    I wouldn't call $30 for this a deal. CrystalDiskInfo, GSmartControl, etc., are free and work just as well.

      They all read the S.M.A.R.T. data from the disk, no more magic than that.

          This product can test each sector and find any issues on the HDD so you know to keep it or bin it.

          @Presjar: That can be done with a standard S.M.A.R.T. self-test, which you can easily trigger in GSmartControl.

      As someone who uses this every day, no way. This does a lot more. It interprets manufacturer SMART information a lot more elegantly than CrystalDiskInfo. There are also a bunch of surface scanning tools which are extremely useful. For example, if you have a failing hard drive, you can sometimes bring it back from the dead long enough to do a direct clone using the "disk repair" tool which recursively reads over bad sectors over and over until it can read and move the data to a more reliable sector. There's also a disk re-initialisation tool which will securely erase any drive, and simultaneously test the entire disk for read/write issues, with a detailed graph as to what sectors perform poorly. Weak sectors then get forcibly reallocated. It's saved many drives from the dead and made many of my data recovery efforts much easier.

    HD Sentinel is probably the only one which can show you all details including SMART even of HDDs hooked up via RAID cards.

    I purchased a Pro license some time ago. While there are any number of programs which display SMART information. Hard Disk Sentinel, is the only one that gives a fairly detailed explanation of the condition of the drive, which will tell you if the issues are only minor, so you can keep using the drive, or critical, meaning that drive needs to be replaced. In my opinion, this makes it far superior than any of the alternatives and well worth paying for.
