  • Wow this is cheap.. I remembered buying the i5 version without the 1tb hardrive at 1200 plus aud in July 2017, and I thought that was a bargain.

    • Only 1050 Ti though. Not exactly a gaming or rendering beast.

    • It has been nearly 1 year since then, not a big price drop.

  • +1

Would've been better if it was the gtx1060 version.

    • +9

Would've be better if it was the gtx1080ti version

      • -6

        There's no such version.

        • -4

My post got downvoted for stating a fact. lol

      • +8

Would be better if it was the SLI Titan XP version.

        • Would've been better if it was the version where you're dying of thirst, walking through hectares of featureless desert and about to collapse when a talking fridge appears out of nowhere and offers you a cold beverage for $1095.20 - which is the exact change you happened to have in your one tattered pocket.

Dell's onto a winner with that one.

    • 1060 version is the Q-Max variant, so it's not much better.

Firestrike score of my 1060 Inspiron, vs my 1050Ti rig: https://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/15205475/fs/13189876

  • -5

Not bad for a laptop. Can definitely go lower you are paying about 300-400 premium for the portability factor.

    • +3

What laptop can you get new for $700-800 that has those specs as well as the gpu? Cheapest I've seen is the Metabox deal with no OS at $899.

      • Reckon this or the 1060 version listed below?

Still on the fence about either one

        • Personally I don't think that paying an extra $250 is worth it for a worse CPU, losing the 1TB HDD, upgrading the 1050ti to 1060 and upgrading the 128GB SSD to 256GB SSD . Especially this late into the 10 series lifecycle.

Decent quick comparison of the 1050ti vs 1060 by a dude who is probably an ozbargainer.
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZGwkB6Fh_8

It really depends on your needs though, and you might have a spare 2TB 2.5" HDD lying around to make the 1060 model have a 256GB SSD + 2TB HDD for no extra cost.

Every now and then there's deals posted here that have 7700HQ with 8GB RAM, 15.6" 1080p IPS, SSD + 1050 (the 4GB non Ti model) deal for around $800, might even be worth looking into those.

        • +1

The 1060 is significantly faster and more powerful. If you do any kind of gaming or rendering or even Adobe work that can utilise the GPU it's worth getting the 1060.

        • @c0balt: did you buy this laptop how long did it take to ship? Did you get it yet?

      • +2

        .. "portability factor."

        he's comparing it to desktop

        • +3

Why is he doing that? Unless he's suggesting lugging your desktop and monitor around.

        • @lostn:
Let me explain. What he means is: It's cheaper by $300-$400 if you didn't need it in a portable form factor

        • True. Still don't get the point, people who buy gaming laptops buy them specifically for the portability factor. We all know desktops are cheaper, not worth mentioning.

        • +1

          @Georgevic:

That's the rule of thumb, but things have changed. It can be cheaper to buy a new gaming laptop over buying new comparable parts and putting the system together yourself.

The 3-400 cheaper comment could only be done if it was 2nd hand parts, most likely going the SFF route. If someone wanted to put together a system with new parts & warranty that had the same specs of this laptop then it's considerably more expensive, if not actually close or more than the cost of this laptop.

A new i7 chip, even Sky/Kaby Lake, can be more than double the entire cost of the SFF systems.

          @ MSY
          7700 - $411
          cheap B250 board - $90
          8GB DDR4 - $115
          1050ti - $250
          128GB SSD - $50
          1TB HDD - $55
          450w 80plus bronze PSU - $59
          Cheap case - $30
Windows 10 key from cd key sites - $15

Total = $1075 for a new system close to the specs of this laptop using new parts.

Also that doesn't even include a mouse, keyboard, sd card reader, wifi card, UPS (battery performs as a UPS in a laptop) and 1080p monitor.

  • +5

    Great price for i7 version.
For those interested in GTX 1060, the i5 version is available at $1359.20

    • For reference, I saw a refurbished version of this (1060 gpu version) on the Dell outlet site for ~$1169

    • +1

Comes with Thunderbolt 3 port too with the GTX 1060

    • +2

A bit cheaper from Dell $1349.01

      • cheaper again on ebay with cashrewards

        • +2

How does 1% Cashrewards on eBay better 3.5% on Dell site? 😜

  • +1

Great price for the configuration. This has IPS panel compared to earlier TN panels which received poor reviews.

    source: tech specs on ebay

Can anybody confirm if 8 GB RAM is single stick or 2 x 4 GB sticks? It does not specify anything in the listing.

    • +3

Sadly the IPS panel is not fantastic, although it is a step up from the TN one they made the mistake of using. The panel they use here is actually worse in colour reproduction than a decent TN panel and with a 35ms grey to grey response time, will be prone to ghosting for those who notice it.

It's not the exact same laptop, but it's the same or very similar panel here (view the display section):
      https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-Inspiron-15-7000-7577-i5-…

"Color space is only 55 percent and 35 percent of the sRGB and AdobeRGB standards, respectively, compared to over 91 percent and 59 percent on the AU Optronics panel found on the Omen 15."

I've got a similar IPS panel in my Pavilion Power 15 that the Dell has, it's very average and the anti-glare coating is aggressive to the point where solid colours have a little bit of shimmer (you can see this aggressive coating on the macro pictures of the IPS subpixel array in the above link).

The TN panel in my 2009 MacBook Pro is a better panel than these bottom of the barrel cheap IPS ones.

      • Thanks for the details!

I think I will get a monitor in a decent deal

    • +3

8GB is a single stick on my one.

      • IMO the better choice to do with RAM prices the way they are currently.

8GB single channel is going alright for me in my laptop, and I'd rather pay $60 in a years time to go up to 16GB dual channel than I would have to replace the DIMMs already in there and pay $120.

Of course this is assuming RAM prices come down in a year.

      • Perfect. Thanks a lot

      • Can you please share the RAM model that you have in your system? TIA!

Want to order the RAM till the laptop is delivered.

From what I searched, Crucial and Kingston both seem to have compatible products with specs mentioned on Dell page.

          Adata AO1P24HC8T1-BSFS

  • Could this run Civ 6 alright?

    • +2

Would tear through it on max settings.

Newer 6 core high TDP chips are faster, and Civ6 does take advantage of the extra cores and threads on the new H series over the increased clock speed of the older HQ chips, so you would have ~30% less time waiting between turns but they are expensive at the moment and not close to the performance/price of 7300HQ/7700HQ deals.

      • Oh nice, thank you man. I know nothing about computers, except that Civ is apparently quite intensive for a strategy game. Thanks!

  • great price !
bought i5 version as a present for my son a few month ago (a little bit cheaper, about $950) and he is happy

  • Is the Ram Upgradeable?
    UPDATE: Bought it.

Can anyone tell me if the SSD and Ram be upgraded along with the hdd in the coming times.

I hope their build quality is better than MSI, acer ,asus and gigabyte.

Can anyone elaborate whether this is the latest model?

    • Not the latest model (7567), but the newer model (7577) just has a GTX 1060 and smaller battery at a higher price. SSD, RAM and HDD can all be upgraded.

    • did you buy this laptop how long did it take to ship? Did you get it yet?

  • I don't have to pay any extra taxes on this one right ?

    • +1

No. The seller is Dell Australia and even though they can ship from overseas, they are supplied with a GST invoice, so no additional GST is to be paid.

      • so TRS refund eligible?

        • Yep.

  • How does this compare to the i5/i7 Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro?

    • Better GPU I suppose, the looks, the build quality and thr battery life is superior on the Xiaomi.

  • Note ryzen pro is on the line now, with discrete Vega gpu,

  • So tempting, but I really want to hold off buying a laptop until next financial year for tax purposes.

    • +1

Your decision is made for you. It's sold out now

      • :(

Had one in the cart, hit Buy It Now - Came back with - The seller doesn't have that many left.

        Devastated…

          UPDATE
          Emailed Dell
They came through and added more stock
          Bought one
          Happy now

          :)

        • @GC67: did you buy this laptop how long did it take to ship? Did you get it yet?

        • @shadowrukia:

I did buy it - Received within 2 weeks - Faulty..
Track/Mousepad loose and randomly selecting left/right mouse click - Also backlit KB not working.

Received a replacement without too much (!) drama - Arrived, used for 2 days - Hated it.
Screen Bezel is HUGE - Red backlit keyboard not easy to use, found it distracting - Felt cheap 'plasticy' overall - Seemed slow, always seemed to be waiting for things to happen. I've purchased 1000's of Dell PC's, Laptops, Infrastructure over the years, I currently have 6 Dell devices at home - This is the first time I have ever returned a purchase.

Returned both, picked up yesterday actually.

I'm looking at purchasing a Dell XPS 13 9370 atm.

          Cheers

          Geoff

  • Not 8th gen i7 :(

  • +1

If only it was a 256GB SSD

    • Not only is a 128gb SSD + 1TB HDD is a better setup for a gaming notebook, it's more expensive so better value. Sell both and you can buy a 256GB HDD and have money left over.

    • 128 GB is very small considering that some A-list games now are around 50 GB in size. Games run off the 1 TB HDD will take ~ 60% longer to load.

      • Well if we are talking about 50GB games then by going from a 128GB SSD to 256GB SSD you get extra 2 games installed vs 20 from the 1TB. That is a massive difference of 10 times the amount of games that can be kept on a drive.

You say 60% like it actually really matters for gaming.

Take GTA5 for example, this game has an incredible difference between SSD and HDD with it being nearly 75% faster loading on a SSD compared to a HDD. Well that 75% equals 22 seconds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ic6ttIGZEE

In games like Subnautica the drive makes 0% difference. It's limited by CPU/RAM as to how fast it loads. It takes me 2 minutes to load regardless if it's on my NVME SSD or HDD.

In games that are competitive multiplayer - they wait for people to load in before the game starts. Unless you are running the game of an SD card, you won't be at any disadvantage if you are using a HDD over an SSD.

We are a long way off recommending SSDs as primary gaming drives considering 1TB of SSD is more expensive than 8TB of HDD. It's just not practical unless you play very few games, don't install many programs and don't keep media on your laptop.

  • How does this compare with Lenovo E480 ?

  • +1

Bought one, delivery is going to be abit of a wait I assume? Anyone had experiences on if they are faster than estimated? Estimated between Thu. 31 May. and Tue. 10 Jul.

    • did you buy this laptop how long did it take to ship? Did you get it yet?

  • I've got this laptop except with 16gb ram which won't make a difference, highly recommend.

    • Hi buddy, I got the i5 version. Do you occasionally get Blue Screen of Death?

  • This is a great laptop. I bought a similar model from 2011, it still performs better than the Lenovo Yoga 720 I bought 2 years ago… piece of crap those Lenovos.

  • can the GFX card be upgraded? would buy if so

  • For the i5 version with 256 SSD, can I add hdd myself - I mean is there space?

  • Anyone have the exact model numbers for the SSD & 1tb HD ?

    • +1

Dell uses a lot of different brands. For the SSD, expect Toshiba, Intel, Micron, Sandisk or SK Hynix. For the HDD, expect WD or Seagate. I'm not sure of the exact models unfortunately. Exact model for the SSD in my one is Toshiba THNSNK256GVN8

  • Any idea on how long it takes for delivery. It seems to take quite long shipping from Malaysia.

    • Your order was placed.
      Estimated delivery: 1 Jun – 11 Jul
We'll send you email confirmation soon.

      • did you buy this laptop how long did it take to ship? Did you get it yet?

  • If it is to be used as a business laptop, how does this compared to the E480 deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/378259 ?

    • Lenovo looks more businessy.

  • Which one is a better laptop for gaming?

This one or the Lenovo E480 deal.

This one definitely has a better graphics card, which is a big contributor.

    Any feedback is appreciated.
