  • I have a similar one, but mine is vertical, not horizontal.

    Good price though…

I've got an adaptor you purchase from me to fix that.

I'll do you a special deal.

Has anyone successfully made a Hackintosh from one of these refurb deals?

    • +3

I made one out of a HP 8300 Elite, it's running high sierra. This Dell is very similar so if the motherboard, case and power supply support a graphics card (gtx 1050 is a great choice) then it should work fine.

    • +1

      I've made one from a 9020 with a 750ti gfx card.

  • Hows the Win10 licensed? These machines would have come with Win7.

    • +1

Win7 qualified for free upgrade to Win10

      • -2

If you applied for it. It doesn't automatically qualify anymore.

So these machines come with the product key to reinstall Win10 ….. ?

        • +1

          If you applied for it.

How do you know these weren't applied at the time?

        • +1

So these machines come with the product key to reinstall Win10 ….. ?

No, once activated, Microsoft keeps a record of your PC config and reactivates an new installation.

No need for product keys anymore.

          @jv:

I don't (and nor do you), however many large corporates (which is where these came from) would have used a KMS key and not used the license on the case.

        • @psy: Have bought several of these. They have all done clean installs using the win 7 key on the box. No KMS. I've done clean installs on them myself using the same key. No probs.

        • @jv: What happens when it's time to reformat? Do I install Win7 from the key on box and then apply to upgrade via ms site?

        • @figarow: Nope, just install Win 10 directly. Shouldn't even ask you for a key if you're connected to the internet. It'll have already associated your mobo with the license key and activate automatically.

If it does ask, just enter the Win 7 key on the box - works for 10 too.

        • @ashanrath: That doesn't work when the system files are corrupted and it needs a full reformat. No way to connect to internet without an operating system.

        • +3

          @figarow:

If you have an activated version of Windows 10 installed on the PC, you can just do a clean install of Windows 10. It will activate later when you have established an internet connection.

        • @figarow: The Win 10 installer itself has network connectivity. Latest version even has Cortana chattering away while your going through the options lol. One of the first steps after language selection is network setup, so it can download latest patches during the installation.

        • @ashanrath: @jv:

What am I missing here? Without the media to install you are left with a hard drive unable to connect and install anything right?

        • @figarow:

You can create windows 10 installation media from here…

If Windows 10 was already activated on your PC, it will automatically activate after you connect to the internet.
You do NOT need to enter the windows key. Just skip that step.

    • If they're a Microsoft Certified Refurbisher, they will do cheaper licenses of Windows 10 for refurbished computers.

  • How old would this CPU be I have an i7 about 8 years old would this i5 be faster.

  • +1

Although it doesn't affect the performance, I appreciate the OPs honesty about the condition of the case.

  • +4

    Working good. Fully functional.

Please note that this item is sold as is NO returns.

I think ACCC/Paypal would disagree if I received it DOA.

    • +3

You also have the option of leaving NEGATIVE feedback, they love that…

  • Curious to know what the benefit of this box is when used i5 laptops are available for same price? Less powerful but many more advantages having a laptop which can also be used as a desktop. The only advantage I can see is for gamers.

  • +2

Desktop CPUs operate at much higher frequencies for longer, as they are higher power parts (65-90 watts for the CPU alone) whereas laptops whole system including screen, HDD, motherboard, etc all have to fit under 90 watts.

The desktops are quicker and can be repaired easier, laptops are written off if any one of the parts of it fail.

    • +1

Not to mention the portability of a 4/5 year old laptop is pretty much non existent as the battery will have about 30mins charge .

  • Grabed my self a Optiplex 9010
    AIO
    23" FHD Display
    i3 3220
    W10 PRO (W7 pro upgrade)
    8GB RAM

Off eBay a few weeks back for $117.
Added a 256GB SSD in that I had laying around.

Repasted the CPU, enabled hyperthreading in the bios and cleaned the fans and sheatsinks.

  • Can't quite make it out from the photos - do these have HDMI out (for connecting to a big screen tv)?
