Stuffed up International Flight First and Middle Name Booking

Hi guys

Made a booking last night on Skyscanner the ticket is now issued but the ticket reads MiddleNameFirstName LastName

Is this going to be an issue for an international flight Qantas to Auckland?

What did skyscanner or Qantas say when you called them?

To ask ozb of course, silly!

Qantas wouldn't give out any information as OP name did not agree with their booking details "Mr MiddleNameFirstName LastName".

  • i honestly think that flights between OZ & NZ should not be classified as "International"

yes thats make lots of sense. criminal checks should be abolished too,

      • +8

all their criminals are here already so makes sense.

And we can't send them back :(

          Can't we just send Barnaby?

    Yes.

ring up the skyscanner or the airline, take 5 minutes to fix.

an airline mispelled my name when they book a ticket to russia over the phone, i did not realise till at the airport, and i was denied.

    • an airline mispelled my name

I think that may be the difference, the mistake was by the airline. They usually have penalties in place to amend booking details for mistakes made by the customer.

name needs to match name on passport

    Domestic: I wouldn't panic.
    International: You've got a problem.

    • Back when we had paper tickets (with those greasy red carbon copies) some 25 years ago, I had a ticket from London > Durban > Perth and they had my middle initial as "R" instead of "J" (only initials of middle names were listed).

I contacted the travel agent (yes we still used those back then) but they said it would be fine (they didn't want to pay for a ticket reissue at their expense because they got it wrong) and naive me listened to them.

Got stopped at the ticket counter because the ticket didn't match the passport and spent 30 minutes trying to talk my way onto the plane. Finally managed to sweet talk my way on.

Same problem for the second leg, but I proved they let me on in London, so got away with it again.

In this day and age with so much extra security, etc, there is no way I could have gotten away with it.

So tl;dr, yes I agree, they have a problem!

  • It needs to be in the same order

The question is, on the confirmation from sky scanner did you enter the details wrong or is it their stuff up?

  • Screw up airline booking - ask on Ozbargain - logic makes sense to me.

  • i didn't know skyscanner made airline bookings.

Not if you are a 12 year old runaway.

  • As it's not an actual name change Qantas should fix it up for free. I've been able to do it with an int'l flight with another airline.

  • Buy a new ticket in the name as it exactly matches your passport, or start swimming.

Name change takes approximately 4 weeks Mr LastName.

    • And then pay for a new passport with the changed name!!

  • Call Qantas

They said to ask Australia's foremost bargains community.

      • Whirlpool?

  • Just legally change your name

    • Thanks. This seems to be the most prominent response. Proceeding to change my name.

I'm fairly sure this is how some tickets get printed through old booking systems. Try managing your booking on qantas website and confirm what it says there.

  • Have had something similar happen. Took quite a few calls to Qantas to fix. They wouldn't let me fly internationally until it was fixed. My ticket was reissued eventually without penalty.

  • Depends how you filled in the booking form

No it won't be a problem if you aren't really interested in taking your flight.
