$5 Per Month for 1 Movie Ticket Per Month, $7 for 2 Tickets Per Month (Billed Annually) (+ $10 Activation Fee) @ Sinemia

WinterSaleWatchCinemaWatchDeadpoolFamilySale

Looks like they've just launched in Australia but not much info about it yet. Currently supported cinemas are severely lacking in all major cities at the moment, no idea if that's just because they haven't added more yet. Does anyone have any more info?

Edit: I bit the bullet and signed up. I'm hoping that it would be easy to cancel if they don't add more cinemas given that their whole motto is "Any cinema, any time".

Edit 2: There are a lot more participating cinemas in the app compared to those on the site. Almost all the major ones from what I can see, more info in the comments.

Edit 3: Make sure you enter the coupon to see the pricing. The website does not always automatically apply it, sometimes the correct pricing isn't even displayed. Try again later if it's not. If (high) pricing exists for multiple days, mark expired.

22/6 Mod note: See this comment. Warning that users are being told to pay a $4.99 - $9.99 fee to be able to use the service immediately (despite the annual fee having been already paid).

31/7: Activation fee reported to be $10 in all cases.

  • @strahany I avoid that by making a new paypal account just for sinemia. Dont add any other payment method but sinemia CC.

Just tried to book at ticket at Village and the paypal option is gone! anyone else? this is via pc/windows site not mobile.

    • I’m having that issue on mobile trying to book at village, no paypal option!

      • They seem to be updating the site. Paypal is back with a new payment system/look.

Sinemia response when I queried the reason for the account closure : We will not be able to discuss this any further. If there is anything else, we'll be happy to assist.

I will initiate a merchant chargeback.

I've spoken to a lawyer in the US who may be initiating a class action. I'll keep you posted.

I noticed they sent an email to all existing card users telling them that the cards will now be obsolete but they would be deferred from having to pay processing fees till the end of their contract.

Sent an email asking them the logic behind "So you've suspended my account for failing to agree to the processing fee, which you've now agreed shouldn't be paid by card users in the first place, but because I've disputed the error you made with my bank, you won't accept fault and give me the service I've paid for?". Ridiculous.

Also, there's a hack I've found that's handy if you're wanting to buy tickets for 2 people.

Use the FakeGPS app, set the location to your nearby cinema, purchase a ticket for a session tomorrow, tell Sinemia you're purchasing a ticket for today's screening, check in. Purchase second ticket the next day with correct screening details.

Sure it relies on the second seat being next to you, or that there's space to move around if need be, but works for those situations where you don't want to use all your tickets in that month, and don't use it with a second person enough to justify a couples membership.

Similarly, I'm wondering how it would go with an Unlimited plan, where you might be content seeing one movie a week, but kept buying tickets for your friends each day (especially if the film release is ages in advance), or even just buying tickets for $1.80 each because you wanted the rewards points or to give as gifts to friends.

  • Just adding to my comment above (but with important information so didn't want it hidden as a reply).

PayPal will commence "Payment Agreements" with Village Cinemas without your authorisation

The tl;dr of the story is that the SINEMIA card details failed and, instead giving me the option to re-attempt the purchase, it automatically charged it to my bank account. As mentioned in that comment, the only solution PayPal provided was to ask my bank to cancel the payment.

My bank could not cancel the payment, so I instead closed the account and opened a new one, to prevent any overdraft. As a result, the payment has failed and PayPal has today charged my alternative credit card which is no longer tied to the account as I removed it immediately after this fiasco started.

I called PayPal today, and they told me that I authorised a payment agreement with Village Cinemas despite never doing any such thing. I have activated countless payment agreements in 7+ years of using PayPal, and no such agreement page was ever part of the checkout process. Both the PayPal representative, and their supervisor told me that I accepted this Payment Agreement (calling me a liar, or stupid, just not directly) and that this is "not PayPal's problem" (direct quote) since they didn't authorise the agreement and said agreement is accepted to on the merchant's website. This is despite the fact that their systems have apparently authorised Village (and other merchants) to enact such Payment Agreements without our permission (ergo, it is their problem) and that the payment process occurs on a PayPal URL (again, their problem).

I've been trying to work out how this may have happened, and I suspect it might be tied to Village's "new look" checkout process. I made my original transaction on the evening of the 27th of October and it used the "new look" payment process. I then began a new check out process to re-purchase the tickets with the correct funding source (as I was expecting to be have this issue resolved quickly and still wanted to see the movie - laughable in hindsight), however this attempted check out process was with the "old look" and there was no PayPal option - only credit cards - so I didn't go ahead with the re-purchase. It is at this time that other commenters here noted PayPal was also down for them (until the 28th, seemingly).

I suspect that Village may have been testing their "new look" checkout, or trying to begin the roll out, and for some reason the page where any such Payment Agreement is accepted was skipped in some way. I completed the transaction on mobile, which has never been problematic before (both with respect to Village, and accepting Payment Agreements). Or, at least, I hope that this is the reason that the Payment Agreement page was skipped, otherwise Village/PayPal are enacting these agreements without our permission.

Ultimately, I have started the process for a chargeback. PayPal have not been helpful, whatsoever, and refuse to accept any responsibility for this. We pay fees to credit card companies (or, at least, merchants pay them) and in return we get protection such as chargebacks. But PayPal receive equal (or higher) cuts of the transaction, but told me there was "nothing we can do" (another direct quote). I'm going to be getting my money back either way, but the fact that it had to get to this point is extremely disappointing.

    • I had a somewhat similar issue in the past when buying an Optus movie rewards ticket through PayPal. For some reason the payment screen didn't give me the option to choose the payment method and defaulted to debiting my bank account. My issue was that I didn't authorise direct debits to PayPal from my bank account. I worked out that there was a bug in the PayPal system where you could decline the direct debit agreement but it would still allow direct debits. I even replicated the issue with screenshots, but PayPal refused to acknowledge my issue and asserted that their terms and conditions meant that they could debit my bank account. I notified them that this is in breach of the BECS Regulations but basically they didn't give a shit. I made a complaint to FOS but that didn't really go anywhere.

  • I have noticed the same.

After making ticket booking and then checking Paypal.

I noticed something different in the Paypal Activity summary:

Old bookings showed: Village Cinemas Australia Pty Ltd - Payment

But the new booking showed as:

Village Cinemas Australia Pty Ltd - Pre-Approved Payment

    Or

Village Cinemas Australia Pty Ltd - Automatic Payment

It reminded me on the old subscription based pre approved reoccurring payments which I never liked.

I went into Paypal Settings / Manage automatic payments which showed:
Village Cinemas Australia Pty Ltd - Status: Active

I deactivated it and now Status is Inactive :)

Lucky for me the Sinemia card was charged and the automatic pre-approved payment was set to it…

Paypal "Choose your preferred way to pay online" I set to PayPal balance instead of CC.

This way if there is 0 Paypal balance it will ask you for alternative payment option but if CC is selected it will charge that card without asking you…

Best to use a separate Paypal account for Sinemia bookings

I know there's been a lot of problems for people with Sinemia but I just wanted to post to say that I finally signed up, after months of being intrigued but worried it wouldn't work at all, and I booked my first movie for tomorrow with no problem at all! I know later on maybe I'll find problems, and I'm waiting to find out about potential extra fees per ticket, but right now I'm just blown away that it actually worked.

I live in Bendigo and we have a cinema that's part of Village but it's not a traditional 'Village Cinema.' And it's a cinema that doesn't let you pay with PayPal (which seems to be the go-to method for most here). Because of all that, I was thinking Sinemia probably would just plain not work, but to my surprise, at least so far, all is good!

Tomorrow is my first movie. That'll be when we really see if it works for me and how…

    • Let us know how it goes. Don't forget to check in at the cinema otherwise Sinemia will bill your credit card.

      • It worked. I went and saw Bohemian Rhapsody without any issue. And so far I'm seeing no extra fee charge or anything.

Within the week I'll aim to see Halloween and something else. I'll report back on how that goes. What I signed up for was 3 movies for $9.

        • Nice work. The charging is when you purchase the ticket it tells you that they will bill you $1.8. Worth checking your bank statement just in case. If you buy the ticket at the cinema then you don't get the fee but not sure how that works to be honest.

Out of interest, how do you buy the ticket? Everyone who has tried without paypal gets declined. Is it just the normal CC payment that you add your virtual card to? What address do you use?

          • @Savitar: I was using my bank statement to check and so far no extra charge.

But anyhow, things have taken a turn! I just tried to to book my second ticket and I find that, yes, they now give me a message about the fee but also that I can't purchase a ticket this time around - I get an error on the Village website saying there's something wrong with my card.

I'm gonna give it another try in two hours, when hopefully I get new credit card details from Sinemia. And if it doesn't work then, I will give up and try to get my money back for the whole thing.

EDIT: And yes, the first ticket I just purchased through the normal credit card option. It didn't ask for an address - just my name, email and phone number. I gave my real name as the contact. And then for the credit card details I filled it out with the details Sinemia gave - including the 'SiNEMiA' as the credit card holder's name. The first time it worked. The second time it got rejected.

            • @garworsby: And I tried to book the same movie session again, two hours later with a new 'advance ticket' and new 'credit card' and still it doesn't work. So sad! After the first one worked so easily I thought everything was gonna be great! Now though it feels like there's no hope for this to work.

              • @garworsby: You can just cancel the advanced ticket and try again, you don't have to wait 2 hours. That way you can get LOTS of new cards one after the other.

If you know the people at the cinema they can key the CC details directly into a CC machine and that WILL work. The problem is convincing them that this is a legitimate card to use. A few people have managed to get it to work that way. Or if they offer phone booking, its the same thing. Just tell them on the phone that its in your name (as they don't need a name for an over the phone booking)

                • @Savitar: "You can just cancel the advanced ticket and try again, you don't have to wait 2 hours. That way you can get LOTS of new cards one after the other."

I can't see any option for that, neither on the iOS app or through the desktop site. The whole thing is very confusing to me at times though - maybe I'm just missing something.

Perhaps this is part of the problem: when I get an advance ticket, it claims I can find the credit card details again for the next two hours by just going to the 'Planning' section but when I go there it just gives me the option to book another ticket - nothing about any outstanding 'advance tickets.' The only way I've been able to keep credit card details handy is by taking a screenshot. And the only way I can tell that I've used a ticket is by the desktop site telling me I have X number remaining.

Thanks for the other suggestions but neither of those are things I'd be willing to do. That would make this more trouble than it's worth to me.

                  • @garworsby: Agreed its a bit of a hassle if Paypal it not an option. When I have put in an advanced ticket before there was an option to cancel it when I went back into advanced ticket so not sure why that would not appear (but I have not tried that for some time).

                    • @Savitar: The 'cancel advance ticket' option now shows in the 'Planning' section. This might be because of yesterday's app update. But it seems like it only lets you cancel one ticket per day. The second time I tried it it gave an error saying there's a "cancellation limit."

But anyway, I've decided I've had enough of Sinemia. I've tried to book a screening maybe 8 times now - 8 different Sinemia credit cards - and every single one is rejected. I contacted my bank and they said I can lodge a dispute in about 4 more days and so that's what I'll do, presuming Sinemia themselves are not going to respond to my refund request.

                      • +1

@garworsby: And I continue this conversation! I'm not sure if anyone is still interested, or if any of this is of worth to anyone, but I emailed Sinemia about my problem and they actually replied! Multiple times they've replied! I'm really surprised because I'd seen a lot of people say they get no email response, that Twitter is your only hope for a response. When I wrote to them, I just did it as a formality, so that I could tell my bank later that I wrote to them. I thought there was no way they'd reply.

But anyway, I've been in a back-and-forth with this guy today, about 10 emails exchanged between us, and he says now that they're making adjustments to my account (possibly based on the price of tickets at my local cinema and the requested screenshot I gave of the order page) and that I should try again to purchase a ticket in 1 - 2 days. So that gives me new hope now. Maybe it still wont work in 2 days but I'm feeling a lot better about things now anyway.

                        • @garworsby: Thanks for the update @garworsby

                        • @garworsby: Good luck, let us know how it goes….

                          • +1

                            @Savitar: And… it still doesn't work!

I asked them to then accept that Sinemia doesn't work at my local cinema and that, for me, Sinemia does not work as advertised and seemingly never will work and they replied:

"We can issue refund for you as an exception after deducting the price of the tickets used or you may keep using it on different theaters."

The nearest 'big chain' cinema is over an hour away, so that doesn't work. And I never would've paid full price for a movie ticket, and paid an online booking fee on top of that, so being charged that cost doesn't work for me either.

Is there any precedent for arguing with them and getting a full refund? I'm thinking I should just ignore them, cancel my account, and then seek a refund from my bank. If I argue with them, it feels like I'll risk having them refund my money minus the ticket cost and it'll confuse matters with the bank. What do people suggest?

Overall, I tell you, I'm not really mad here. Usually I get all crazy and worked up over this kind of thing, to lose even just a small amount of money to some crap service, but I guess I'm just kind of satisfied here to have finally tried it and understood that it's crap and it doesn't work. It was kind of eating away at me all these past months, thinking maybe I'm missing out on cheap movies for the short time before it all goes bust. And at the same time, I guess I feel pretty confident I'll get my money back here, one way or another…

                            • +1

@garworsby: I've decided to just go through my bank. I replied to Sinemia but their responses just continue to be moronic, where they think I'm gonna eat the full price of a movie ticket just because they don't want to. I can't see my bank siding with them but we'll see in time…

                              • @garworsby: That's a pitty….BUt with one choice and no paypal, it was a crap shoot at best…

                              • +3

@garworsby: And the exciting conclusion to my story, if anyone's still reading, is that I got all my money back by doing a chargeback through my bank. It was all pretty simple. I just had to write one email explaining the situation and that was all - no debate or need to go to special effort. I got back the cardless activation fee, the monthly fee, the whole lot.

                                • @garworsby: @garworsby That is absolutely fantastic conclusion to your Sinemia experience

Well done on not giving up!!

  • 'Login Denied' error when trying to log-in on Sinemia app..
Has anyone had a similar issue? It seems that they have banned my account…
What should I do now?? :((

    • Worked perfectly for me today. I would say hit them up on Twitter, that is the fastest response for most people.

This service would be so much better if we had physical cards and no booking fees. Anyone tried charge back with a CBA Mastercard? I spent so much time booking my ticket swapping cards today that its started to annoy me.

    • +1

Instead of the ridiculous virtual card activation fee they should have offered physical cards for an extra fee…

    • The annoying part is that every time you cancel to swap cards it will charge a booking fee again and again…

  • Just heard a reply from Sinemia saying they have deactivated my account because of violation of terms… only thing I could think of is my partner and I use the same phone to log in to our accounts.. :(. Is there a way still for me to get my money back from the account that's deactivated? Has anyone came across the same before?… smh :/

So many complaints about sinemia, this post is more a personal appreciation post.

I've been with them since may, I was actually about to post the original ozbargain post. But OP beat me to it by minutes,

But I agree with some stuff that’s being said, yes, it's annoying to not get a card, and to now get charged processing fees, But in the end, the savings are just too great.

Im on 2 movies a month Couple plan, so that means i get 4 total tickets a month, I've watched 12 different movies already which would normally have cost $540 (2 Adult tickets with eventcinemas is about $45ish including booking fee),

But with sinemia, i've only paid about $300 for the 12 months upfront, even if i add the $7.2 fee each month for the remaining time, that's only an extra $50.4 on fees, but by the end of my plan, i would have watched about $1080 worth of movies for only $350 including process fees.

I had initial teething issues but after working out the Australian Paypal method and event cinemas having now updated their system to accept the Sinemia card. i've have nothing but a great experience.

But, guess im a lucky one.

    • I to have seen the ups and downs with using this service (although i did jump onboard just after they stopped issuing cards) and while it has had its issues, things are improving. I was able to pay via VCC direct with Village Cinemas yesterday since they have updated their website payment system which i haven't been able to do for over 3 months (first time it worked and have used Paypal method ever since). Imax Melbourne works everytime with direct VCC details. I have paid for my subscription already so everything for the next 8 months is free! And i'm accruing Village Rewards points!

      • It’s the same with eventcinemas. I’ve been earning points and I’ve already accumulated enough to get 2 gold class tickets. And with the rest of my plan. I’ll get another 2 or 3 gold class. I Really can’t complain about the extra processing charge.

    • I am 100% with you. I have been on for about the same time and seen lots of great movies. There are some annoying features and new costs but for an average of $5 per ticket (including blockbusters on Saturday night should I choose) there really is no comparison.

      Wow,a WHOLE TWO PEOPLE suing…..

On Friday, the law firm Chimicles & Tikellis LLP filed a class action lawsuit in Delaware on behalf of two plaintiffs

You can't keep everyone happy every time…

      • "Wow,a WHOLE TWO PEOPLE suing….."

I'm not all that familiar with things like this, so everything I'm saying here could be 100% wrong, but with a 'class action' lawsuit I believe those two people represent a group. Those two people will provide a testimony that is believed to represent a larger group that have been wronged in the exact same way. So they're not just a couple of guys suing to get back $50 each or whatever.

And as to who is in this larger group, it may actually be you and people like you. I don't think you have to agree to be part of it. And depending on the outcome of it, you may later benefit in that you receive a refund for fees paid (though probably not, if it's just a US thing, who knows…). I believe I've had that happen to me before, where one day my Playstation Network wallet had an extra $5.23 or whatever in it because of the outcome of some lawsuit I'd never heard of before.

On the one hand it seems petty and silly to me, like you should just try to get your money back and move on with your life. But on the other hand, it is pretty insane that people signed up for a whole year at a certain cost and then partway through the year were hit with new costs that they were forced to agree to or otherwise the service they paid for would no longer work. And then to offer no satisfying refund option for those unhappy with the increased cost. It's like, why put up with that? Still, to go to all this effort…

      • Such snark.

Check the Sinemia subreddit. There are hundreds of people getting in on this.

        • -1

Correct. I am a little sick of all the people complaining about $1.8. But then again, its up to everyone what is important to them

For example, the average house price in OZ is around $800K, given a 4% interest rate that is $32,000PA in interest. Banks change rates ALL the time, that could cost you THOUSANDS a year in interest. Banks make BILLIONS. Yet people are coming on here and posting post after post about $1.8. Honestly, I just don't get it….

But, to be PERFECTLY clear, everyone can do what every they way, sue whomever they like and get upset at what every they want. I just don't get it.

          • +3

@Savitar: Because it's only $1.80 if you're only seeing one movie a year. It also goes up to $3.60 after you've seen 5 movies a month on the unlimited plan.

3 movies x 12 months a year = an extra $64.80 surcharge on a standard subscription. And it's clear that basic business sales laws are ignored by them, so what's to stop them making it $2.80 next? That they've changed the terms and conditions retrospectively?

If the plan was $1.80 per movie more when I signed up, would not have cared one bit. It's the fact that they've blatantly tried to cover it up by altering the T&C's, and lied to credit card companies seeking a chargeback that it was agreed to at the time.

But yes, I shouldn't be upset about this because well, Jack The Ripper, 9/11, Full House being cancelled…..

  • I just checked my Sinemia account and it says I'm now on the elite plan (2 tickets per month) without upgrading or signing up to it. They've removed the Classic plan of 2 tickets per month (the one I was on initially).

    • Same just checked my account and my classic 1 movie per month for 2 has been upgraded to elite. Not sure why

      • Yours shouldn't have changed as its still available as a plan, interesting. Just make sure your not charges if this is a backend issue!

    • Yeah looks like that option isn't available anymore. Classic x 1, Classic x 3, Movie a day, Elite x 2, and Elite x 3. Changes a plenty. Did you prepay for 12mths on the old plan or were you on month to month? Did you get billed extra?

      • +1

I prepaid for 12 months, with my plan starting in June this year. I messaged Sinemia on Twitter to check if there any extra charges. Will report back when they replied

    • +1

I wouldn't be too worried, sounds like just a glitch.

My classic 3 tickets plan is also stating elite on the website but the app is still correctly only allowing me to select 2D.

      • +1

Yeah you're right. They confirmed I was still on Classic 2 tickets a month.

  • Anyone's sinemia paypal suddenly asking for mobile verification? Seems like I'm now locked out and may have to make a new one.

    • I'm guessing you're using an Australian paypal account for Sinemia, is that right?

      • Nah, it was a US paypal I made specifically for Sinemia. Used this method for more than 10 movies but it's stopped working suddenly.

    • Yes, I have a US paypal and it asked for mobile verification but I just chose, not now and it skipped it and was all good, I booked to see Crimes of Grindewald yeaterday no problems.

had an issue with IMAX melbourne where the payment would decline when paying for premium (gold class style) tickets where it worked the previous month. Now it only lets you purchase regular 3d imax tickets. Anyone else come across this?

  • So my Sinemia account just got activated yesterday after waiting for two weeks. Tried to use it this arvo but when I used the card details given in the app, it got declined on the event cinemas website. So I cancelled the first ticket and tried again with different payment details to another declined screen on the event cinemas website. After that I wasn't able to cancel the advance ticket and had to check in to avoid having to pay for the ticket (according to the app). I emailed the support address and tweeted at them. Any advice on how to do this in the future? Should I sign in to cinebuzz first and try it that way? Pretty disappointed that this happened the first time even trying the service.

Have you tried using the AU Paypal method? It always for me and others here.

You'll need to make an Australian Paypal account.

      (Found steps below on reddit):

      • I tried using PayPal but I wasn't using the American address so it was getting declined. I'll try this out in the next few days. Thanks heaps!

        • If that doesn't work, I have been using a US paypal account for about 6 months and never had a decline. The method is :

Here are the steps I followed. Paypal is the key here.

          Create a new Gmail account
          - Don't put in a phone number as if you do you need to verify it.

          Create a new paypal account
          - When creating the new account, put in the address details as
925 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90038
          - don't put a phone number in as you will need to verify the text, which you will not be able to. Its not mandatory
          - Put in your new Gmail account details as per above (I recommend this as it means you can keep this completely separate to your daily transfers)

Go to hoyts and find a movie you want to see, note down the time

Go to your Sinemia app and select "Advance purchase"

Put in the details of the movie and get your temporary payment information

Log into your paypal account and link a new card with the details above

To back to the hoyts website and proceed through to payment

Select the paypal payment type, log in with your new paypal account and pay.

          • @Savitar: I've tried both of these methods now and still doesn't work. "Card is already attached to another Paypal account". And they still charged me $1.80! Here's hoping I can get a refund from them.

            • @Theycott: This happens sometimes, people forget to remove the card from their PayPal account after they use it.

If you cancel your ticket and start again you'll get assigned a new card number.

              • @twadds: Yeah I did this but I can only cancel the ticket once. When I try a second time it says I've cancelled as many times I can for the day. Both VC's i tried today were both already linked to other Paypal accounts. It's frustrating because I love the idea of this service yet it just doesn't work for me unfortunately.

                • @Theycott: Very unfortunate. I have never had a decline so must just be luck of the draw. Ping them on Twitter, you normally get a response back within a few hours.

                • +1

@Theycott: If you didn't realise, the VC expires after two hours if you don't book a ticket. You wont be able to cancel more than once in a day but you will get new card details every two hours if you don't book a ticket. So you could try booking a ticket a few days in advance and just try every two hours to see if you can ever get it to work… That's what I did for about three ridiculous days, trying unsuccessfully to get it to work.

I think if you check your bank account online after the two hours, you'll also see that the $1.80 charge disappears. That's how it was for me, anyway.

Good luck in your efforts. I couldn't get it to work. I didn't have the PayPal option though. I managed to book just one ticket through the regular credit card payment option and then after that it just didn't work at all, even after several days of trying. I'm currently in the middle of trying to get my money back through my bank because Sinemia refused to give a full refund since I managed to book the one ticket. Even though they're a service for booking tickets at a reduced price, when I asked for a refund they thought it made sense to charge me the full ticket price and booking fee for the one movie ticket I booked and then to give me what little remained after that…

                  • @garworsby: Ah okay, good to know. I'm still not convinced on it though seeing as that requires me to know exactly which session I want to go to days in advance. Most of the time I just want to be able to just go see a movie but the whole rigmarole just doesn't seem worth it imo. I'm hoping that due to the fact that I haven't been able to book a single ticket through them is grounds enough for a refund. I haven't received any word back from them yet but I have filed a chargeback with my bank so hopefully that'll work for me.

  • Is anyone else getting this error: "Your card has been declined by your card provider. Please try a different card or contact your card provider." when adding Sinemia cards to PayPal. This is a recent error (appeared last week), I have been able to get around all other errors using advice from here and reddit. I have not been able to find a workaround, error started with US PayPal account, next day the error shows up in AU PayPal account.

    • That hasn't happened to me and I'm guessing you've tried multiple Sinemia Credit cards in AU Paypal ?

    • yes just got this error now. seems every month I'm getting closer and closer to a chargeback on my sinemia membership.

edit: I tried the card in my AU paypal (which I never used with sinemia cards before, have used US paypal for months) and it worked. so maybe a new paypal is required for those that get your error.

  • Just tried purchasing tickets for tonight. When I went to add the Sinemia card in PayPal it tells me that card is already linked to another PayPal account. When I tried another Sinemia card that had been saved in my PayPal from a prior use it tells me the card is expired. Sinemia has also charged me for the processing fee even before the ticket was finalised. I don't want to cancel the ticket on Sinemia and try again in case they don't refund the original processing fee and charge me again. I've sent Sinemia support an email to ask them for a new card number, but given their crappy customer service history I am sceptical I'll get an answer before my movie tonight, and tonight's the last night I can see the movie before my monthly ticket expire. Has anyone had experience with this that can help?

The fact that you've left a card saved in paypal means you're part of the problem! Remove that card!

      • I've done that and found success the new card number that generated after 2 hours. Also removed this card that worked. They charged me again for processing fee though so let's see if they would return one.

        • yes I have found the fees get refunded for every cancellation you do. once i had to cancel 6-7 times because some w@nkers hadn't removed the card from their paypal accounts so couldn't register it in mine to make a booking. anyway I got refunded the fees for all the cancellations.

          • @FeZZa21: How long did you have to wait before the refunds appeared? And how long ago did you cancel 6-7 times?
People recently have stated that they can only cancel twice in one day.

            • @MovielandDom: I believe it was last month and took a few days to clear out since they were in pending state on my amex

Found this on reddit. People received an email from Sinemia and it looks promising for the future.

"Hey! There have been a lot of complaints I had about Sinemia and now I can say I’m fully satisfied if everything in this email I received stays true to its word. To everyone who made an effort to get these changes, you’re all the MVP.

Fantastic. Dedicated cards and dedicated virtual cards for on-line. If they actually do this in OZ this will eliminate all the payment issues and we can get back to our movie watching. Plus, no more $1.80 processing fee if you just get your ticket right at the cinema so all the chargebacks and be avoided. Win, win win…

  • Does anyone know if I can combine two standard tickets into one premium ticket if the price was less than two standard tixs in total? Eg two normal hoyts into a lux if I have optus perks?

Not sure how sinemia would figure out if I complete transaction via American PayPal

  • I encountered a new error/issue yesterday.

Successfully added the card to PayPal and attempted to purchase the ticket through Event Cinemas whilst logged in to Cinebuzz but when it redirected back to Event from PayPal it had an error of PayPal failing to process, please use another payment method.

It however went through fine after I logged out of cinebuzz and manually entered the cinebuzz card number rather than logging in.

  • ANother new error………..Your card was declined by the issuing bank. Please try a different card or contact your card issuer with questions.

I've been using Paypal no problems but this morning got this error and couldn't cancel as I had already cancelled a booking due to someone not clearing their linked card on Paypal

    • i got same problem, did you get a fix?

      • No, and sinemia response was crap seeing I wanted to go to Event cinemas and it was the last day of my ticket cycle, will have to wait and see if I'm charged ….. In order to solve this issue completely, can you please try using a different ticket-selling website and to purchase your tickets more smoothly, can you please try waiting 10-15 minutes after generating your One-time payment information, then go to your ticket-selling website to complete your purchase? It may take a few minutes to your one-time payment to be activated.

        Thanks in advance.

    • I had the same error in the exact same situation. Couldn't buy the ticket so I went without. About 5 hrs later, I received a notification that my VCC was cancelled because it had been 2hrs without purchase. Thankfully no $1.80 charge on my credit card.

      • I had a similar error, tried Aussie PayPal but couldn't add the VCC as the credit card needs to be confirmed first. Tried creating a new US PayPal account to add the VCC but it now requires a US mobile number or phone. So no way for me to add the VCC to my PayPal account. The dedicated VCC or physical card can't come soon enough

Event cinemas normally works without needing PayPal. Occasionally it doesn't work and I have contacted them each time it hasn't. Recieved a response today advising to wait 20 minutes after generating a card. I am yet to have tried this, but it may help to wait before purchase. Not sure if it will help with any of the PayPal odors but may be worth a shot.

There are been reports on reddit where users in America were able to purchase a physical membership card for $15. They found it under the "membership" section when logging into Sinemia on PC. I just tried but couldn't find it.

Just an update: I asked Sinemia support on Twitter about physical card and they said Physical card is only US at this stage. They're working towards bringing it here

    • What should I do for this?On 06/14/2018 at Event Cinemas - Burwood, we see that you have made an advance ticket purchase by confirming the rules of your Sinemia membership. You can examine the rules that you have approved in detail from the link below.
      https://www.sinemia.com/app/contents/online-ticket-details
The system detected that you have not performed your check-in process by using the Sinemia mobile application at the time and date of the advance ticket.
According to Sinemia terms and conditions, Sinemia card misuse fee has to be charged from your card. Your Sinemia membership has been canceled by the system because your card information is not available or your Sinemia card misuse fee can not be collected from your card.

  • Trying to book at village. Paypal and normal CC are both being declined :(

    • I tried yesterday, it was working.

      • It worked about an hour later.

    • Yep, same problem here with Event Cinemas.

      • Of course, they've still decided to charge me the $1.80 booking fee though.

      • If you tried to book while logged in to a cinebuzz account, try logging out.

        That worked for me.

  • I booked a ticked for the weekend(8th)so I wouldnt miss good seats at imax but want to watch a film on Thursday, anything I can do to let the app do that?
