Looks like they've just launched in Australia but not much info about it yet. Currently supported cinemas are severely lacking in all major cities at the moment, no idea if that's just because they haven't added more yet. Does anyone have any more info?

Edit: I bit the bullet and signed up. I'm hoping that it would be easy to cancel if they don't add more cinemas given that their whole motto is "Any cinema, any time".

Edit 2: There are a lot more participating cinemas in the app compared to those on the site. Almost all the major ones from what I can see, more info in the comments.

Edit 3: Make sure you enter the coupon to see the pricing. The website does not always automatically apply it, sometimes the correct pricing isn't even displayed. Try again later if it's not. If (high) pricing exists for multiple days, mark expired.

22/6 Mod note: See this comment. Warning that users are being told to pay a $4.99 - $9.99 fee to be able to use the service immediately (despite the annual fee having been already paid).

        • @Karlman: I went to the website, logged in and went to membership. That's weird - it says my next 2 tickets are good till the 16th of August :P so I lost 3 days.

        • @super_sayam: I had a similar thing recently when my (monthly) sub renewed - I suddenly only had 29 days in my new month instead of the usual 30. I don't mind too much, but it's weird though.

  • I've made multiple new paypal accounts but everytime I buy tickets I get the "Sorry please use a different method of paying" at Village Cinemas. I tried adding it to Australian Paypal but it says card is linked to another account.

    • You can contact them on Twitter for support and they will reply quite quickly.

    • I've had this happen to me, it says card is linked to another account. I cancelled my advance ticket and generate new one and new VCC. Then I add to AU paypal for Village.

        • Works perfectly for me. Following my method on page 8. Village once and hotys three times. Most recently last week. You MUST follow the method EXACTLY, no short cuts.

          A friend at work did it on Friday and worked perfectly with Village. This was for two tickets option….

        • Generate the VCC on the app. Go to Village website (at this stage I didn't logged on to Paypal), choose session time and seats. When it come to payment, I chose Paypal, logged on to my Australian Paypal, choose Link a Card, Add the VCC details (use my name instead of Sinemia, use Sinemia's complete address on the address section and my suburb and my postcode) and pay with it.

  • "That card has already been linked to another PayPal account. Remove the card from the other account first, or try a different card."

    Can people please remove the card from PayPal when they are done? This thing is hard enough without contacting them every time because people don't remove the card when they are done.

    Live twitter support is on @SinemiaAPP right?

    • @SinemiaAPP is the correct account.

      The card/advance booking will automatically time out after 2hours if nothing is charged to it. You'll get a new virtual card from the card pool when you re-do the advance booking.

      You can also manually cancel the advance booking for the same outcome.

      Good reminder for everyone following this post to clean their cards out though :)

        Yeah, I just cancelled and redid it. I wasn't sure if I would lose a movie though. Turns out you don't.

  • I just noticed Xtreme2D and Xtreme3D are now an option when Advanced booking at Hoyts. Do they count as your once in 30-day movies now?

    I redeemed 4DX today so I don't want to get in trouble for using 2 Elite movies in 2 days.

    • Nevermind got a reply. Xtreme format is a premium format and should be used once in 30 Days.

      • According to their previous reply Xtreme doesn't come in premium tickets.

          Xtreme didn't come as an option on the app before. Now it asks if you are booking an Xtreme Screen show and counts it as a premium ticket.

  • Was anyone asked to upload the ticket? Apparently according to twitter guys when the camera opens during check-in you are supposed to click the photo of the ticket stub. This happened to me today but I pressed back and it came up with successful check-in. I hope I don't get charged.

    • I think the original idea was to share your movie expirience via social media with photo sharing

      • I honestly think this is an old feature, or something enforced for US customers. It doesn't seem relevant here.

    WTF i thought i was paying for a monthly subscription now when i check my credit card account i come to know they charged for annual subscription . The last part of the payment is not clear . BEWARE

      Your loss, most people here have already saved their yearly subscription fee….But sure, throw your toys out of the pram, that is your choice.

    • If you are on Sinemia Elite plan then it should work.

          How much is the imax ticket? I went for a 3D show and it was $34+Booking fee and went through no problems.

    Just booked through hoyts using the usa paypal method. Didnt work the first few times but ended up working when using incognito mode on chrome.

  • I'm planning to use it in Hoyts Melbourne Central, and Village Cinemas Fountain Gate. Anyone has experience with those cinemas?

    That means I can't use it instantly. I have to wait 1-2 weeks. That's not nice. It wasn't mentioned anywhere prior to it. So beware.

          @josho9: Exactly two weeks. Bought membership on 9/7 and activated on 23/7.

    • Was the activation fee $9.99 immediately after you signed up, or did it start at $4.99 and then increase? We might need to update the deal description.

    • US or AUS Paypal? My AUS paypal account works just fine with Village when I booked a week ago.

      I just booked a session for Hoyts Chadstone and it's working.

        Card Numer - As shown in APP

        CVC - As Shown.

        It says payment was declined that means no money in the card.

        • No, it has the Paypal option on Hoyts website. It's the last tab on the various payment option. I paid via Paypal.

        • @searider: It was not showing up for me before but now it is. I clicked it and it opened which was a surprise then I thought maybe it might work by just entering the details as normal like last time and I exited it. The payment got declined and now it won't let me pay by paypal.

          I closed my paypal account which I had used to book with village cinemas as it kept giving errors. Now that I am trying to make a new one it won't let me make it without a phone number. Any tips?

        • @searider: Nevermind. New email. New Paypal. New Name and incognito window and it worked. I think they have blocked me for some reason.

  • I’ve had 4 successes using event cinemas. But I used to be able to use guest checkout on PayPal have they removed that option since?

    Also I got cinebuzz offers from Event giving me free popcorn and a free small combo for watching 4 movies in the last two months. Others may have these too!

      event cinemas via paypal works fine. I tried adding large popcorn didn't work probably because total price got too high, but removed popcorn and went through for $58 total for two.

      • I only charge SiNEMiA like $25-30 each time coz of cinebuzz and student tickets. Hmm

    a note though, when you add the temporary sinemia card to your paypal to make a booking, please remove it from paypal afterwards as a courtesy otherwise other people won't be able to add it to their paypal for their booking. it seems the app does give the same temp card to multiple people and not all are unique.

    this just happened to me, so cancelled the card and requested a new one and it worked.

    Hi, I forget to check in anyone knows what will happen?

    • You will get charged on your card. Email them and they might let you off with a warning.

      • They never respond to email, send them a message on Twitter and ask them to manually check you in.

    I checked in today and It asked me to take a photo of my ticket for 2-factor authentication. The thing is that the ticket was on my phone. Did anyone else get this lately? Also, can you request a physical stub at the cinema if you paid online?

    • Was that on Android app or Apple ios app?

    • That's odd. I never had to do that (been using it for 5 times). The latest one I checked in was yesterday(02/08/2018).

        • @josho9: Maybe Because I have used it at Imax (Melbourne), XtremeScreen (Dolby Atmos, Chadstone), 4DX (Village, Century City) and the last one at Normal Cinema at Hoyts Chadstone (recliners are standard). I have already broken even at retail and even factoring in Optus discount I am $25 away. No good movies this month though.

    • I'm using latest Android version and never been asked for picture of ticket.

  • I'm thinking about signing up for this but my local Village Cinema (Bendigo) doesn't have a PayPal option when you try to book on villagecinemas.com.au. I can see the PayPal option when I try to book a ticket at the Jam Factory, for example, but when I try to book a ticket for Bendigo it will only show credit card or VISA checkout. From the sounds of things, not having the PayPal option would make booking a Village ticket impossible?

    • It works in IMAX without PayPal.

    • I think in general most people have been unsuccessful with trying to book directly using a CC. You could probably give it a try but most likely it would not work….Are there other cinema options in Bendigo?

      • No, Bendigo Cinemas is the only option here, at least for Sinema. I'm thinking maybe I'll be a wild man and just sign up for it and hope for the best… I'm gonna give it one more week of thought first though.

    Just tried to purchase tickets on the Village website. IP banned. Can't even login to my VRewards account on my work PC (tried clicking forget password, told that it wasn't recognized).

    Logged in fine using my phone, and then using a private browsing window on my own PC.

    Reckon I've used Village website to book tickets once too.

    • Hmmm, hopefully longer. MoviePass arrangement was you can watch movie for everyday for a low amount of dollar. So in this case Sinemia are in a better position. So I hope they last longer.

    • It hasn't actually closed down, its still running but with alot more restrictions.

    • Because they bill yearly in advance it's actually a good sign for sinemia - cash infusion from transferring members. It's effectively a pyramid scheme. I would be more worried about the fall of the lira and whether they are relying on lira-denominated funding which is now inadequate.

    • Go through the last few pages of the comments. People have been posting the steps. I've watched 6 movies now with Sinemia.

  • Just to confirm, I have just booked (yet again) with Village using the US paypal method. This is the 5th movie I have booked and since setting up the paypal account it has worked flawlessly in both Village and Hoyts every time.

      • Yes, all you need to do is cancel the booking on the app and re-create a booking. It will provide you with another card to use. You can keep doing that till you get one that works…
