great timing - cheap way to pay off my tax bill with the ATO

  • +10

Hi Kingsville, sorry for my ignorance (I am not very IT savy), may I ask, how do you use itune cards to pay your ATO bill?

    • +6

      Like this

      • Oh I see. Thank you for the link Cheaponos. Much appreciated. Cheers.

    • +6

Scammers will call you saying they’re from the ATO, you owe money, and it needs to be paid via gift cards. 95% don’t fall for it, but enough do that they keep trying.

“Pay me in gift cards” = your being scammed.

      • +6

In Murricas they just ask for people's credit card numbers to settle an IRS debt. The IRS is way behind the ATO which accepts gift cards!

      • Yeah, and I don't think they hire Indians either

      • +1

Thanks Enigma48. I appreciate your time in answering my question. Cheers.

    • +1

You realise you have t declare the 20% savings to the ATO, right? Which means you really need to buy 20% extra value.

  • +2

    Will Officeworks price match?

    • They should beat it.

    • +1

Officeworks have been advertising the same price as others sale prices on itunes cards for the last 12 months. This way they don't have to beat the discounted price on itunes cards that they used to do.

  • Sorry, maybe a newbie question. Can I redeem it for Apple Music subscription?

    • +3

      Yes, and Netflix

      • Wait for discount only for Netflix. Now even better redeem the coles myer gift card from Amex point.

        • +1

How can u get Netflix cheaper than this 20% off? I’m all ears (eyes)

        • @Bellpop: I need to know this too

        • @Bellpop: @lai is probably saying you can buy Netflix only gift cards?

        • +3

          @Bellpop:

You pay for your Netflix subscription using your Apple account. To do this, let your current subscription expire. Then, ONCE EXPIRED, subscribe to Netflix from your apple device. This will then allow you the option to pay for your new subscription via Apple/iTunes. You then fund this account via your newly acquired 20% off iTunes cards…

How do I know? I JUST did this a week ago, when i found out about it (with my exisiting Apple funds). Now I can get 20% off instead of the usual 15% :-)

        • @Lasher: thanks mate

        • Sorry. I made a mistake.
I usually redeem eGift card from cc rewards point. (11750 pts -> $50 eGift card)

New Amex got 30,000 bonus pts. Then I look up (6750 pts -> $50 cole group and myer card) Wow~ I think it is bargain…

BUT… since it is a bank issued card, all the pts automatically transfer back to the bank. :( I could not redeem coles gift card from Amex.

That's what I thought it was nice! Use less reward pts to buy discount iTune card (and this only for Netflix at the moment) .

        • @Lasher: I thought the in app purchase from places like Netflix cost more to cover Apple's cut.

        • @Kyle-K: Nope - same subscription price as any other payment method.

    • Yes you can as well as iCloud Storage.

  • +3

Sweet, I can send more to my internet GF!

    • +10

Hello, its me. Your internet gf.

      • Are you someone from his work?

  • Why would anyone need $1000 to spend on iTunes?

    • There are apps out there that cost a fair bit for subscriptions.
Great way to save a bit of money on it.

    • Money in your iTunes account doesn’t expire. $1000 would give you years of 20% off Apple music, Netflix, Stan iCloud storage, apps, whatever.

But really, you are buying all those extra cards as gifts aren’t you? They think you spent $100, when you really only spent $80.

  • Is there any way I can use these to pay for Netflix without having an Apple device? I'm currently paying with google play billing but rarely see Google Play gift cards on sale any more…

    • +1

Not to my knowledge. I wasn't able to figure it out via the Web/iTunes. Ended up borrowing a device from a friend to set up Netflix billing, then it was easy enough to keep topping up with 20% off coupons. $12/mon for the 4K premium Netflix is totally worth it. (I'm still paying $14.99 a month for it somehow, and 20% of cards…)

      • Isn’t there iTunes for windows? I think it just got an upgrade.

        • A Netflix subscription has to be purchased as an in app purchase which means it has to be done on an iOS device from within the Netflix app.

        • @Kyle-K: ah, OK

        • @entropysbane: but you can then top up from itunes desktop easily enough.

        • @Elijha: you are correct it only would need to be initially set up on an iOS device and now I think about it you could probably do it on a tvOS device also.

  • +6

Finally, these 20 off deals are as rare as hens teeth these days.

    • +5

I miss that time Big W had 50% off :(

  • +2

The real gem in this picture is the bonds undies at 50% off

    • +3

Good spot, isn’t Bond normally 40% off?

  • +2

Now that I know these cards can cover Apple Music and iCloud family plans, I'll save $6.596 per month with these 20% of cards. If I buy $400 of iTunes cards on sale for $320 all at once (one year of 2TB iCloud and Apple Music family shared), I'll save $80 a year.

  • Is there an expiry date on iTunes gift cards

    • I don't believe so, I'm pretty sure of got removed it least three years ago. I also couldn't find anything in the terms and conditions https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/giftcar…

It also looks like they have remove the activity requirement on the account balance once it's been redeemed. I believe it used to require you to make it least one purchase every 2 or 3 years for the credit to stay free purchases did count as activity and would allow you to keep your balance.

  • How long after i purchased it and have to redeem it to my acct before it get expire?

  • +2

Keep in mind if you're purchasing iTunes Gift Cards for the Apple Music Subscription. At 20% off your okay, However if buying iTunes Cards at 15% off for Apple Music it's cheaper to buy an Apple Music 12 Month Subscription Card.

    • About 18 months ago Woolworths included the Apple Music 12 Month subscription in a 20% off iTunes sale but I’ve never seen that repeated :(

      • About 18 months ago Woolworths included the Apple Music 12 Month subscription in a 20% off iTunes sale but I’ve never seen that repeated :(

I think that was only done as a promotion when the cards were first introduced and I believe it was Woolworths and target that had the offer and the additional 20% was a awesome deal. Probably never to be repeated again.

    • You can get a 12 month subscription in the app for $119 (12 months for the price of 10)

      • You can get a 12 month subscription in the app for $119 (12 months for the price of 10)

As I mentioned above 20% off iTunes gift cards even if you're planning on buying an Apple Music Subscription with them it works out cheaper. The Apple Music 12 Month Subscription Card only make sense if the discount on iTunes credit is less then 20% e.g. 15% off.

        • Wait hang on… how much is a 12 month subscription card?

Edit: I just looked it up. $119.

So you can spend $119 on an Apple Music gift card, or use $119 of iTunes credit for the same 12 month subscription.

I know what I’ll be doing.

  • +1

If I have $100 itunes gift card (unwanted gift), how can I sell them? Are they easy to sell? Where should I sell them?

    • Ozbargain classifieds, but you’d have to sell it at a better price then the 15%-20% discounts.

  • Could I use these to get 20% off an apple watch in the Apple store?

    • -6

Yes, you can but call and ask first before you go in.

      • Why? Can they convert iTunes credits to apple store credits? That's news to me!

    • +4

"iTunes Gift Cards can be redeemed for songs, albums, audiobooks, videos, and games on the iTunes Store. They cannot be used to buy Apple products."

      https://www.apple.com/shop/help/gifting

    • These cards cannot be used at the Apple Store.

  • +1

Beside Netflix, is there any list of companies accept the apple giftcard in AUSTRALIA?

    • -2

      ATO

    • There's quite a few apps that allow you to do in app purchases to pay for subscriptions like Netflix does.

  • -4

Is there a way to do partial payments to the ATO with an iTunes gift card?

  • Does anyone know if I can pay for it with Coles gift cards (5% off via RACQ)? Tried using flybuys dollars to buy these at KMart before with no luck :(

    • +1

I asked at counter few months ago the same question, coles cashier told me that it should be able to. But I have not tried.

      • +1

I haven't tried with itunes but they said your not allowed to pay with e-gift card when I tried to buy $100 prepaid Coles MasterCard.

Woolies you can but not sure about Coles.

        • +1

I can confirm you can buy $100 Coles MasterCard GC using 5% off eGC. I went to self checkout kiosk. What you can't do is split payment over multiple eGC's.

edit: Don't see a reason why you won't be able to buy iTunes GC using coles eGC

        • +2

@Cisco123: You most certainly can split payment over multiple eGift Cards! Just did it myself. I bought 1x $100 and 1x $30 cars (total scam price $104). Had a $100 eGift Card and $4 left on a previous eGift Card.

Self checkout, scan the iTunes cards as normal, tap Pay Now, choose Mixed Payment, it might prompt for approval to proceed. Scan your phone screen under the Flybuys scanner. Enter PIN. It’ll decline on the PINpad but give you a Cancel or Proceed option on the checkout screen - tap Proceed, enter the eGift Card PIN again, it’ll approve. Then it will ask you to make up the last $4 - which you then tap Gift Card for.

  • It’s used to be able to buy other gift card using ecard,( but not the Coles grounp gift card), since their system update, not sure is still work. is anyone can confirm it?

  • +1

Pay by Apple Pay and 28 degrees card and get 5% back.

  • Bought this morning. On the display stand, it said, '15% off', but scanned at 20%.

  • Bought just now at Coles north Sydney. There were no signs or anything saying they’re 20% off.

Just bring them to counter and scan and the discount will be applied.

  • -1

Apologies if this has been already asked. Couldn't see it… Do you earn Flybuys on iTunes Gift Card Purchases AND does this count as qualifying spend for incentive spending offers (eg Spend $200 get 3000 points)?

    • No excludes iTunes and gift cards and Tabaco for flybuys points and it doesn’t go towards incentive spending or double points etc cheers

  • Can anyone confirm if they can use Coles egift card to buy at the self-checkout?

    • i did it today but 1 at a time. The machine threw a hissy fit when i tried to do two.

      • -1

Sorry - could you please clarify - pay with one coles e-gift card at a time or process one iTunes gift card at a time?

        • pay one itunes gift card at a time at coles.

    • +1

I was happily scanning the 4 cards at self checkout (4 cards in one transaction), hit “Pay now”, chose Gift Card, scanned the code from my phone, went to enter the card PIN… and the staff told me “no”, at first they said “you can’t pay for iTunes with gift cards” but then the story changed to “you can’t pay for iTunes with gift cards at self checkout”. So they directed me to a staffed checkout and it worked perfectly.

No idea why there would be a difference, but 🤷‍♂️

  • I have access to Suncorp Benefits by being a AAMI Customer, so I got my 5% off Coles eGift Card and stacked that with this deal. $120 of iTunes cards came to $96 at the POS, and only cost me $95 AUD 👌. The staff wouldn’t let me use the gift card as payment through self checkout (not sure why, it seemed to be working till they told me they couldn’t let me) but no problem going through a staffed checkout

    • I can confirm that you most certainly CAN split payment over multiple eGift Cards! Just did it myself. I bought 1x $100 and 1x $30 cars (total scam price $104). Had a $100 eGift Card and $4 left on a previous eGift Card.
