  • Ooo nice find.. link doesn't say it's preowned though? Seems to be new.. anyone tried?

    • +2

That's what I meant to say, however it was unclear in my wording. These are new stock

  • +3

    Beat me to posting it.

Currently cheaper then AmazonAU and Catch eBay.

$36 Each or $72 for Both.

If there's no EB Games with stock nearby, you could try Price-matching at JB Hi-Fi (Left & Right)

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks! Had to add shipping as all of the Brisbane north-side stores are only showing the right-handers as in-stock.

  • This (left and right), or a pro controller?

    • +3

For most applications, I'd say pro controller. If you wanted to venture into Labo or a lot of 4+ player games, I'd say a second pair of joycons wouldn't hurt

      • Thanks (and those below). The only four player game we would likely play at the moment would be Mario Kart. And that wouldn't be often. At least with the pro controller we could still play 3 players.

And then I'd have the pro controller for Zelda.

        • +2

Can't go wrong with the pro.

Keep an eye out for any deals on the 8bitdo SF30 pro too. Great alternative to the pro controller and has all the same functions (including motion controls, normal rumble, screenshot and home buttons, but minus HD rumble and Amiibo functionality) but at almost half the price. Mine arrived the other day and it's my go-to for any game that requires a D Pad now as it's based off the SNES controller design.

Can also be used with PC, Mac and Android as an added bonus.

        • My bro recently got a switch and 'overcooked' is really fun as a 4p game

    • if you want multi-player use pick the joy-cons but if it's for games like zelda then pro controller probably better

    • Pro controller feels way better to hold and play with. But storing it away and transporting isn't the same.

    • +2

Also worth noting that the 2 limited edition pro controllers (Splatoon 2 & Xenoblade Chronicles 2) are reduced in this sale to $77 each down from $110.

      • The Xeno pro controller is supposed to be the best one, right?

        • Apparently so. I've heard they raised the dpad pivot point slightly to make inputs more accurate. Plus it looks nice too

      • That's cool. If I haven't got the one already. I'd definitely go with the xeno one for safe. Suppose to be the best version. However recently i brought a black version from Amazon, it also performs very well. Haven't got any issue with the dpad yet. Yes, I tried the puyo poyu.

    • I prefer to play MK with the Joycons separated, IDK probably because then its so easy to play in whatever position i'm sitting/laying in.

  • Might as well get the pro controller if you need another controller.

    • Unless you want to do multiplayer games (Bomberman, Stikbold, Overcooked, Death Squared, Snipperclips, Mario Kart 8 and Runbow come to mind). Otherwise the pro controller is great for single player or 2 player games that require a full set of buttons

My left Joy-Con was acting up. Thanks OP!

If it's under a year old, you can send it off to Nintendo for a free repair as long as it is broken. Had to do that with my launch joycons and have had no issues since, but glad I could help!

      • Hey me too, havent sent mine in because I generally play in handheld mode

      • I purchased it at launch unfortunately. I had a lot of issues with the left stick not responding correctly, attached or detached it still had the same problem. Oddly enough, the LED lights aren't functioning either.

  • All that's left is a Nintendo Switch console at pre-Christmas prices.

  • I got my switch recently. I don't know how people can use these joycons. They don't feel good at all. They're flat and too thin. There's no curves to make it feel more ergonomic. It makes me want to buy a pro controller, but then I can't hold it close to me, it has to be on the table. And I probably won't play it on TV because it looks bad in 4K.

Nintendo's promo videos showing people snapping off the joycons and handing one to another person to play 2 player cramped around the tiny screen sitting on the desk.. I just can't see anyone playing like that. Using a single joycon sideways is not comfortable at all. On one of them the stick is in the center and hard to reach. On the other, it's the buttons that are in the center and hard to reach. Not to mention you can't play games with depth on such a basic controller.

I also think $70 for a single joycon is very expensive.

    • They did what they could to make it handheld.
      Ergo-grips aren't typical of portables.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a joycon revision at some point.

Also both 720p and 1080p are exact fractions of 4k so assuming your TV doesn't (profanity) up the scaling it should not look any worse.

      • It looks worse because I sit up close to it. The sharpness is not there. I only play it handheld. The filtering introduced when scaling I'm just not a fan of. Scaling can be performed by the screen or by the device. Results vary. But when scaled it never looks as good as when native. To me anyway.

The Wii U gamepad had an ergonomic grip and felt good if a little big. Granted it's not something you take with you, but neither is the Switch for me. It's too big to be a portable for use outside the house.

The Switch I can only use in handheld mode and only at home because one it's too big, and two, I drive instead of taking public transport so there's nowhere I can see myself ever playing it. I don't fly either.

The reason I use it in handheld only is because it's a poor man's console. On a TV screen, I want the best experience possible and the Switch is not providing it.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a joycon revision at some point.

There's going to be an entire Switch revision and it's going to happen fast. The Switch has been cracked wide open and every unit in existence is vulnerable, and Nintendo cannot patch the vulnerability via firmware. The floodgates to piracy and homebrew are going to be open soon, and existing Switches are going to go up in value. Just a heads up if anyone is looking to get one.

There've been reported issues with Switch screens and Joycons, as well as the Switch overheating and bending when left in the dock too long. Also about the dock scratching the screen.

When Nintendo does a hardware revision to fix the vulnerability, they're probably going to hit the rest of the design flaws, maybe double the internal storage while they're at it.

        • +1

The "revision" is going to be a stealth one and may have already been done as the issue lied within Tegras chip. A simple exchange of the chipset whilst keeping everything else the same is all that's necessary.

The switches bending in the dock was a very over-hyped issue. Launch models were seemingly the only ones affected and it may not have been even the fault of the dock, it's just that people made an assumption about heat and bending so correlated between the two. I had a slightly warped launch model switch and sent it off to Nintendo who replaced the whole thing with save data in tact as it was still under warranty

        • @Ninternet:

A significant number of people had launch models you know.. the thing sold pretty well.

I don't know what caused the bending, whether it was the dock or the switch itself, but it wasn't good. People I know have the issue. Those who don't use the dock don't have bending. So it has to be something about using the dock that causes it.

I don't doubt Nintendo fixed it for you. I'm surprised your saves were in tact though. Not everyone who had theirs sent in were able to keep their saves. And of course Nintendo has no way for you to back up your saves.

Maybe they will just fix the Tegra chip, but they really ought to do more than that, and I think they eventually will. If you look at DS, and 3DS there were multiple new revisions. This thing I consider to be the successor to the 3DS, and will likely go the same route. There will be a more powerful "New" Switch in a few years with improved QC across the board.

If you want a Switch for homebrew, I still suggest buying one ASAP.

        • @lostn: nothing you've said is backed up by anything other than speculation. Nintendo are continuing the 3DS line of products at least through 2019. Switch isn't a natural successor to the 3ds, hence the Wii U ports.

We get that you don't like it, but lots of people do. The issues aren't as big as you're making them out to be

        • @Ninternet:

It being cracked wide open is a fact.

A re-release to fix the vulnerability is not confirmed fact but common sense based on the historic response of hardware manufacturers to vulnerabilities.

Revisions to fix issues is also educated speculation based on historic trends.

Enhancing a product is also educated speculation based on historic trends. New 3DS, PS4 Pro, Xbox one X/S, etc. New revisions without enhanced specs are also historic trend: DS Lite, DSi, GBA SP, GBA Micro, 2DS, 3DS XL, 2DS XL, New 2DS, etc.

If you don't think there will be a revision of Switch at some point that does more than fix Tegra, well I don't know what else to say.

Nintendo is not going to even acknowledge the Tegra issue. If they do, they will draw attention to it and the 17M current Switch owners will be alerted to what they can do with their vulnerable Switches, and they aren't going to want that. I don't know why you want to be one of those people who don't believe anything until there's an official press release. I'm not referring to the Tegra issue, but the revisions to other components of the hardware. They will happen, speculation or not.

Nintendo are continuing the 3DS line of products at least through 2019. Switch isn't a natural successor to the 3ds

Yes they are. And Sony continued the PS3 for several years after the PS4 released. Doesn't make PS4 not a successor to 3DS. The same happened with PS2 when PS3 released. And the same will happen with PS4 when PS5 is released. The games will dry up after the successor launches though, particularly from the 1st party. They're going to support 3DS (whatever that means) only through 2019. Which is about the same length of support an outgoing device is expected to be supported after its successor arrives. I'm curious to see what 3DS games Nintendo will continue to release on it between now and then.

          hence the Wii U ports

This happens because it's easy to do, and the Wii U's failure meant that a lot of people never got to experience those games.

We get that you don't like it

I never said that. I only said I don't like the joycons. If I didn't, why would I have bought one? I know about its criticisms before I bought one.

The issues aren't as big as you're making them out to be

They are real. Left joycons not syncing, screens getting scratched by the dock, bending.. these have all been reported. Nintendo have offered to fix the left joycon issue which a lot of people had when docked. Do they affect 100% of owners? No. Neither did the headband cracking issue of Sony's MDR1000X. To deny they even exist is lunacy.

        • @lostn:
          Tl:;dr

    • There are 3rd party 'grips' that you can place the joycon in to make them a little more egronomic for multiplayer games. I'll probably invest in a couple when I get one, as I agree, the tiny controls are a little bit silly.

I do like the concept and execution is nearly there, but falls short in a few aspects.

  • I tried to order these a couple of weeks ago and found that I had apparently bought pre-owned stock when I went to pick up. I rejected them and checked my receipt which showed I had bought pre-owned stock. I think I was redirected during my purchase, but I can't see why that happened - maybe its because its pickup only and the store I selected didn't have new ones?

    • yeah link re-directs when new ones are out of stock
