  • Number 1 rule of paleo is no grains isn't it? So what's in this "muesli"?

    • +3

Click it and look, it's grain free.

    • +5

monkey fingernails and hairy flakes of elephant skin

  • Cheers OP, I'll give it a whirl. Looks pretty damn good. For any one with a Costco membership there is a Muesli there from Byron Bay called Granolaaah that is delicious and looks similar to this.

  • +1

They were very fast to add the addendum "- ONE ONLY PER PERSON WILL BE SENT!"

  • 50% fat

    • +5

Good, it's legitimately healthy unlike grain based muesli.

    • +1

      Good fats though

  • Might taste terrible(or might not, I don't know) but I save $20-30 so I can't stop myself!

  • Shopping coming as 9.95 for me to wa

  • +4

I'll stick with my 69c pack of 750gm oats from Woolies thanks.

    • Or just eat dirt for free? Brilliant.

  • +3

That's $9.95 for 750g of trail mix (nuts, berries, seeds, coconut, raw honey)

Follow the paleo diet and you too can die at 30 years of age like paleo man!

    • 50% fat would probably have been perfect for 'Paleo' man who spent the majority of their lives expending energy foraging / hunting for food, but I'm quite certain its in no way healthy for the 'Modern' man.

The majority of the population doesn't even get their recommended daily physical exercise (hence the obesity epidemic), so shouldn't be eating such foods.

      • +4

'Paleo' has the curse of bad branding. In actuality, its much less about about eating like cavemen and more about about limiting sugar and heavily processed foods. I can't believe the hate that Paleo gets sometimes. Eating more fat doesn't necessarily make you fat. It does however, make you feel much fuller and stops sugar cravings. The obesity crisis is due to bad eating habits, not exercise. Like the saying goes, you can't outrun a bad diet.

        • Paleo has a bad reputation because of the people involved in promoting it. Kind of like CrossFit and veganism.

When Pete "antivaxer" Evans is your key spokesperson then you have a problem. Quite frankly, anyone that gets their nutrition advice from a celebrity chef needs their head read.

        • +1

@choodi: the same could be said for the Dieticians Association of Australia. Full of vested interests. You should look at the list of sugar and junk food industry sponsors that the DAA promotes.

Limit packaged products and go back to real food like healthy fats, proteins, and lots of vegetables. Your body will thank you.

@thriftshop: I think you should stop listening to conspiracy theories and assorted crackpots like Pete Evans…him and his ilk also have sponsors and their own vested interests. Pete Evans has become extremely rich selling snake oil, conspiracy theories and repackaged advice via cookbooks dressed up as nutrition advice.

Limit packaged products and go back to real food like healthy fats, proteins, and lots of vegetables. Your body will thank you.

Strange that this is the exact advice that the dieticians at Queensland Health gave when I was working there. Eat a balanced, well-rounded diet in the correct portions and you will be healthy.

What exactly are the dieticians recommending that goes against this advice?

        • +2

@choodi: Directly from the Dieticians Association of Australia - “Milo is a yummy source of protein and calcium as well as iron! This is a great recovery option after strenuous exercise.”

          DAA

LOL! Milo is full of sugar and only has 2.4g protein! Being promoted as a recovery option? This is just one example.

As food is probably the most important aspect to your health, everyone should do their research, across many points of view, not just one, it is definitely worth your time Choodi.

        • @thriftshop: This is advice provided under the topic "Pumping Iron" and did you not pay attention to the following:

This is a great recovery option after strenuous exercise

But sure, cherry pick some more out-of-context quotes to support your anti-science viewpoint. Please.

        • @choodi: umm yeah, I even put it in the quote. They think milo is a great recovery option after strenuos exercise… that was my point. High in sugar, low in protein. Are you saying that it is a great recovery option?

Cherry pick? You asked for an exact example. That was just a recent one. Go through their sponsored recommendations if you want more. They even publically admit they are funded by the sugary and processed food companies.

Anti-science? Eating healthy fats, protein and lots of vegetables and avoiding sugary, carb loaded, processed foods is anti-science? It’s actually the complete opposite. Science is actually backing this, vested interests are backing the sugar and processed food industries.

It sounds like you are the one with the vested interest here… I’m not continuing this illogical conversation with you.

      • 50% Saturated fats I agree absolutely. However these good fats will definitely not make you fatter, quite the apposite actually, and a hell of a lot healthier. Sugar, saturated fats and carbs are the bad guys. I’m not even going to bother explaining why we live longer than 30 years today.

        • Whats wrong with carbs? Wholemeal/grain toast, oats, sweet/normal potatoes and brown rice specifically.

        • @zuey: Nothing wrong with carbs. Just like any food, eat them in moderation and in the correct proportions and no food is bad for you.

        • @zuey: obviously vegetables have carbs but it’s the amount of extra carbs we eat that’s the problem. We incorrectly believed for a long time that a high carb diet was a healthy diet. Turns out they were wrong, and because of this belief our diet is now way to high in carbs, as it’s in just about everything, especially products with grains. Even our own dieticians Association of Australia has been pushing a high carb diet, and only just realising now. Swap those carbs for healthy fats, good quality protein, lots of vegetables etc. where you can and you’ll be a lot healthier.

        • @thriftshop: Carbs are great, but it all depends on your body type - this is a good table to follow:

Ectomorph: 200gm of low glycemic carbs /day
Mesomorph: 150gm of low glycemic carbs /day
Endomorph: 50gm of low glycemic carbs /day

Ideally these should be consumed around your workout times.

As said above, processed foods are bullshit - don't eat these. Sugars aren't 'bad', but they're high glycemic carbs, so if you don't use them quickly, they get stored as body fat. Saying that, I have a Granny Smith every morning before gym. Yum!
