Wow that is cheap. Aside from the lack of NFC and B28 (Which I discovered I need in my area) the phone runs extremely well.

    • +1

plus it is accepts micro SD cards so you can upgrade the memory.

  • is this better than note x4?

    • I think it is

      • +1

        Cam better but battery not

  • +7

Bring 'Redmi Note 5 Pro' on ….

    • +2

      I know right! 4gb/64gb under $300 plz

    • Too big screen. Even 5.5" looks ugly. 5" is ideal but unfortunately only super expensive phones seem to have 5".

  • A steal.

    • +1

Then it shouldn't cost anything… Just saying.

      • +3

        Username checks out…

        • +2

          Checks what out?

        • +2

@homersimpson: I think it's some kind of running gag going on here at OzBargain. A reference to getting bikies to help in a situation is another long-running gag.

        • +2

          @TransportPosters: it's from reddit

  • +4

    Great deal.

I don't think it's actually a Xiaomi store though is it? Just made to look that way?

    • +1

      Ahh, I think you're correct - i've amended the description…

  • is battery good for long term gaming?

    • No it isn't. It's a 3080 mAh battery which isn't bad, bit more that a full days medium use (not gaming), but it's not know for great battery life. Redmi series has ~4000mAh battery.

  • +6

I'm extremely happy with this phone. Bit late to the party i'm sure, but I've been extremely happy with it! Slick, smooth, efficient, and the battery life is great. Completely whoops my HTC M9

…even if I just paid $225 for it like 2 months ago!

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Just got one.

  • I know I'll be told to check the specs of this phone (and I did), but still couldn't figure out if this 32gb model would have expandable memory option? And if so, does it use the sim 2 tray for memory card or is that a separate tray for it? If anyone has this phone, could someone please advise? Thanks in advance.

    • +5

Xiaomi almost always has 2 slots for either SIM or microSD. so, if you need dual sims, no SD.

      • Thanks James

Seriously best thing since the nexus line was discontinued. Personally can't wait for the m1a2. Hoping for a better camera n processor. Perfect example of an android done well. Slick, competent n affordable

    • +2

I went from a Nexus 4 (yeah kept that phone for a long time) to this. I don't think I can ever leave stock Android now.

      • The Nexus 4 has NFC though … perhaps a sidegrade ;-)

        • +1

Not if you want 4G. This A1 is missing B28 but the Nexus 4 missed the whole 4G wagon.

If it wasn't for that omission for my use in my area I would have kept using my Nexus 4 a lot longer than I did,

really liked the simplicity of software and function with a still nice screen for today's standards for that size.

        • @ozhunter68:
Nexus 4 was awesome! My favorite phone still - even though runtime was appalling, had to charge twice a day. Later, when i started playing Ingress i just had a battery pack strapped to it constantly :D

  • +3

If they whacked a decent camera and NFC on one of these, I'd buy it without hesitation. Even if it were $100 more expensive.

    • +1

    • I think a lot of people would if they included NFC. Chances are they won't in the next one either. They tend to not include them possibly due to the reduction of the flagship phones if they included NFC to the budget phones.

    • look up the Mi Note 3

      • +2

Or Sharp Aquos S2: better screen, dual camera, B28 & NFC.

        Was/is $210 Joybuy.

        • +1

But not Android One, so most people here are off that one

        • Sharp phones aren't popular yet (+ no Android One), so I wouldn't go for it unless I want to be a Guinea pig.

        • No headphone jack, though— right? Why do they do this?

  • +1

Great phone, but not convinced this deal is particularly good.

I'd wait for another 10% off everything on Ebay and then buy the 64GB version here: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/401416061780

Very fast shipping. I got it after 3 days, delivered on a Sunday by DHL!

    • +3

Cheapest it's ever been recorded on Ozbargain but not a very good deal…. OK got it!

This better then - get it for $237 with Free Express shipping here https://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/xiaomi-mi-a1-dual-s…

      • Exactly, that's what I paid on Ebay with 10% off.

By the time you add the DHL to this deal you pay AUD 215. Who's sacrificing 32GB to save $22? I sure as hell wouldn't.

The reason I picked Ebay over Eglobal when I bought was the local warranty, no idea whether that will be worth anything if I need it, but feels nice to have.

So yeah, this deal might be the best price ever on the 32GB version of this phone, but given the minimal price difference to the 64GB version, it is not a good deal from my perspective.

  • The Asus ZenFone Max Pro is the new midrange 👑

    • That does look pretty awesome running stock 8.1 with Treble support… Pity about it still lacking B28 but that's a nice deal.

      • +1

        It does have B28! 😀 FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 18, 19, 26, 28)

        • +1

Oh awesome!! I must have looked at version A on gsmarena. I'm tempted for sure now, as a bonus you can use 2x sim cards plus an SD card at the same time it looks like. Finally I've got something that ticks all the boxes when my Nexus 5 dies :)

        • +1

@Alzori: Rumours are that the 6GB version will have NFC when released as well (It's already getting better cameras.)

    • Not Android One, though.

    • any idea when this phone comes out?

    • where can you buy it thO?

    • But unfortunately non-existent as yet.

  • +1

I've got one of these. Be careful if you get a glass screen protector as the screen is slightly curved and you will end up with raised edges…

Also these usb-c cables are still on sale https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/372951

  • …Waiting for Mi Max 2 price to drop lower than it did ($250 is lowest I've seen, now $300+)… Just wanted to say it in case….

    • +1

$278 on eGlobal with Free Express shipping running at the moment

      • Thank you. I thought it would have dropped below 250 by now.
I may eventually cave in…just holding out for now.
I'll do some research on eglobal..

        • +1

The Mi Max 3 is meant to be released this month. So you can likely get a slightly better deal in the coming months.

        • @phil1311:
So that's good news for me.
          Thank you

    • $161.11US was the cheapest

      • Don't know how I missed that. Its an incredible price for an amazing phone.
Who was selling it & how long ago, do you recall?

        • Gearbest, singles day

        • They only had like ten devices at that prices…

  • Great phone for dad

    • What about you kids?

  • The absence of B28 makes this pointless for anyone living outside latte land. The fact is it not an AU-based reseller also means no ACL protection for the buyer. :/

  • So why exactly are we preferring this phone over note 5 pro and mi mix 2(if in case we can spend 400) ?

Also can someone tell me what is the cheapest nfc phone in the market atm?

    • +6

      Android One/stock android

  • How is the camera/battery life for this phone / what are the alternative mobiles in this price range if those are my two most important criteria?

  • A dollar cheaper for gold here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Global-Version-Xiaomi-Mi-A1-…

With also black available for $2 more :)

  • Thanks. Grabbed 5% CR of $9.63. Installed the app and grabbed another $4US credit. Total comes back at $183.65
