After all the advertising from Velocity via email about the best deal ever coming up and not to transfer your points until May, The Promo from Christmas time was better for lesser amounts-

    1 to 50,000 Velocity Points = 15% Bonus
    50,001 to 100,000 Velocity Points = 20% Bonus
    100,001 to 250,000 Velocity Points = 25% Bonus
    250,000+ Velocity Points = 30% Bonus

ANZ with the booster being the only decent one in this promo unless you have over 750,000 points to transfer.

  • +2

Its either up to 40% or 20%
    not both

  • +1

So for flybuys and ANZ gets fixed 20% bonus, for AMEX is up to the tier. 40% is massive big, 750,000 points is too.

For flybuys the good news is during this promotion period the annual limit(138,000 flybuys)'s been removed.

    • disappointing for anz, was 50% last year :(

      • 1.5 million ANZ reward points and you'd get a 60% bonus I guess… sadly I'm in the bottom tier for ANZ.

      • +6

ANZ is 50% as well this time, see link below.

        https://anzrewards.com/public/info.aspx?name=velocity_may_20…

        • nice, this is probably the best deal of the lot.

        • Sweet! Odd that the ANZ info contradicts the Velocity info though.

        • @ely: aaahhhh, I see, the 20% bonus and the tiered bonus are not commutative, they're one or the other. So the velocity bonus for ANZ is 20% and then ANZ stacks their 30% on top.

    • Yeah was great that I could transfer all my points at once

  • +1

Still unsure whether to transfer my platinum edge amex cc points over on these bonuses. tempted to close it because of the lack of a free flight anymore but the points system is great. have to transfer the points out prior to closing but it seems hard to guess now if it'd be better stashing them in velocity or one of the other asian airlines.. guess there's not right answer is there? Just have to choose what i think 'may' be the most likely airlines i'll fly in the future? thinking of one that will get my business class upgrades or redemption seats for the honeymoon in a yrs time or so.

    • depends where you want to go for your trip really (between krisflyer and asiamiles). otherwise velocity has been amazing since sq opened up j and f redemptions, so its a safe bet

      • For first class to europe or America is the points and taxes for Kris VS velocity. What's better

        • +1

This'll give you an idea https://www.pointhacks.com.au/using-points-italy/

Would advise even planning to redeem premium cabins for US though, it's basically impossible to get 2 returns seats especially if you're not flying that week (Virgin seems more diligent about opening up their unsold seats for rewards)

You might want to look into Oneworld round the world redemptions

        • @nubix:

          That's a great link.
It actually confirmed a few things for me.
For long haul Europe first or business class.

Krisflyer has by far the lowest point requirements at 296k return. Plus under $300 and it looks like availability is one of the best.

For the others. Either Qantas or etihad or Qatar or Asia miles. You virtually need 400k points with most of them taxes well above $1k return

Most likely irrelevant to most I have an amex that will be closing soon so I was tossing up between transferring to velocity or kris or even Emirates or etihad….. But now it's a no brainier.

Edit: I also have Qantas points as well but it's good to know how useless they essentially are!

Anyone know what the taxes for Asia miles would be? Couldn't seem to find it

        • @hellohello123:

Asia miles is cheaper refer to this: https://www.pointhacks.com.au/asia-miles-around-the-world-re…

Taxes are the same as Qantas

        • @hellohello123: You should double check the Velocity cost because you no longer have to transfer to Krisflyer for SQ redemptions + this bonus so it might work out better

        • @nubix:

          Didn't know that!
          Will need to check

      • +1

What what? When did F redemptions come in? I thought you had to transfer to Krisflyer for those.

        • +1

          July last year https://www.ausbt.com.au/virgin-australia-unlocks-singapore-…

You still need to use the SQ site for availability and call to book though

        • @nubix:

Isn't it more expensive if you book with Velocity given it's 95k one way vs 116k return with Krisflyer.

I take that back, after doing a dummy search it seems Velocity is cheaper.

        • @nubix:

Do you know if booking SQ with Velocity is limited to certain routes?

        • @nubix: Ah right, good that it's possible, still annoying that you can't book via Virgin's site like J.

        • @nightelves: Yes, the value of Velocity is still lower than Krisflyer because there's no access to Spontaneous Escapes, free extra flights to SEA for the price of just the SG leg and generally lower price anyway. It's important to acknowledge that Velocity is still much easier to accrue and basically never expires

        • @nightelves: Not aware of any, including one way flights into Australia.

You can even redeem for SQ fares that VA doesn't codeshare (eg. Sapporo)

        • @nubix:

Yeah that’s what I thought. Tried searching for Mel-Sgn ex Sin and it didn’t come up in Velocity as a rewards booking.

      • Could you please explain what j and f redemptions mean? I'm not too experienced with this sorry

        • +1

          Business and First class respectively

  • +1

i really see velocity points as krisflyer miles. the increased flybuys bonus to 20% is nice.

they must be desperate to sell the points to get some extra $$$ revenue.

    • Agreed! Reward stopover holidays with krisflyer is amazing value!

  • So does that mean transfer (under 100k points) from flybuys nets 35% bonus? 15% tiered and 20% bonus?

    • No, it is separate. You either be on tier bonus if you transfer from partners, or you get 20% from flybuy and ANZ

    • No only 20%. I just did the transfer

  • -1

shame they can't take my frequent flyer points…. wouldn't that be nice, having the two companies compete.

  • +2

There is no inclusion for transfer from Westpac altitude 🙁

    • I've been quietly sitting on my Westpac points until the next transfer bonus…

  • +3

Again no CBA Credit Cards. What the heck!

    • +1

Yeh whats going on with Commonwealth bank. Never seems to be included in these bonus points deals anymore.

      • +1

Guess who's footing the bill for CBA removing their 'other atm' fees…

Change to another bank, those guys milk you dry.

    • +1

They are too busy with the APRA report

  • -1

Damn, I transferred about 80000 ANZ rewards points a few weeks ago. FML.

  • I have 533000 flybuy points is it good to transfer now?

Edit. Maybe it's still better to do keep it in flybuys

    • +1

Yeah it is. Given the 138k cap has been removed.

    • How did you score that much? I would wait until late day of the month :-)

      • Dog food.

  • +3

I just transferred a wodge of flybuys across with this. My feeling though - based on this promo, along with the fact that the program is 35% externally owned by Affinity Equity - is there will be a devaluation on velocity points in 12 mths :(

    • Then use those points nooooowwwww.

  • +1

CBA is not on the list again!

  • MEH. I was expecting more.

  • +2

    ANZ Booster bonus as well:

    https://anzrewards.com/public/info.aspx?name=velocity_may_20…

For the month of May, when you redeem your ANZ Reward Points for Velocity Points,
you could be eligible for a 50% points bonus*

    1. Velocity 20% Frequent Flyer Offer: The Velocity Frequent Flyer bonus is available for every successful manual redemption or Auto-Redemption of ANZ Reward Points for Velocity Points made from 01 May 2018 to 31 May 2018. It can take up to 5 business days for these Velocity Points to appear in the Velocity Membership Account.

    2. ANZ 30% Booster Offer: The ANZ Booster Offer is available for every successful manual redemption or Auto-Redemption of ANZ Reward Points to Velocity Points made from 01 May 2018 to 31 May 2018. It can take up to 5 business days for these Velocity Points to appear in the Velocity Membership Account.

    • So for ANZ rewards transfers you get:

      1. 15-40% based on number of points (standard deal)
      2. 20% bonus for ANZ, flybuys, etc from Velocity
      3. 30% bonus booster from ANZ

Is this right? I feel like I am reading it wrong.

      • ANZ doesn't get the tiered points

        • Ahh ok, that makes sense. Although kinda misleading to advertise a 40% bonus then say "Plus, if you transfer from ANZ…" you get 20% bonus points.

Should really say "Or, if you transfer from ANZ, …"

  • Hey guys, Ive been saving my rewards points on my citibank rewards and looks like the balance is just over 250k = 100k of velocity points. I have no plans to cash in the velocity points so is it a good idea to transfer now and let it sit in my velocity account or will i start losing points if i don't use them?

    • Firstly, from 1 June 2016 your Velocity Points will not expire provided you earn or redeem Points at least once every 24 months. Previously, the expiry period was 36 months. Any Points earned from eligible activity prior to 1 June 2016 are not affected by this change and will not expire for 36 months.

*if you don’t need to fly Virgin to earn points. Many ways.

    • Citibank is offering a further 20% bonus Velocity Points. Not very well publicised. I transferred over 100,001 Velocity points and got 20% more from this promotion and another 20% from Citi Booster. So a total of 40% bonus Velocity Points (40,000). Sweet deal!

You can earn up to 60% bonus points (i.e. 40% + 20% Citi Booster) if you transfer more points. See the various tiers here: https://www.citibank.com.au/velocity/

Points arrived in my Velocity account in 2 business days (though they say 28 days). Following day, I booked my return Etihad flights to Europe for the end of June (peak season, school holidays). I was amazed that seats were available so close to the departure date, and there were several other options available to other European cities too for 150,000 Velocity points return + taxes of about $450 (or the equivalent in points). I paid the taxes on my Amex to activate the free Travel Insurance.

  • So if I was to transfer 100,001 amex gateway reward points to velocity (at 4:3), would that equate to a bonus 15% or 20% velocity points? At first look I assumed 20%, but at a closer look it appears that I'd only be transferring 75,000 velocity points which would be a 15% bonus

    Edit: Confirmed 15%

  • Been a long time oz-bargainer, but new to the world of frequent flyer points.
I have 108669 Flybuys points.. equivalent to $543 if i convert to coles gift cards.

From what I understand, I get 20% bonus points if I transfer them as my Velocity points… I will get 130402 points.
If I sell them at a going rate of $0.01, I will have $1304 cash in hand rather than coles gift card.

    Am I missing something ?

    • The rate isn't 1:1, if I'm not wrong, you'll get about 56500

      https://www.flybuys.com.au/collect#/partners/velocity-freque…

      • Thanks for your response.

I now know what I was missing.

        2000 points = $10 flybuys dollars/Coles gift card
$8.7 if I transfer to velocity and sell on classifies.

I don't usually redeem the points for flights.

        • +1

remember that selling on classifieds is against the rule and if you are caught you'll get banned or worse.

        • @serpserpserp:

If you're selling the points with no need for Velocity points in the future, you're not the one running the risk. You get cash and the buyer is the one that potentially has their account closed/points forfeited. I haven't heard of anyone being chased up by Velocity/Qantas for reimbursement of those points they've given to someone else - would be happy to be proven otherwise!

  • Hasn't the best bonus been 20% for point transfer of less than 100k?

  • just wondering - for flybuys where we have under 100k points (I have just under 50k) is this 20% a decent bonus? Has there been 25% or higher for this level in the past?? Or should I Just take the chance to boost my velocity now?

Someone above mentioned devaluation of the points? Have they devalued points (velocity) redemption wise after tempting people to top upt heir points? Or all speculation?

NEver transferred so not sure if this is best to do now, i'd plan to use it in 1-2 yrs on the honey moon (have no idea what airlines im flying hence just changing flybuys and thinking of holding onto my amex plat edge points inside the amex program until we know which airlines we are flying).
