Looks like they've just launched in Australia but not much info about it yet. Currently supported cinemas are severely lacking in all major cities at the moment, no idea if that's just because they haven't added more yet. Does anyone have any more info?

Edit: I bit the bullet and signed up. I'm hoping that it would be easy to cancel if they don't add more cinemas given that their whole motto is "Any cinema, any time".

Edit 2: There are a lot more participating cinemas in the app compared to those on the site. Almost all the major ones from what I can see, more info in the comments.

Edit 3: Make sure you enter the coupon to see the pricing. The website does not always automatically apply it, sometimes the correct pricing isn't even displayed. Try again later if it's not. If (high) pricing exists for multiple days, mark expired.

    • I tried adding the virtual card to a separate US paypal account I had (updated with Sinemai's US address) and it didn't accept the virtual card.

        Try the process above. Create a new gmail and new paypal and see if it works. Takes all of about 5-6 minutes to do both then if it works you can decide if that is worth the effort on going.

    • After creating multiple PayPal accounts and Gmail addresses and back and forth with Sinemia on twitter, I still cannot get mine to work. I have tried booking multiple times to VMAX at Event Cinemas (even using my CineBuzz member discount) which makes it 17.40 for one ticket and I keep getting "there was an error processing PayPal" Anyone have the same issue?

      • Do you create Australian paypal or US one? Seems to be the concensus is using the Paypal workaround for all major cinemas.

  • I think you all need to be careful. Remember that Sinemia reserves the right to charge your card for anything that they think shouldn't be charged to THEIR card.

    With PayPal, my statements show something like PAYPAL FOR EVENTCINEMAS or something like this, which to us is clearly a movie theatre, but almost certainly isn't an acceptable company to pay in Sinemia's "eyes".

    Remember, Sinemia has pretty bad technology, otherwise you guys wouldn't have had to resort to PayPal shenanigans in the first place.

    Hopefully their customer service figures it out before it decides to charge you guys or something :\

    • I think you are being a little over cautious here. The process for getting a ticket is to select a cinema on THEIR app, then purchasing the ticket. They know where the cinema's are when you book the ticket and you then check into the cinema on their app to confirm you are using the ticket. There is very minimal chance of them rejecting a legitimate ticket due to multiple confirmations along the way.

        Agree. I don't think Sinemia cares where the money is paid to since they don't have deals with any of the cinemas. What they ARE interested in is that you saw the movie that you said you were going to see (which is the data they're harvesting), by checking in at the cinema through their app.

  • Why is everyone actually going to the hassle of creating a paypal account? I successfully paid via PayPal last week (and told everyone so via the comments) just by using guest checkout via PayPal. They didn’t confirm the number either (I used Walmart’s phone number). Worked like a charm, no need to complicate it by creating a us paypal account and adding the card to the wallet.

    • because Event Cinemas doesn't allow Guest paypal checkout, Need to login, and when logging in with normal Australian account, you can't enter the Temporary card as it's linked to a US address.

    • This isn't helpful but maybe noteworthy, the ticket I purchased last night was Xtreme screen using the sinemia elite plan. Worked fine.

    I was able to book VMAX tickets at Event Cinemas on the standard plan (not elite). Used the Paypal method described above to checkout

  • If you cancel do you get your money back?

    • I contacted them through Twitter and they said they would offer a refund if it did not work for booking tickets. I would DM them on Twitter to find out.

  • My local Village cinemas showtimes are wrong.

    • if you are looking to book an advanced ticket you just enter the details of the booking to authorise the card then you book through the cinema's website. I.e. You go through "advanced booking" and just key in the date and time (not the movie). I have not tried direct booking at the cinema if that is what you are trying to do.

  • I am confuse. From reading it seems you can go to any cinema. Is it any hoyts or villag cinema I can go to or those listed in Melbourne city only which is quite limited ? Melbourne - Hoyts Melbourne Central ,Melbourne - IMAX Melbourne,Melbourne - Palace Kino Cinemas .Can anyone confirm you can go to any cinema ?

    • There are more cinemas listed on the apps compared to the website. I would say it's almost any cinemas.

      • Correct, look at the app. Lots and LOTS of cinema's including the smaller ones.

  • Just tried to book with Imax Melbourne for 2 x 3D tickets and it doesn't accept the virtual credit card. I have previously has success booking with Hoyts and used the VCC with the name field as Sinemia. This time i tried with Sinemia and my full name and both times it was rejected by Imax website. Can you book tickets over the phone with the VCC?

    Also the VCC on screen says you have upto 2 hrs to use it. WHat happens if im not able to use the VCC, do i still get to try and book another session later on this month?

    Also can't use the Paypal option on Imax as they don't accept Payapl. :<

    • Problem solved via Twitter support and i'm now all booked in. They reset the VCC so i got a new one and it worked!

    Hope my experience can help others. I succussfully used paypal to pay the tickets on Village website
    Problems I met and how did I fix:
    1. When adding the card, it says details not match.
    Put 925 N La Brea Ave Los Angeles, CA 90038 in address line 1. the rest can be austrlia suburb and state.
    2. When adding the card, it says has been added to another paypal account.
    Cancel this one and request another virtual card in advanced ticket
    3. Do not use a paypal account with nationality US or other countries(I created a new paypal account with nationality US and then added the card. It did not work)

    I have not checked in but i did successfully purchase the tickets.

    • Thanks mate, finally it worked for Hoyts. I used the standard membership for "Xtreme Screen" session. Check in was working fine too.

        • On the dad of the movie there will be a new option when the app opens to "Check in". But there are actually two ways, through the advanced planning option and through the main screen when it opens. Both crashed for me but I think that the advanced ticket option was the one that worked eventually.

    • I've successfully used my 2 movies for the first month. There have been no additional charges so far. The only thing to be careful is that you "check in" through the app for the movie, otherwise they may charge you the full price ticket to your credit card.

      • Oh ok, so you need to "Check in" via the app when you're at the cinema before your movie?

        • Yeah I heard , check in time is available 30mim before and 30mim after of time staring show.For ex if show is 10:00pm ,it will start 9:30pm -10:30 pm.But I don't now how to check-in someone said it will automatically pop-up when you near the cinema hall during that time.

        • @Savitar: Just did a check-in tonight, went flawlessly. Are you using 3.2.6 app? My experience with this version has been positive.

        • @searider: No, I am still on 3.2.4 on the iphone and there is no update ready at this point so hopefully they release one soon.

      • Cause I saw online that Sinemia don't cover other fees, e.g. convenience fees and concerned that we might need to pay booking fees if we book tickets online

  • Can anyone confirm how long it takes after purchasing a plan to be able to buy tickets with a virtual card? So if I buy it tonight could I book a movie in tomorrow? Seems unlikely given all the issues everyone's having…

    • Right now I think is there no issue , just folowy PayPal method mentioned here and you will be fine.

        Edit: Just booked it in, seemed to work fine using the paypal method :) just have to remember to check in tomorrow

          The check in was very dodgy for me. Crashed 4 times when trying to check in. Basically you have to select the movie you are going to see and click check in. Twice it crashed on clicking the button and twice it said "You have no advanced ticket". I just kept going back till after the 4th time there was a red bar at the top of the screen that said something like "Your ticket". I opened that and at the bottom is said I had successfully checked in. I saved a screen shot of the confirmation just in case.

          Does not fill me with confidence that their check in system is not very stable…

        • @agam2104: Well when I opened the app in the theatre there was a little check in button so I pressed in and it disappeared, so I suppose it worked. But there was no confirmation or anything and I couldn't see any way to find my booking after that to confirm the check in worked. Seems kinda dodgy like @Savitar said below although it never crashed for me. Will be watching my bank account just in case they try to charge me for it…

        • @SirBeansalot: You might want to PM them on Twitter. If you used the "advanced ticket" option you must select the movie you are seeing as part or the check in. If you were purchasing a movie at the cinema you would have been ok I think….But best cover yourself with a quick PM on Twitter (they are actually very responsive)

          First check-in attempt I received Error msg: "Error No active ticket found".

          Not sure why this error showed up as I selected the correct movie for my session to check-in.

          Exited the app, started up navigation app to lock-in my location and restarted the app to check-in again with success :)

          I think its best to click on the check-in button a couple of times till you get the in app check-in confirmation.

          Also one big problem I had at IMAX Melb is very poor 4G internet connection as it is bit underground lol

        • @LHSolutions: Actually, you don't have to be in the cinema itself. vicinity should work just fine. In your case, just outside IMAX before you go down the escalator.

    • From the FAQ, this is what consiered Premium by Sinemia :

      IMAX, IMAX 3D, XD, Dolby Atmos, ScreenX, Dbox, and 4DX are the Premium formats that can be seen once every 30 days

      ScreenX is NOT the same as Hoyt's XtremeScreen or Village's Vmax. ScreenX is multiple screen 270 degree viewing.

      So this means XtremeScreen and Vmax is considered normal screening.

  • FYI, I just tried to use the VCC to buy tickets at the counter and it worked. Tried buying the tix from HOYTS website but it kept declining the payment.

        • Nice….sounds super dodgy thought if I was the person on reception. "No please trust me, this is not my credit card and its a prepaid out of the US but please just key it in so I can see a movie" (not a go at you at all, its a dodgy process).

          Did they query the request? Or know about Simemia?

        • @Savitar: Hoyts members are already made aware of Sinemia because of the physical Credit Card which doesnt mean that we cant use the VCC

  • I asked them on twitter about the process for check-in at the theatre.

    Apparently the check in times are half hour either side of your advance booking timings. When in the theatre, click on the advance booking tab and that’ll show a list of movies, you have to click on the move you have advance booked. If you cannot see your movie in the list, scroll to the bottom where there is an option to manually type the name of your movie. When you see your movie, click on it and you will see the option to “check in” again. Click on it and you will see “Success, you have successfully checked in. Enjoy your movie”.
    This is how you successfully check in.

    I tried this last night and it worked perfectly!

    • Do we have to click advance booking? there no option to select movie there. I think for selecting a movie we have to click "watch" section?

      • This is only if you already have advance ticket in place and want to check in. You would go to planning->Advance ticket. You confirm that you want to check-in and then you select the movies. Just give it a go. It's actually pretty straightforward and the 3.2.6 app actually works great.

  • Also when you log-in www.sinemia.com/member/info
    It will show successful movie checkin details when you scroll down a bit.

    Guess its not a bad idea after app checkin to log-in sinemia website and just double check :)

  • Has anyone been able to purchase an annual subscription? I'm currently on the 2 tickets/month Elite plan for two and paid $20 after promo code. I've just extended my membership by one month but I can't see any information acknowledging this as my current month hasn't concluded yet so am hesitant to go ahead and buy another 10 months. Just wondering because the current pricing is extremely good value but that is only with the promo code, and the promo code could expire/be withdrawn soon.
