Look for a 2nd hand automated machine or semi-automated machine.

Pods don't come close and aren't economically better…….let alone, produce better coffee.

Pods taste fine to me. But the price leaves a bitter taste.
Around $75-$150/kg for pods, compared to $15-$40/kg for beans.

But you are not a coffee drinker, and just want a machine for occasional guests, they become economical.

For people who actually drink coffee, try this instead:

        ?

    • first I couldn't believe that some people out there think Nespresso machines make good coffee, but then I remembered chains like CIBO and Starbucks also do good business pumping out mud.

would be handy for the decaf drinking guests as decaf beans get wasted and pod has longer shelf life.

    • You can also get decaf ESE pods, and use them in the same machine as fresh-ground coffee.

  • I bought one of these machines and absolutely hated it.
The unit is chunky and the pods doesn't always slide out automatically. The pods are larger and taking up more space.
I also have my coffee as an espresso, but it only comes in 4 flavours, which another one decaf.
    Regretted giving this a go.

Was thinking about one of these as they are so quiet - my regular Nespresso machine wakes the baby = grumpy wife.

And I drink long blacks (as most of the time I don't bother frothing milk) so the larger capacity pods designed for long blacks would suit me better.

I understand comments above about ground coffee machines being better value etc - but I want fast (60-90 seconds) and convenient for my 6AM daily coffee.

Merged from Nespresso VertuoPlus @ David Jones $199 ($79.10 after $100 cashback and 10% Cashrewards)

Long time lurker and benefitor, first time poster.

Was loitering around Indooroopilly Shopping Centre yesterday, and Nespresso had a pop-up promoting their new Vertuo coffee pod range (read: free coffee). The promoter mentioned that they're currently on sale at DJ's, JB Hi Fi and Good Guys for $199 and there's a cashback promotion of $100.

Combine together with Cashrewards David Jones' birthday bash of 10% cashback ending tonight, the machine can be had for $79.10; or even less if you're organised and have purchased David Jone's gift cards at a discount prior.

Pod costs are slightly more than the Original range but you get more volume of coffee per pod - I usually need 2 original pods to get me kick started every morning anyway. Suits people who like their coffee black, or a high water to milk ratio.

Please don't burn me if I've missed something out.

    • And 10% off gift cards from Entertainment Book?
Edit: nvm OP has it in description

      • Or 8% off DJ Gift Card from Suncorp Benefits

    • Any recommendations on which is the best of the four machines? All seem to have same RRP etc

Edit: I mean 2 machines! Didn't realise it was 2 models with colour choices

      • I did ask the Promoter that - just depends on your brand allegiance.

    • Is there any standalone steamer?

      high water to milk ratio.

Me, with the current one I have to add hot water. I tried the double espresso and not bad.

'Long time lurker and benefitor, first time poster.'
'Please don't burn me if I've missed something out.'

This is totally how i feel and prevents me from posting too. Anyway, good post buddy, nice work! :)

    • Tried one of these coffees at the Nespresso store. Tasted like dirty water (read: starbucks). Was not a fan, much prefer the original pod format - especially since the L'Or compatibles are regularly on sale at around $4 for 10pk.

      • I think they just heat up the milk for you instead of froth it, right?

  • Damn, ordered this a couple of days ago (havent collected it yet), and I checked if CR did David Jones (via the CR web browser plugin) and it said no results for that store name :(

  • Just read that these machines pods aren't sold in Coles or Woolies?! Is this true, none of the third party ones work etc?

    • Yes no third party ones yet.

      • No sale for me unfortunately then. Much prefer being able to pick them up from woolies etc

    • I guess it will need to wait for the sales of these machines to take off first before 3rd party coffee companies invest in the cloned pods.

  • looks like it's a gamble for Nespresso to launch this product in Australia. I am waiting for the sale/gamble failed to meet the expectation and these machine will be sold cheaply .. lol

$80 out of pocket is pretty cheap already..

      • Yeah still not cheap enough?

  • New 11% cashrewards and also you can use DJ gift cards.

  • Just got one from MYER, selling both the Breville and Delonghi versions in store for $199 (website says $299) before cashback. MYER $100 Gift Cards with $10 bonus this weekend, so paid $200 will have $21 left over plus the Nespresso rep there does all your redemption for you!

I paid with my 28degrees Apple Pay, so hopefully that meant $190. Or effectively $90 after cashback plus extra $21 in bonus MYER Gift cards for the Vertuo Plus. :)

Cons of the Vertuo system is the coffee style is more Americano, which I like but means older style Nespresso not retiring just yet. And probably no third party capsules for the foreseeable future… I do like how we just need to add cold milk without the frother tho.
