$5 Per Month for 1 Movie Ticket Per Month, $7 for 2 Tickets Per Month (Billed Annually) (+ $10 Activation Fee) @ Sinemia

1446
WinterSaleWatchCinemaWatchDeadpoolFamilySale

Looks like they've just launched in Australia but not much info about it yet. Currently supported cinemas are severely lacking in all major cities at the moment, no idea if that's just because they haven't added more yet. Does anyone have any more info?

Edit: I bit the bullet and signed up. I'm hoping that it would be easy to cancel if they don't add more cinemas given that their whole motto is "Any cinema, any time".

Edit 2: There are a lot more participating cinemas in the app compared to those on the site. Almost all the major ones from what I can see, more info in the comments.

Edit 3: Make sure you enter the coupon to see the pricing. The website does not always automatically apply it, sometimes the correct pricing isn't even displayed. Try again later if it's not. If (high) pricing exists for multiple days, mark expired.

22/6 Mod note: See this comment. Warning that users are being told to pay a $4.99 - $9.99 fee to be able to use the service immediately (despite the annual fee having been already paid).

31/7: Activation fee reported to be $10 in all cases.

You need to check in for the "Advance Ticket" before you can purchase your next one. Not sure how it works if you already have the card

  • I signed up when this deal was posted, tried to get tickets and failed twice a fortnight apart and both times had issues and tried to make contact with Sinemia with no success. Paid for a year in advance contacted again wanting support last week or a refund, they never mentioned the support and stated that they will give a refund which I’m waiting on. It was stated in the email response that the refund will take 5 to 10 business days for more information to contact my bank for any further assistance.

In order for this to be an acceptable service purchasing tickets shouldn’t require unmentioned work arounds of cinema websites, Sinemia appear to be adjusting as time goes but clearly they still aren’t properly prepared to offer the service they’re offering.

I can see the potential, new members can now from what we see above purchase month by month rather than a year in advance but the problems need to be properly addressed.

    • They've switched back to yearly billing.

Works fine with a little Hoyts hassle, apparently really easy to use at most other cinemas.

      • +2

watched 3 movie till now without any problem.

        • +1

Two for me. Works like a charm (now that we have it setup correctly)

        • @Savitar:

I've used my two movies for the month. One on Reading cinema, the other with Hoyts using workaround.

        • @searider: So say if i joined on the 16th of June (2 movies per month), and book 2 tickets for the month. Will they reset on the 1st of July or 16th of July (1 month after you join)?

        • @super_sayam: Try again on the 1st of July, it'll tell you if you've used your two passes. Apparently the subs with 1x premium are a rolling 30 days for premium bookings. I'm fairly certain all accounts are a rolling 30 days from card(less) activation, but we'll see or someone else may know.

The app allows you to cancel a (non-successful) booking within two hours via advance ticket. (It'll even automatically restore the ability after 2 hours if nothing is charged to the virtual card).

    • I have watched two movies with one in Hoyts and one in Imax. Hoyts first with VCC and no problem but Checkin didn't work on the buggy app. Imax had payment issues with VCC but i believe this was my fault with incorrect month but twitter support reset the VCC and i was able to purchase in less than 2hrs and checkin worked after about 4 attempts. So not silky smooth but hopefully improving for when my month resets in 3 days!

    • I complained I was billed for a year and they just cancelled my account and said refund is coming

I didn’t actually want it cancelled, seems they prefer just cutting people than offering support

      • Did you receive the refund?

  • For those who created a new paypal account did you put your own name when you set it up?

    • For me I did….

  • Cant use the card details generated in the app on village cinemas website..

Unfortunately there seems to be a problem with the payment method attempted. Be sure to check your credentials or utilise an alternate method. If issues persist, please contact your bank or make your purchase in cinema.

    • Try PayPal method

      • +1

Village and Hoyts also block connections via IP and/or email address so if they believe you are trying to book tickets with fake/stolen credit card e.g. you try too many time etc, you will be blocked even if you try with a valid real CC. You then have to ring them up to get unblocked before you can try again.

        • Or just use a VPN

        • @agam2104: With a different email address also. ;>

    • Here are the details instructions I posted earlier :

Here are the steps I followed. Paypal is the key here.

      Create a new Gmail account
      - Don't put in a phone number as if you do you need to verify it.

      Create a new paypal account
      - When creating the new account, put in the address details as
925 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90038
      - don't put a phone number in as you will need to verify the text, which you will not be able to. Its not mandatory
      - Put in your new Gmail account details as per above (I recommend this as it means you can keep this completely separate to your daily transfers)

Go to hoyts and find a movie you want to see, note down the time

Go to your Sinemia app and select "Advance purchase"

Put in the details of the movie and get your temporary payment information

Log into your paypal account and link a new card with the details above

To back to the hoyts website and proceed through to payment

Select the paypal payment type, log in with your new paypal account and pay.

And there you have it!! Your ticket will be sent to your new email address and you are good to go.

The next time you want to see a movie, you follow from step 3 onwards however in step 6, add the new card then remove the old to ensure your payment information is up to date.

Sure its a bit of a pain, but once you get it set up, there is very little more effort than what you would have to do anyway and when we finally get our physical cards you can just link that to your paypal account and you are good to go.

Let me know if you get it working also.

      • How did you bypass the phone number, though? You have provide a phone number or it won't let you create an account. For both Gmail and Paypal. I created a random Outlook email, but can't get past it for Paypal. From what I can tell it IS mandatory.

I got exactly the same as someone posted earlier, which looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/lbiyarb

        • Put a phone number in but don't verify.

        • I put it as home phone when making a paypal account and didn't need to verify

      • @Savitar Thanks, but I tried to this a T, still no good. Every payment I attempt with paypal comes back with this screen: https://imgur.com/a/5jvROxB

I've tried different movies, different cinemas, different paypal accounts, nothing works. Contacted them on twitter 4 hours ago, 1 response, asking for more details, replied… nothing back.

        • What plan did you have? Sinemia for two?

        • @searider: Personal Membership - 2 movie days/per month

        • +1

FUUUUUUUK! I finally worked this out after about 20 attempts, it should've been obvious to me.
I signed up for the 2 movie days / per month, when what I really wanted was Sinemia for two (1 movie day, 2 tix).
I was able to buy one ticket using the virtual card, and i purchased the other separately.

I want to change this to sinemia for 2, but it's $30 a month. Hardly a deal.

        • @GuniGuGu: You can just buy another membership for $6.99 a month right? Sure you have to buy movies separately but the deal is still the same….

        • @Savitar:
Good call, but won't that translates to 4 movies on seperate days?

        • @GuniGuGu:

Not quite, because you will sign up with different emails so you can book two tickets for the same session using those two emails.

  • DOES NOT WORK WITH EVENT CINEMAS! I've tried multiple ways, card only, PayPal, new PayPal with US address etc it doesn't work. Keep getting "Payment Declined" Will be contacting AMEX for a refund as their customer service has not emailed me back.

    • +1

Contact them on Twitter. They are very responsive there.

Sorry to hear you have not had any luck though. Seems quite a few people have managed to get it working but who knows with a new company like this….

    • did u get it working?

  • Tried new paypal account method -

village gold class - no luck
    village vmax - no luck
village regular ticket - successfully booked

    having sinemia premium account.

    • +2

But that is correct no? I thought Gold Class was excluded and Vmax was only for elite memberships? Yes I understand that some have been able to book gold class but their support on twitter said that it was excluded, it has probably just taken them time to implement.

      • It is funny because I signed up for something listed as Premium Plan (which doesn't exist anymore) and now I only see Classic & Elite plans. Does it mean Premium has become Classic? Does Classic only cover regular tickets sans IMAX, Gold , Lux , Vmax , XtremeScreen?

        • From memory there was only Elite and Classic. To my understanding, Classic covers only regular 2D tickets while Elite covers 3D, IMAX etc. When did you sign up for the Premium Plan?

        • @super_sayam: 9 MAY ;

The Website FAQ States - With Sinemia Classic your tickets can be used for 2D movies and with Sinemia Elite, your tickets can be used for a 2D or 3D movie and one of your tickets can be used for either of the following technologies of your choice once every 30 days : IMAX 2D, IMAX 3D, XD, Dolby Atmos, ScreenX, Dbox, or 4DX

        • +1

@edreamer46: I have the "Premium" plan, as it says in my membership but that is actually the "classic" plan to sign up for. I.e. $6.99 a month for two movies. I assume that is what you are paying therefore it would be the "Classic" plan you are signed up for….

  • The website does not work anymore. Comes up but none of the buttons work or is it just my phone.

    • +1

      Works fine for me….

    • Yes it's working again.

  • Does any one know how does 30 Day limit work to get your 'n' number of tickets?

is it that you can get your 'n' tickets, every 30 days from your membership start date?
    or
is it that a 30 day cool-off/block period start from when you buy a ticket?

    • +1

Its a rolling 30 days (I.e. 2 movies per 30 days) from the date you receive your physical card OR when you accept the use of your virtual card. So for me it was 21st of May I accepted the virtual card so it says I have used up my monthly allowance which will re-set on 22nd June….

      • This means we should be able to make the booking (use the advance ticket) as long as the movie we are booking for is for next month allocation right?

        • I don't think so actually….I think you get 30 days per month to book and use the ticket but from what I can tell it won't let you go over the month (I could be wrong though)

        • @Savitar:

You're correct. I just tested this. I tried to reserve a ticket for next month and it doesn't allow me.

      • Where does it tell you when it'll reset?

        • +1

Go to your membership details, it should be there (if you have activated your virtual card)

  • Noticed they're now offering an 8 movies a month package, but at no value ($10 per movie).

Would love to do that at a decent value rate.

    • I just jumped on their page and cant see that :

      https://www.sinemia.com/new-plans

      Where did you see it?

      • There's packages that come and go on the "Upgrade Your Plan" page once you've signed in. I can't see it now that I"ve used my entitlement for the month (the entire Upgrade Your Plan page" rather than the offer itself)

    • Wait, what? I don’t see it on their page.

  • Not able to buy premium plan..Get redirecting to homepage..

    • The website starting working again around noon :-)

      • now only annual billing..rip off?

        • how is it a rip off? Its the same deal….

        • @Savitar: not sure if the company will survive for 12 months..

        • @stockastics: Just have to cross your fingers and hope for the best

  • I'm on the latest version of the Android App and it's still showing me past movies like Rampage, Early Man etc. in the "Watch" section. Is that happening for anyone else?

    • Same for me and I am on an older version on the iPhone. I just go to "advanced" booking then you don't need to even select a movie, just a cinema and time…

      • Yeah that's what I did, probably they'll update the "Watch" section later down the track.

      • u still using the paypal method for booking?

        • Yes, I'm using Paypal to book tickets

  • Has anyone gotten cardless to work for Event cinema?

  • Im trying to use the paypal method with no luck.

Created US paypal, card adds successfully, but Hoyts will not take the payment (paypal page says use different payment method)
Created AU paypal, card doesn't add at all, then account becomes limited.

Is everyone creating US or AU paypal with the paypal trick?

    • I am having the same issue. I signed up for Elite for 2. I watched 1 movie on 14th June 4DX following paypal method. It worked eventually.

I am trying to book the second one now Jurrasic World 2D (have tried both VMax and Normal) and no luck. Create Advance Purchase and added the new vcc details in paypal - just doesn't want to accept the method.
Tried direct cc details also and same thing.

      This is for village

      • When I first booked I was already logged into my US Paypal account - Village Cinemas booking system detected it and got an error message to use a different payment method. So I logged out of Paypal from my browser and logged in via Village Cinemas when I chose a payment method, which worked for me and I was able to book the ticket.

  • paypal works for hoyts, but not for event (george st). not sure why, the cost for event was only a few dollars more. what a pain in the butt.

    • I've got paypal working for event (Miranda) twice now (four times as my partner and I both have separate sinemia memberships) Each time I've logged into my own paypal account and added the digital card with the Us postal address but my own state and postcode. Its worked we were able to book Vmax the first time. Second time we tried gold class (fail), vmax (fail), normal movie (worked).

  • -1

Why it is showing deal has been expired ,I just check offer is still valid.

  • +1

just booked tickets at Event Cinemas through the paypal method. Tickets are in the email now. I got the annual membership and paid $5 for activating cardless. Hope this helps.

    • which Event cinema was it? Was it 2d/3d/vmax? How much was your ticket?

      • Event cinemas..incredibles 2..2D

  • Just checked the pricing plans and the Classic where you get 2 tickets a month has a higher price now. Before it was $6.99, now it's $8.99

  • -2

I am at a Village Cinema and my virtual card doesn’t work. Cannot buy over the counter nor online. Tried to look for a contact number for help but there isn’t even one. Are there expecting us to send an email when we couldn’t buy ticket after lining up in a long queue?

    It’s a freaking scam

    • +2

How is it a scam if people have been using it (myself included - second month now and already got my next ticket booked), the cardless method is for advance tickets (online) only, it doesn't work for over the counter purchasing.

The workaround to using it online is to use the paypal method, The steps have been outlined a few times.

And the support is best via twitter, they've replied back to me within an hour when i've had questions.

    • No, your reading comprehension skills are just extremely poor.

  • Tried the PayPal method the first time, didn't work, what I did was turn in vpn to redirect me to us papal when I check out at hoyts or village, otherwise it directs you to paypal Australia and that's where payment gets declined.

    Such a hassle I know

  • Btw with only monthly payments available, are we limited to full pricing now? Since the discount codes expired

    • The code watchdealpool still gives old pricing 4.99 for 1 and 6.99 for 2

    • Price for 2 tickets a month has increased by $2 becoming $8.99 per month. They've also replaced Sinemia for two with family packages

  • +1

After 20+ tries at Hoyts with no success I got it working at imax Melbourne. Premium seats! Loved it!

    • I'm guessing you tried booking tickets online, is that right?

  • Discount code "FamilySale" still works.

  • Would V-Extra be covered in the Classic plan ? https://villagecinemas.com.au/movies/v-extra

    • These look like ordinary tickets with extras? So probably. Unless the showing/type is explicitly stated as a Premium ticket, we should be able to safely assume it's fine under their classic ticket.

  • +1

Woohoo, finally got it to work with the Paypal method and I'm seeing Jurassic World at Event cinemas in Vmax. Not sure if this helps anyone but I noticed in Paypal there was USD $12.97 added to the card which is around $17.50AUD. I think mine worked as I had a special CInebuzz welcome back price so whole booking was only $16.90 therefore under the amount loaded.

    • hmmm, I was able to book Hoyts ExtremsScreen on regular plan earlier this month. The value of that is more than $20. Unless they have reduced the amount loaded unto the card? Or maybe the amount vary depending on theater you choose? I don't know. Guess we'll have to see.

      • My first booking was at Village in VMAX and that worked fine but i'm on Elite plan with 2 movies per month but then i was able to book Imax Melbourne 3D non-premium seats after that.

      • I don't think they're fully aware of the variety of extreme(ly high) movie pricing in Australia, so the virtual card 'balance'/limit must be quite high.

    • How did you see an amount on the card in paypal? That seems odd, paypal shouldn't be able to read the balance of a debit card. Are you sure your paypal account didn't randomly have credit?

      • No, I opened an account under a different email especially for Sinemia and thats the balance that showed on the debit card.

  • +4

Hi everyone, I've managed to use Sinemia with paypal without any issues for my past 3 tickets, Here's my guide below :)

    Australian PayPal Sinemia Steps

    1. Enable Advance Ticket within Sinemia App and get your Temp VCC (Virtual Credit Card) Details

    2. Checkout as normal on preferred Cinema Website.

    3. Select PayPal as Payment Type

    4. Login with your Australian PayPal details

    5. Select Option to Add New Card

    6. Add the Temporary VCC Details from Sinemia App

    7. Select Add new address and use details below
      a. Address Line 1 - 925N LA Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA
      b. Address Line 2 - Blank
      c. Suburb - Your normal Suburb
      d. State - Your normal State
      e. Post Code - Your normal Post Code

    8. Finalise checkout

    9. Payment should be succesful.

    10. After successful payment, the final step is to remove the temporary card from your PayPal account, otherwise, others won’t be able to add it to their own PayPal the next time the card gets generated. To remove, just login into PayPal, and remove the Temporary VCC details from your Wallet.

    Tested working with Event Cinemas

      • Works with Hoyts, except I used a US paypal account.

      • Will try this with Village (Sinemia support recommended I use paypal).

    • This worked for me as well at Village cinemas Jam Factory. For some reason the US paypal method didn't work for me last week.

    • Worked for me at village cinemas! Thanks!

  • -1

I don't know if this is a scam or not. I sent them an email over a month ago asking whether their membership was sure to cover Australian cinemas like Village & Hoyts. I was concerned as their website is very US centric and not all Australian cinemas are listed. Also, the website & the app have different cinemas listed. They never replied. I sent a 2nd email, no reply. I sent an email to Village Cinemas Customer service asking if Sinemia was accepted there. They replied "Thank you for your email. Sinemia has no formal connection with Village Cinemas."

    • +1

You are overthinking just use it,like everyone else is doing.

    • Their Support is best via twitter.

    • It's not a scam. A lot of people, me included has manage to used it successfully. Yes, their service and system could use a lot more improvement but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a scam.
