Highlights the value of the recent s8 fnf deal

Compared to the S8/Pixel XL 2 deals this is an extra $480 for an S9 with an extra 10GB per month data over the life of the plan and you have to give it back at the end.. I don't see how this is a deal tbh.

If you have to have the S9 this seems like a better deal

      • Agree.. it might be a bit more worthwhile is it was the "plus" model. Although I never really understood the whole purpose of the "Lease" even when I was working for Telstra. Makes no sense especially when professionals and businesses usually claim 100% on standard plans/repayments options for tax anyway.

        • ?????

The ability to swap out at anytime for a new phone,
The fact that they have the phone covered for loss theft and damage. (Smash a screen or the back of an iPhone and you'll see)
          New for Old
The lease has heaps of advantages for some.
Professionals and businesses are suppose to depreciate the phone as its an asset. (I know most don't)

        • @ilostnemo: Anyone been audited for this? (Claiming the phone cost as an expense rather than depreciating it)

        • @fredblogs: Depends on the plan. If the plan composition is $60 total, $60 plan and $0 phone then it is possible to claim it fully. Most high end plans are done in that way.

        • @ilostnemo: Even if you do depreciate the phone as an asset - how? You actually don't fully "own" the phone until it is paid off. Arguably, each month's payments are under $300 at a time. So it is calculated as individual expenses on a particular service. Could be wrong - but happy if some qualified accountant can clarify it.

  • Link just takes you to Telstra homepage where you don't see any special deal?

now if they didn’t charge for data share sims each month this would be attractive, last time i asked it was $5 per months so $60per year.

optus still do the data share sims for one off $5, so it’s a nice to have in ipad and in a modem for the laptop. tethering off the phone kills that batteries.

    • Nope they don't do data share for $15 one off anymore. You have to at least buy a $15 data sim.

    • Optus do a month share sim As well on certain plans

  • Likely hood of Telstra letting me buy out my current contract and taking them up on this?

    • for new customers and port-ins only.

Literally look at the success rate in previous F&F deals.
They are cracking down on this so you'll have to buy out your contract, port out, wait a day/month/three months/cricket match in order to be classed as a 'port in'

Anything for S9+? Also link goes to the main website

    • As stated in above post may not be available online

  • Is this the same $79 deal they were supposed to be retiring in March/April?
    Linked (must download PDF)

So… how do you find this on the Telstra site…
Telstra webchat sais not available online?

    • A Telstra store rep told me they do not typically put F&F offers on their website because they are only for port-in customers, and would possibly alienate the current customers (who would be ineligible).

  • I thought this deal would have been more popular than is seems.

Myself and many others won’t go near a lease plan. No doubt they have their market but I’d rather own the device and just sell it whenever I want or go off contract at the end of the plan.

      • Yes. At the end of the contract, you can keep the phone as a backup or give it to family member. These lease plans are more suitable for business.

  • Does anyone actually have a link to this deal?
