Havent seen one for a while.

          I need a visa/Mastercard

lol 8K in 3 months is not worth

  • The 80k QFF westpac black is the way to go with 5k spend in 90 days. Wouldn't bother with the 40K QFF Amex branded card at $199 personally plus further minimum spend criteria.

Still the best card for QFF points
75k points and no annual fee
$2500 Min spend in 3 months

    • +2

Agreed. The problem is there is no other great fee-free options with good bonuses for when you are between ANZ cards

      • +3

You can do the ANZ qff card and ANZ rewards card (different rewards program) alternating every year

  • Scammers. They killed off the last Amex a few months after the annual fee & refused to even prorate a refund on it.

  • I am thinking to apply to this card but I am a bit hesitate :

    • I already ANZ card and I find ANZ deal is so much better : 75k Qantas points (no annual fee)

Is there anyway to waive the annual fee off or reduce the annual fee of Westpac card ? 250$ annual fee is way expensive.

Last year, my friend send me email from Westpac about the deal with City2suf Westpac and they offer free 150$ annual fee.

Do you know anydeal with Westpac ?

    Thank you

  • You still net a profit..

  • I've already got the ANZ Black credit card so I'm considering the Altitude Platinum deal as that one is $150 annual fee and 60k points and I would only get it for the points.

I wonder how much these credit cards are usually? I would never pay more than these prices for a credit card but I guess that is the OzBargainer in me haha
