Hand-Painted Watercolour Watches 20% off (from $60) + Postage @ Mayflower Watches

84

Hi everyone,

Before I begin,

Yes I know that there are cheaper watches available, yes these are fashion watches and yes I know that the cheapest option is not completely hand-painted, but what you are paying for is the care and effort that went into painting and hand-finishing these images.

I am pleased to be launching Mayflower Watches featuring a range of watercolour painting faces. Each design has been painted by myself and is available as a hand-finished, high quality print on watercolour paper as watch faces. There is also a completely custom option where you can select one of the designs or make your own which will be completely painted by hand.

For the first week, I am offering 20% off all watches and there is free postage when you spend over $99.

Be gentle professionals of OzBargain :)

    So this is to buy a picture of a watch ?

    • +2

      …ahem, what our friend JV is trying to say is that you have not provided a link to the product that you are selling.

      • I downloaded it and it didn't ask me to pay.

      • +1

        I've now uploaded it to my Aldi 3-D printer…

        Should be ready in about 3 hours…

        • +2

          If only you had a watch to time that 3 hours ;p

      • +3

        friend JV

        Username checks out.

    • Ooops, I must be a thief because I just printed the picture of the watch without paying for it.

      • Colour or B&W ?

      • +1

        I cut it out and taped it to my wrist.

        • Wear it in good health :)

    • As much as I would like to charge $60 for a picture of a watch, I'm pleased to inform you that it is an actual watch that you can purchase.
      I was too focused on getting the picture to appear that I neglected to think about the link

  • As expected, no mercy.

    The face of the watch has been replaced with a hand-finished print.

    I shall update the link now.

    • HOW do we get the 20% off ??

      • -1

        The 20% off has been automatically applied. Following the link you will see that the regular price of $75 has been crossed out and is currently $60. after next monday, the prices will go up to $75

        • The 20% off has been automatically applied.

          No it hasn't.

          $60 is your normal price

          Your post title says 20% off.

        • Following the link you will see that the regular price of $75 has been crossed out

          We all know that is a fake price cross out…

        • +4

          You've been selling these for $60 from at least back in March

          https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:jNZsR3…

          This are not discounted

          This is just SPAM !!!

        • -1

          @jv:

          Considering that I have only begun selling them since Monday, I can tell you that $60 is not going to be the normal price.

          It may have been listed as such for a little while whilst I was working on the website and securing stock, however, I can assure you that come tuesday next week, they will be selling for $75

        • +2

          @quietsarcasm:

          Considering that I hgave only begun selling them since Monday

          Sure google cache is lying then ??? Or are you ???

          https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:jNZsR3…

        • @jv:

          The website may have been live, but it is only since Monday that I have begun selling

        • +1

          @quietsarcasm:

          The website may have been live,

          Oh… The website was live but you weren't selling…

          Yes, we believe you…

        • @jv:

          The website was live in order to receive feedback. And fair enough if you don't believe me, not much I can or will do to convince you otherwise

        • +1

          @quietsarcasm:

          but it is only since Monday that I have begun selling

          From this other cache, your shopping cart was clearly active on your website since early April…

        • +3

          @quietsarcasm:

          Also, since you admit you've never sold it for $75, but displaying this as a cross-out price, your are displaying deceptive and misleading price comparisons which is against the law according to the ACCC.

        • +1

          @jv:

          Well I'm not going to leave it until the last minute to make sure it all works now am I?

        • @jv:

          It was the logical way I had to display an introductory offer

        • +1

          @quietsarcasm:

          It was the logical misleading and illegal way I had to display an introductory offer

          fixed…

        • +2

          @quietsarcasm:

          Statements such as 'Was $150/Now $100' or '$150 Now $100' are likely to be misleading if products have not been sold at the specified 'before' or 'strike through' prices in a reasonable period immediately before the sale commences.

          Happy to take your suggestions on how to convey it

          They're not my suggestions.

          It's Australian Consumer Law

          If you are running a business, you are expected to follow the law. Aren't you registered with ASIC ???

        • @jv:

          I was refering to suggestions on conveying that for this week the prices are 20% lower than they will be come next tuesday

        • @quietsarcasm:

          So what you are saying is that you are advertising a price increase and not a bargain since I've shown above that you had these down for $60 for at least 2 months now…

        • -1

          @jv:

          I'm through arguing with you on this. Enjoy your sense of satisfaction.

          I have requested the deal taken down

        • -1

          @quietsarcasm:

          Enjoy your sense of satisfaction.

          Nothing to do with satisfaction.

          It is about "Truth, Justice and the OzBargain Way…"

        • +3

          @quietsarcasm:

          I have requested the deal taken down

          It's not a bargain anyway… So no loss for us…

        • +1

          @quietsarcasm: Could call it an introductory price instead.

        • -3

          @jv:

          Give it a break man - they've made clear they're launching, so there's an implication it's an introductory offer anyway. Don't assume any claim under the ACL will succeed, not that anyone would bother.

        • @TheGhostWhoWalks:

          Don't assume any claim under the ACL will succeed

          Don't assume it wont…

          It's obvious that the normal price is $60… To suggest it's discounted 20% is BS

        • +1

          @ccsvchost:

          Could call it an introductory price instead.

          Could, but don't put a fictitious strike through price and claim it's reduced

        • @jv: Yes they should change that, but you've trashed the post with all your bold face. They've been a member for years. This isn't a Matte Black post…

        • -1

          @TheGhostWhoWalks:

          Yes they should change that, but you've trashed the post with all your bold face.

          The bold face is being displayed by your browser, not me…

        • +1

          @jv: You bold faced by bold face, or at least issued the instruction to the web server that my web browser takes its orders from. Yeah, that makes sense.

        • +2

          @quietsarcasm:
          Good luck with your new venture. Don’t be put off by the likes of jv. We understand these are early days, Hopefully the watchmasters like pjc and watchnerd will one day highlight your watches in the future.

        • @TheGhostWhoWalks:

          at least issued the instruction to the web server that my web browser takes its orders from.

          get a web browser that is more assertive then…

        • +1

          @jv: Have you been hitting the Aldi port again jv?

        • @bennybaubles:

          Nope, made my own…

        • @TheGhostWhoWalks:

          I don't understand. I don't understand the obsession with Matte Black.

        • @bennybaubles: Consider Nos. 10, 12 and 13 at 68 WENGER Watches

        • @PJC:

          I understand.
          I understand the obsession with Matte Black.

          Well at least you've resisted suggesting how i should vote.

        • @jv: Amen!

  • +1

    Not that the product interested me, but, thanks jv for the headsup.

  • They look cute, especially the Supine.

  • Any picture of the watches in real life?

  • Agree! If it was pay week I would probably get the Ardent https://www.mayflowerwatches.com/product-page/ardent-38

  • +4

    These are basic quartz fashion watches that would cost $10.00 or less to buy on Aliexpress with a different dial.

    And the title is misleading as it gives the impression they are hand painted, but the description says -

    high quality print on watercolour paper as watch faces

    Also stating that the lens is "scratch resistant mineral crystal" would suggest that it has some kind of coating on it. Is this true?

    • I didn't even notice that. Has OP clarified? Hand painted or printed?

      • +2

        No it's been 10 hours so negging to highlight major issues with the deal as stated above.

        Also for this kind of money or less you can buy a something from a reputable watch making brand like Timex -
        Timex Weekender 38mm US$28.73 + $8.76 = $37.49 (~AU$50.00)
        Timex Easy Reader 25mm US$24.86 + $8.70 = $33.56 (~AU$45.00)
        Don't forget you can use a parcel pick up point and save US$1.00.
        These have indiglo as well.

    • +1

      They do make clear under 'process' that they're prints, though saying 'hand finished, printed dial' is a little confusing.

  • +3

    Negging due to major issue with vendor. Misleading statements about price from Associated OP.

  • Maybe you should update the description to say introductory price rather than 20% off. 20% off what? What's the basis?

  • +3

    OP this …

    Hand-finished prints are made from paintings that have been done by our artists

    … is not that …

    Each design has been painted by myself

    … furthermore this wording …

    Water resistant at 30 meters

    … implies to uninformed shoppers your watches may survive a depth they must never be anywhere near.

    • -2

      He is 'our artists' - i don't have a problem with that.

      He also makes clear that Like most watches, Mayflower watches will resist some water, but it is best to try to avoid any contact with water.. That looks pretty up-front to me. People are usually aware that 30m or 50m or 3ATM 'water resistance' just means splash-proof, and he's not Robinson Crusoe in assuming that.

      But yes, his site needs improvement (hardly a surprise given he's just launched) - in terms of being clear and consistent as to whether the faces themselves are painted, and that it's an introductory offer (not a discount). Everything else is just nitpicking.

  • +1

    Ignoring the comments above, the CG watch images look cheap

    Best to include some real examples of the watch and since there isn't a single real picture looks like "vaporware" so to speak

    There is no 20% off and lots of misleading statements which makes it much worse

  • While the OP may be using basic quartz fashion watches as their base, there is some real value-add here that i think many posters are discounting.

    Artists are always looking at how to get their work out there - and hopefully in a way that will pay for their watercolours - and i think it's pretty impressive what the OP is doing. The works seem accomplished, and it really does bring colour to the watches.

    Yes their website needs improving as i've set out above, but it's otherwise pretty clean. Not too much fluff, and they're ultimately clear about what they're selling as long as you poke around.

    There's labour in creating the original work, and in then producing the prints. That costs money, and is worth paying for. They will be well worth the $60 to some people, and can especially work well as a gift given there's a measure of uniqueness about them. The Matte Black's of this world can't claim any of that.

    I'm with @bennybaubles.

    If you want a minimalist style watch from a reputable watch making brand, most of the Timex watches ship to Aus at the moment from Amazon.
    The Timex Weekender's cost less than $60.00 shipped and come with Indiglo.

    Also these watches are still available -
    Burei Black or Silver Dial Dress Watch (Seiko Auto) US$52.17 (~AU$69.50) Shipped @ Amazon

  • Movement: Seiko AL32A quartz

    That movement is also found in this watch costing $10.50 Shipped.
