$5 Per Month for 1 Movie Ticket Per Month, $7 for 2 Tickets Per Month (Billed Annually) (+ $10 Activation Fee) @ Sinemia

1446
WinterSaleWatchCinemaWatchDeadpoolFamilySale

Looks like they've just launched in Australia but not much info about it yet. Currently supported cinemas are severely lacking in all major cities at the moment, no idea if that's just because they haven't added more yet. Does anyone have any more info?

Edit: I bit the bullet and signed up. I'm hoping that it would be easy to cancel if they don't add more cinemas given that their whole motto is "Any cinema, any time".

Edit 2: There are a lot more participating cinemas in the app compared to those on the site. Almost all the major ones from what I can see, more info in the comments.

Edit 3: Make sure you enter the coupon to see the pricing. The website does not always automatically apply it, sometimes the correct pricing isn't even displayed. Try again later if it's not. If (high) pricing exists for multiple days, mark expired.

22/6 Mod note: See this comment. Warning that users are being told to pay a $4.99 - $9.99 fee to be able to use the service immediately (despite the annual fee having been already paid).

31/7: Activation fee reported to be $10 in all cases.

        • @stockastics: Great, glad you got it going…

        • @Savitar: yea mate. needed 6-7 attempts to get new prepaid cards..ppl don't seem to remove from paypal once they finish. Anyways, 2 movies in 2 months- misuses is happy..

  • Hi all, does anyone know if they actually cancel your account or charge you the ticket if you don't check in? I have not once checked in before but just saw the new messages for the first time

    • New messages?

      • Apologies…clarification: an app update came to my phone that showed messages warning when booking that a check in is required or the ticket could be charged to your CC. I hadn't seen them previously.

        • +2

Yes, they will charge your CC if you don't check in for the movie. Now, that is what they say they will do but I have never actually heard anyone say they have been charged as most contact them on twitter and tell them. Keep an eye on your CC and see if they bill you for the price of the ticket.

You really should check in, takes about 30 seconds….that way you are safe…

  • +1

Quick update (not that anyone asked) but I keep being able to use Sinemia without any issues. Watched "The Meg" last night at Hoyts. Simple booking following the US paypal method and now flawless checking means this process is working well…

    • I can't even hear the name of that movie without giggling.. always makes me think of this!
      https://m.imgur.com/gallery/ihRN1HL

    • I have also used my membership for the 5th time now (2.5mths into annual subscription) and i booked MI:Fallout at Hoyts and used my Paypal AU account and added the temp VCC details. First VCC didn't work as it said it was associated with another account so i cancelled the advanced ticket and tried again with a new VCC via Paypal AU and all worked fine. Check-in also worked flawlessly! I have now paid for my annual membership after 5 visits. :>

    • Thanks - given the reports of issues on reddit and moviepass' demise, this is useful to know.

      • +1

As long as you know what method to use with each cinema website e.g. PayPal with Hoyts and Temp VCC, IMAX direct VCC, Village direct VCC or PayPal with temp VCC, then your set. Would be great if ALL cinemia websites just accepted the VCC but thems the breaks. Definitely worth it for the extra effort.

  • I keep wanting to sign up for this but it's a struggle to pull the trigger. I'm real torn up about it. A minute ago I was just about to complete the sign up, I was partway through putting in my credit card number, and then I just stopped and left the page. I just got this bad feeling like not only will it not work but that it'll be a real problem for me getting a refund and I'll come away from this feeling all beaten up and knocked about. But at the same time I'm thinking about how great life would be if it really does work…

I posted earlier about this but I'm in Bendigo. Essentially there's only one cinema here where Sinemia might work. (And it this information adds anything, it's called Bendigo Cinemas and it's part of Village Cinemas but it doesn't participate in V-Rewards or act like a real Village Cinema). If it doesn't work there, I've got absolutely no other way of using it. And when I go to book tickets with this cinema, there's no PayPal option, so I just gotta pray that the Sinemia CC is accepted. But from all the past comments, it sounds like there's only a very small chance of that working…

So what do I do? Someone encourage me or something. Guide me here. How likely do you think it is that this will all work out swell for me?

    • The cheapest option is $58 ($4x12 months plus $10 activation fee, unless you want to wait two weeks and hope for free activation), and it's working for some users (now including me, after an activation debacle), so just try it out and be prepared to lose the $58. Savitar has posted detailed instructions. If you need to ask for a refund, they never respond to email but reply to Twitter reasonably quickly.

  • Thinking about signing up for this, probably on the $8/month family plan. But this activation debacle and the issues with paypal worry me. The activation fee sounds like a scam that I'm not paying for.

    • You can choose not to pay activation fee, which means you'll just need to wait for two weeks or so.

    • It's a scam in the sense that it's not disclosed before you sign up and they happily take your money before asking for it. Just factor an extra $10 into the cost of the service (and be generally wary of the dodgy business practices of this outfit). If you use the service every single time you have a ticket available (and on elite plans, make sure you use VMAX on the first of every billing month so that you don't lose out due to the 30 day timeout), you will still come out on top.

      • "make sure you use VMAX on the first of every billing month so that you don't lose out due to the 30 day timeout)" Can you explain this abit more?

        • See this link.

        • @josho9:
So the 1 premium ticket is not 1 per a billing month but per 30days- if you use a premium ticket towards the end of your billing months your sortof screwed for the following month(or 30 days) even tho the ticket count resets? Thats bs if I've got that right.

        • @gogo1234: Yes, exactly. Note that 3D is not premium, all of your tickets on an elite plan can be 3D.

        • @josho9:
          ok, thanks for the info.

  • +2

    They've updated the fee.

$19.99 if you buy one month. No fee if you buy a year in advance

    • It's worth it. Since if they go out of business you would lose your prepayment. I wish I could have paid done it like that already paid my annual membership.

  • -1

Did anyone notice when entering the new VCC details in Paypal it asks for First name and Lastname? It is auto-filled with your first and Last name. I just left it as that and it went through. Not sure if I should have changed it.

      theyre coming for you now

      • The name on the card is Sinemia so it shouldn't be my name or did I do something wrong?

It just seems like a scam
Does the same with Village Cinemas - No Luck here yet

        • It not a scam bro ,I have booked many times.

Follow the instructions posted MANY times in this thread. Works EVERY time…

@Savitar: I have booked a couple of time but on Sunday it didnt worked.

        • +1

@agam2104: I have used it 6 times in 3 months and worked EVERY single time. Re-read the instructions and follow them EXACTLY. new email, new paypal, all the details exactly how its stated and see if that works.

  • Would advance screenings be covered in the Sinemia classic plan (it will be in 2D traditional) ? Has anyone booked a ticket for an advance screening before in Hoyts or Village ?

    • Should be fine as long as you're paying the standard admission price.

    • Sinemia doesn't really know anything about the screening that you are booking. You just have to check in at the cinema at the correct time. Provided the advance screening is not more expensive, it should not cause any issues.

  • Just an update, I've just booked my second movie with Sinemia for Village Cinemas. The second time was a breeze since I've learnt the hard way the first time. It is through PayPal, just link the card, and off you go.

  • I just tried to book a ticket, 2nd ticket I've used since signing up. Using advance ticket option for tomorrow and now it says there is a "processing fee", $0.99 every time you book a ticket now, anyone else get this?

    • Where does it say this?

      • After the confirm screen in the planning tab of the app: advance tickets-choose cinema-choose day/time-confirm screen=Processing fee screen

    • Can confirm I have received the same, been a member since April.

  • Same, just received a message about a .99c processing fee which is stupid as there is no other way of buying tickets other than online!!

  • The op should be updated. Its still cheap for me, $6(instead of $5before processing fee)per movie which is usually $20+ but they cant keep adding bs fee's after we have agreed to a certain plan/conditions!

  • +1

My credit card charges an international Transaction fee so it won't be 0.99c this is BS though. Should have booked the ticket on Monday. I had a bad feeling about updating the app.

    • I sent them a message via Twitter and just got this bs answer -
Sinemia covers the cost of your movie ticket. Everytime you purchase a ticket online using your Sinemia plan there are transaction fees imposed by the payment processors. Sinemia may reflect these processing fees to your payment method on file if such fees are involved. Currently the processing fee for online purchases is USD 0.99/ AUD 0.99
Sinemia turned into cardless service and we do not provide physical cards currently. Please let us know if you need assistance about anything else.

      • I block international payment on my card and enable them for 15mins when I need something from overseas. I don't like the idea of Sinemia making random charges on my card. Now I have a 0.99 transaction pending. I can't see any international transaction charges yet but they are coming most likely.

Edit: I think the international transaction fee is only 3% and no flat fee of a few $. Most merchants charge a flat fee say 30c + 0.0X% of transaction fees. I don't think it's a good idea to charge everytime someone makes a transaction. They should just raise prices by $1 per movie on plans. I would still buy. it

      • +1

So roughly translated : We use to offer cards to people but that cost money so we stopped. Now we only offer virtual cards and you can only really use them to purchase on line and that ended up costing us more. We could not think of a way that makes us money so we are going to go against what we said and sold you and charge you more because, well, why would we want to pay when you all will….

      • +1

This is plainly ridiculous and these people should be shut down for not honouring contracts.

  • What if you go back to the previous sinemia app version or will it still charge the .99c processing fee ?

    • Can you try and let us know. I think the new update a couple of days ago added this "feature".

      • +1

I just booked tickets for this Sunday @ Village Cinema via iPhone Sinemia app older version…

So far No extra charges on CC

Lets hope it does not show up a few days later on CC statement :)

        • It asks you to accept those charges in the app. You can press no to cancel. If it didn't ask you don't pay.

  • Another Update today. Did anyone download it?

  • I am scared of downloading any updates from Sinemia now!

  • Their new app change log is always:

    "WHAT’S NEW
    Bug fixes."

Couldn't be more detailed about the changes in their new app update…

If the older version of the app is working without the processing fee then don't bother updating :)

  • Is there any way to move to the older version of the app

Not sure if you have to per se, but I did to be sure.

Looks like the processing fee has been revised from .99 dollars to 2.99 dollars

    • Damn. Try downloading the old version and see if it goes back to free.

Any way to download an older version on an iPhone? Mine says a $1.99 charge

  • First time user here so I found all the post here very helpful.

For anyone new, I used Sinemia successfully yesterday (Friday 14-Sep-18) at Village Glen Waverley (VIC) by following talwntmyj post which is as follows:

    "talentmyj on 08/06/2018 - 08:58
Hope my experience can help others. I succussfully used paypal to pay the tickets on Village website
Problems I met and how did I fix:
    1. When adding the card, it says details not match.
Put 925 N La Brea Ave Los Angeles, CA 90038 in address line 1. the rest can be austrlia suburb and state.
    2. When adding the card, it says has been added to another paypal account.
Cancel this one and request another virtual card in advanced ticket
    3. Do not use a paypal account with nationality US or other countries(I created a new paypal account with nationality US and then added the card. It did not work)"

4.3. Sinemia may make changes to any products or services offered on the Site, or to the applicable prices for any such products or services, at any time, without prior notice. Sinemia reserves the right to change the rules of movie-going attendance and ticket availability to members at anytime. You will be notified of any changes made to the terms of service prior to your next billing cycle. Sinemia will not make any changes to your plan mid-cycle, all changes will be in affect at the start of your next billing cycle. The materials on the Site with respect to products and services may be out of date, and Sinemia makes no commitment to update the materials on the Site with respect to such products and services.

As I understand putting on a $3 booking fee is against their own T&C's. If we Paid of 12 Months doesn't our cycle end after 12 Months?

    • That's how I understood the terms and conditions too, but it doesn't seem like they care what their terms and conditions say anymore.
When I point this out to them, they just ignore that part of messages!

  • +2

Can confirm 3.2.17 version does not charge any processing fee

  • +2

I can confirm they do now charge you $1.99 AUD for "Processing fees". They say that if you buy at the cinema they don't charge (I.e. check in and then get the card) but for advanced purchases they now charge. Googling this, its actually normal for the US also so I guess this was always coming. Takes my ticket price up from around $3.66 per ticket to $5.65….still CHEAP, just not as great as it was.

Does anyone have an experience using the virtual card for purchasing directly at the cinema? I.e. show them the screen with the CC details?

    • Is there even a way to access a virtual card without going through the advance payment screen?

      • Not from what I can tell. The "processing fee" screen comes up first and basically says "You agree to pay this to use the advanced payment option"

    • Most cinemas don't accept VCC. I was refused at village cinemas because they can't key in CC number manually.

      • Thanks, that is what I assumed. Plus unless they partnered with Sinemia so know its coming, I am not sure as a person in retail I would accept someone showing me a screen with some CC details on it to key in anyway…

So I guess we are stuck with the "processing fees" for now.

What is BS is that when I started with this Village were charging $22 + booking fee. They are now charging $15 but we still have to pay the booking fee….But I guess Sinemia has to make money…

        • I think they could do it but the card on the app looks so dodgy. They thought I was trying to commit a fraud. I was trying to pay $1 for the 3D glasses to check if they will accept it. The cashier called the manager who asked me where was the physical card. I said its an app where you pay a set amount a month and you can watch 2 movies at any cinema. They basically pay for your ticket and 3D glasses using a virtual credit card that is generated for your booking. She said she wasn't aware of it and couldn't key it in. Another user earlier in the thread reported they paid at Village with the app so maybe they didn't feel comfortable doing it.

  • -1

Yeah processing fee bites, still works out very cheap though.

Does anyone know if they check individual ticket prices? I go to a cinema that does extremely cheap Monday tickets ($9.50), so I've just tried buying 3 instead of my allotted 2. In reality that's still cheaper than 2 normal adult tickets (which would go upwards of $40 on most days!). Payment went through, so I guess time to wait and see what happens next.

    • +1

I was wondering about this also.. my thoughts are that they can't determine how many tickets were purchased.

      • Yeah exactly, it'd be too much manual work for them. Only way would be for them to have a copy of the invoice, or check the cinema site themselves. I reckon they might check a small percentage of transactions and only if they seem inflated.

        • +1

I've wondered how they know what ticket(s) you buy and how to not allow certain purchase, I assume its $ value based - not allowed over a certain amount per one transaction. Tried to buy a $35.25 gold class and got rejected, I've bought $25 village vmax and $32 imax melbourne.

Whats the most someone has been allowed through?

        • @gogo1234: iMax $32 + $x.xx Booking fee?, 4DX- $30 + $1.20 Booking fee.

        • @El Grande:
Imax melb is $30+2 booking fee.

    • Not really, considering many cinemas do deals that can be cheaper
e.g. Dendy's cinema does half-price Mondays, which means its $6 for students and $7 for adults.
After the processing fee, it ends up being more expensive using Sinemia and it's also a major hassle to check-in every time.

  • $60 for 2

    • You bought two $30 tickets? are on a single ticket per day plan or family?

      • It was for 2 tix a month I think. The family plan wasn't around at that time.

  • +1

    Just a reminder:

Pay Pal work around people remember to remove cc card details after you made your ticket booking!

If not removed it will be linked to your Pay Pal account and nobody else will be able to book via the work around…

Sinemia recycles / re-uses their virtual CC numbers…

  • Unlimited plan now available for $30 a month.

    • Wow, nice!! However with $2.05 per movie "processing fees" its not actually $30 a month. See say 2 movies a week = 8 movies a month = $46 a month…Still far better value that "list price"…

      • I assume they'll figure out a workaround on the processing fees coming through on the old version of the app.

My burner account (no physical card) allows me to upgrade to it (out of device swaps too), but my normal account (with physical card) doesn't give me that option. I've still got 9 months left on both, so paying the extra doesn't appeal at this point. Other annoying point is still being capped at one film a day - benefit of two accounts is being able to see 2 in the one day. Haven't got enough time to make the most of it.

        • You can't be forced to pay the extra fee for the rest of your prepaid period. File a credit card chargeback.

        • @josho9: I would have to assume you need to do this for each transaction? So if you watched one movie a day, you would have to file a chargeback for each day? Legit question as I have never done it…

        • @Savitar: No, you'd file a chargeback for the annual fee (or whatever you paid up front) on the basis that they're refusing to provide the service promised without an extra fee. Difficult to sue them because they're not an Australian company.

        • @josho9: Sure but that means you won't be able to use Sinemia any more. Given it now costs me $5 a movie (up from $3), I am still happy…..

        • @Savitar: You're happy that they're arbitrarily extorting you? In principle, you're entitled to the deal you signed up for. So you could argue about that. But the only real recourse you have against these people is a credit card chargeback (or possibly the threat of a charge back, given they will also be hit with a $25 stripe charge back fee).

  • Is Event Cinemas Marion in Adelaide available before I sign up as the online website says only GU Filmhouse Hindley.

    • +3

I have used it there before.

  • So people who went back to the old version are not paying booking fees, right? Do I need to jailbreak to use the APK to go back to the previous version? I am using Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

    • No you dont need to jailbreak. On the site linked here theres a guide on what you have to do(make sure the setting for installing non-play store apps is on). No other version of sinemia can be installed and once installed the new(old).apk make sure to turn off atuo updates for just that app.
