  I'd avoid this for 2 reasons:

  • The performance gains of 8th gen chips (which are now quad core) are pretty impressive.
  • The alcantara stains easily and horribly, I have a Surface wireless keyboard and it only took 2 months for it to stain.

    I didn't know the i5 was quad cores. Good to know.
    Do you believe an 8th gen i5U (or i7U) is ok for light video editing? (for light i mean no 4k).

      Just in case you misread the comment above, the Surface Laptop doesn't use 8th gen CPU.
      And to answer your question, yes 1080p editing shouldn't be a problem. Only issue is that rendering will take longer time than a desktop quad core machine due to thermal /cooling limit.

        I didn't misread :) I just asked because he seemed to be quite an expert.

        Doesn't matter if it takes longer, maybe I can do the edit on the laptop (I am often away for work) and then render on a better machine.
