$5 Per Month for 1 Movie Ticket Per Month, $7 for 2 Tickets Per Month (Billed Annually) (+ $10 Activation Fee) @ Sinemia

1446
WinterSaleWatchCinemaWatchDeadpoolFamilySale

Looks like they've just launched in Australia but not much info about it yet. Currently supported cinemas are severely lacking in all major cities at the moment, no idea if that's just because they haven't added more yet. Does anyone have any more info?

Edit: I bit the bullet and signed up. I'm hoping that it would be easy to cancel if they don't add more cinemas given that their whole motto is "Any cinema, any time".

Edit 2: There are a lot more participating cinemas in the app compared to those on the site. Almost all the major ones from what I can see, more info in the comments.

Edit 3: Make sure you enter the coupon to see the pricing. The website does not always automatically apply it, sometimes the correct pricing isn't even displayed. Try again later if it's not. If (high) pricing exists for multiple days, mark expired.

22/6 Mod note: See this comment. Warning that users are being told to pay a $4.99 - $9.99 fee to be able to use the service immediately (despite the annual fee having been already paid).

31/7: Activation fee reported to be $10 in all cases.

        • @cuball:

Login on a Desktop. > Account Detail > Upgrade Your Premium Membership Now > "Movie Goer +2 Tickets Per Month (5 Movie Tickets Per Month) $A $21 a month.

  • I've got one movie to go - I'm intrigued to see whether the membership automatically rolls over at the $4 a movie rate I signed up for, or whether I have to manually renew at the rate that's significantly higher.

  • How long does it take to get a card?

    • +1

I joined the 9th me haven’t even had an email to say that they’ve sent a card, just one to say they took payment.

  • Not sure if anyone will know.

    • What does Sinemia class as a month? Is it calendar month (1st to 31st) or activation month (26th to the 26th)?

It would suck to activate a card and you only have 4 days to watch 2 films and can’t be same day.

    • is there an activation time for the iOS virtual card? Should I activate now to go in 3 days or is within half an hour ok?
    • The billing month starts when you activate the card/cardless option. They classify the month as 30 days, and the cardless option is pretty much instant once you've activated it, so you're probably best to activate today and just buy the tickets in advance for 3 days time.

    • Date of activation + 30days

  • +1

Activated the virtual card feature on ipad and tried to book a standard ticket at Hoyts Melbourne Central. Payment declined…I tried booking on PC and mobile without success.
Was anyone able to use the virtual card payment? If yes, which cinema.

    • Same to me. Twitter them and after a few days they replied to start refund to me. Seems they can’t offer such a “good” deal.

      • So Hoyts and Village Cinemas are a no go with sinemia virtual card :(

        Anyone tried IMAX Melb?

  • Tried to book 2 tickets to DP2 last night for Village Cinemas using the virtual card (haven't got physical yet). Said there was an error and to contact Sinemia.

Been 22 hours now and still no reply via Twitter or the official email it said to contact.

Not having a good time so far.

    • Did you do advance booking, or normal booking? If its advanced, I think you can cancel and recover your tickets.

      • Normal booking. Never was able to book the tickets and didn't end up going.

  • My other half and I watch around two movies a month. Looking at all the comments above and wondering if I should get a sub for this. I am also checking moviepass subscription but looks like it is not yet launched in australia

  • Just used it today to watch a movie and no problems at all - everything worked. Went to classic cinemas in Elsternwick, Victoria. It’s worrying to read that redemption at village or hoyts isn’t working though.

    • I tried it for the Clasic Cinemas yesterday. The card kept getting declined. I only got it working by logging in with my classic membership to access cheaper prices.

      • It seems like they don't load enough money onto the virtual card to cover the Adult movie price plus booking fees..

  • I haven't received my card till now . What can I do ? Their customer care doesn't seem to be responding .

    • How long's it been?

    • They don't respond to email. They do respond if you DM them on Twitter.

  • I finally decided to bite the bullet and subscribe. Let's see how it goes…

  • so the virtual card is working on Hoyt's cinema website or not?

    • You can give it a try but based on the previous comments it most likely will not work.

I've tried Village cinema website and for me it did not work :(

Ordering advanced tickets via the Sinemia app / virtual card will give you the in-app option to cancel in case it does not work…

Lets hope they fix and get it working soon :)

  • Just to clarify - Village/Hoyts work in person fine - used Village over the counter at candy bar and Hoyts using their self serve ticket machines.

    • -1

You can use the card to pay for the candy bar?!?!! I thought you could only buy movie tickets with it?

      • I think you buy the tickets at the candy bar, LOL.

        • So how to buy movie ticket on candy bar just give them your card number of sinemia?

        • @agam2104: Only with a physical card that Sinemia mails out but takes more then a month to arrive..

  • Hi,I got a notification to get a virtual card.I accepted it.But when I am trying to book it giving error"Please contact customer service". How to check is my virtual card is active?. Since I cant able to find my vurtial cad number in the app.

  • +2

So it seems no one manage to use the virtual card on Hoyts and Village?

    • +1

I've successfully used the virtual card to buy tickets at Hoyts.

      • Do you have a physical card also active?

        • No, I haven't received my physical card yet.

  • Had the shittest customer service experience with them earlier.

Didn't realize that the expiry date on your subscription is based on US time. Logged on this morning - saw that I had 0 movies to use by 28/5 rather than it rolling over. Checked with them on Twitter that it doesn't automatically roll over and that you buy one month at a time (which seems contrary to the advertising).

Went to renew, prices are now ridiculous - $36 for 3 movies a month. No value at all. Did notice that I had the 5 movie upgrade option instead for $21 using the old promo price.

Renewed for $21/upgraded to 5 movies. Then went to "You have 2 movies to watch by 28/5". Spent rest of day arguing with them why they should refund me the $21 for a service that is impossible to provide. Kept asking how I can upgrade to a yearly fee as I was happy to lock it in, but no options presented themselves. Got told to "just try at the end of the month" instead.

I really want this service to work, and I want to give them my money, but they're just hopeless. Am guessing it will roll over tomorrow contrary to advice, probably at way too much for the service. I notice my account has been put back to 3 movies a month, but the charge has still gone off my credit card.

  • Surprisingly quick and easy to use. Virtual card worked fine online for Event cinemas.

    • where I can find my virtual card number in iPhone app?.

      • The app should generate a new virtual card number with every advanced booking.

    • With event cinemas do you know if vmax counts as a premium ticket or standard with sinema? (Is it only 1 every 30 days?)

      • From my understanding, VMAX counts as a premium ticket, and you can only see one every 30 days (not once per billing month).

    • +1

How???? what is this black magic.

  • Ha - yeah, avoid.

After numerous times being told it doesn't automatically renew because I didn't purchase a yearly subscription, just had it automatically roll over at $39.99 for 3 movies a month.

    Cancel. Cancel. Cancel.

  • New Android version 3.2.4 on Google play store dated 29/05/2018 still the same issues nothing refreshes no matter the internet connection

    • yup, pretty shit update

    • I checked this morning and the planning section now works. haven't tried booking a movie though.

  • +2

Thanks to all you beta testers, looks like this ended up having several issues after all.

  • Say I have the elite package 2 movies for two people each month. Does that entitle me to 4 individual movie tickets or only two movie tickets (for two people)? Sorry if this has been asked before

    • +1

      Should be the latter.

  • Signed up on the 8th, I'm never getting a card am I?
Virtual card isn't much use for android users given how broken that app is

    • try the Android app again, seems to be better than yesterday.

      • Does it support the virtual card option now?

        • yes

  • Hi there, has anyone had any luck using this at either Hoyts in Greensborough or Village in Doncaster, either using the physical card or the virtual card? Thanks.

    • Just tried bookin at Hoyts greensborough with virtual card. No luck.

  • I have tried Village and Sun theatre in Yarraville for advanced booking wit the virtual card and both decline the payment…Going to contact them now….

    • I tried Village & Hoyts without success. Must be the payment processing system on their websites. I was successful to book for Palace Cinemas.

  • +1

Anyone able to book on Hoyts using virtual card ?

    • Hey Upeed,

Yes i placed an advanced ticket booking for DP2 on Saturday at Hoyts Northland via the iOS app and successfully used the Virtual Debit Card details from the app to pay for the tickets. It also pays for the booking fees.

Now i just have to Checkin before the movie and i'm good to go!

      • Did you book directly on hoyts website with pc? I tried several times without success. Payment declined. What did you put in as card holder name? Was it guest or registered account on hoyts?

        • Yes i booked directly on the Hoyts website as a guest user (i don't have a Hoyts account) and i typed in the card holders name as "Sinemia" and once payment was accepted i received the email with my tickets from Hoyts.

        • @Karlman: When I tried to input card holders name as "Sinemia" at the Village cinema payment checkout it would not accept it.

Anyways, hope they fixed it so it works. Wont try until weekend

        • +1

          @LHSolutions:

I will try Village with my next purchase and let you know how it go.

        • @Karlman: Cool, thx :)

        • @LHSolutions:
So just got back from Hoyts Northland and was unable to Checkin via iOS app or Android. Both just wouldn't load and keep having connection problems even though both devices had internet and GPS working. I have noticed tonight that the Sinemia website doesn't even load. So I have taken photos of the apps not loading which will have GPS co-ordinates built in as proof. Disappointing but hopefully will be resolved soon.

      • Good that it works for somebody atleast. Doesnt work for me yet.

    • I was also able to book on Hoyts Melb Central for DP2 via android virtual card. Booked on hoyts website as guest. I used Sinemia as the card holder name.

      • Have you side loaded the android version that was pulled from the Playstore as the current version doesn't support virtual cards?

        • No i did not. I had installed app around 2-3 weeks before. It must have got auto updated. I can see that it says updated 2 days ago.

      • How to get virtual card from Android app ?

        • Thats what i would like to know as the version on Playstore is 2.5.7 which was released in Nov 2017 and that doesn't support virtual cards. They did release a newer version not long ago but it was removed from Playstore due to stability issues. So lookingForCheapDeal must still have the updated version. Most people who had it stated it crashed all the time. When will they release a stable version for Android! :<

        • @Karlman:
I just installed from Playstore and it's showing 3.2.4. I'm not sure why you get 2.5.7. Is it possible there is different versions for different people depending on their device maybe?

        • @searider:

I just removed and reinstalled on my S8 and its still v2.5.7. Wierd.:<

When you look at the available version number on Playstore is it showing as v3.2.4? As when i look its still showing v2.5.7

        • @Karlman: Yes, when I went to Playstore, it's showing as 3.2.4. I installed it and on my Android it's showing as 3.2.4.

        • +1

@searider: mine also showing 2.5.7 ,but found 3.2.4 apk link http://sinemia.apk.watch/3.2.4.

        • @searider:
Interesting as when i look on my phone and on my PC, it shows v2.5.7 but on my PC it states it was last updated on the 29th May 2018.

        • @Karlman: App give me notification of virtual card, but application not working properly.

        • @Karlman: new update 3.2.5 v came today but still not working.

        • @agam2104:
Finally can now see v3.2.4 but updated and it opened once and now doesn't get past the logo screen at startup but that maybe due to their website also not loading.

        • @agam2104:

I could at least find cinemas with 3.2.4 now 3.2.5 just shows the circling loading thing.

  • +2

is it me or can someone else confirm, you can now just go on monthly for same price without needing to pay annual?

    • looks like it :) lol

    • +1

Will monthly end up rolling you over to the non-discounted price at some point though?

  • Looks like the versions rolled back to the old one for Android. Ios seems to work for most

    • ios give me an error "contact customer care".Mailed them 5 days ago still waiting to hear form them.

  • So has anyone tried to see if Gold Class is considered as a premium ticket?

    • Has anyone successfully used Sinemia to purchase Gold Class tickets?

  • +1

Believe it or not, this worked for me using PayPal as well. A smaller cinema I bought tickets at used PayPal to process it - I had to enter a full address (luckily this was on the Sinemia website) and I used the Walmart phone number, and it went through and I got the tickets. Just need to check into the cinema on the day. Hopefully this doesn’t backfire lol

    • did it work?

      • lol Ok, so I show up at the cinema and, although I had the tickets and saw the movie, the Sinemia app didn’t work and I couldn’t check into the cinema at all. I’ll probably be charged the full price of the tickets now. Currently harassing them on twitter to try and ensure that doesn’t happen. How annoying.

        • I just want to know can we use fakegps ?

  • Here’s hoping a fellow OzB’r would know the answer to:

I haven’t yet received my physical card. I’ve activated the virtual card option

I tried “advance booking” for DP2 at event cinemas for tomorrow. Got a virtual card number with expiry date and CVV which I tried entering in the payment details in event cinemas website. Put “Sinemia” as name of the cardholder. Got declined. Same result using paypal and all other forms of payment.

My question is - When I’m in the theatre tomorrow and “check in” in the app, will I then be able to pay online using those virtual card details. Or could I pay for the tickets online beforehand

    Thanks guys

    • I can't even get my virtual card working. It say contact customer care

    • You need to be able to successfully book your movie ticket on the cinemas website first. Once you have your ticket then you can go to the cinema and check in on the app. If at the moment you can't book the ticket, it'll be the same tomorrow. Besides, the payment details would only be available for only two hours after you confirm session time on the app. I would suggest you cancel your advance booking and get in touch with sinemia via twitter.

      • How to cancel the advance booking?, I was just checking if it will generate the card number, which in the end generate in ios application.

        • Go to Planning->Advance Ticket. You have option of check-in or cancel.

        • @searider: and why check-in required after you got the Ticket?

        • @agam2104: That's the way it works. It's to make sure that the your are attending the movie at the scheduled time and the ticket is used by you and not being passed on or sold to anyone else. If you don't check in at the time of the movie they will charge full price of the ticket to your credit card rather than using your sinemia allocation.

        • +1

@searider: ok,but I think it can easily bypass by using fakegps

        • @agam2104: whats the point of using fakegps if you're going to watch the movie anyway?

  • So they push a new update today 3.2.5 v for android but still, it is stuck on searching cinemas page, and in my iPhone, I can generate the virtual card but as above comment, it will not work in Hoyts cinema.
