I don't know what model it was, but my good friends purchased a Dyson heater that looked just like this (around $600). They tried it out for a while. They returned it for a full refund (was a promotion, trying to get people to try it out, offering full refund within 30 days, no questions asked). They then went to Bunnings and spent $80 on a heater that worked better (AKA produced more heat, faster).

i bet that $80 heater eats the same power as kmart $12 fan heater that heats faster

feel bad for those who bought one yesterday @ $575

    • therefore, need to change ozb slogan: think & wait first, buy later

      • you have the point.

  • Maybe it went out of stock earlier but there's still stock as of now! Could a mod please remove the 'expired' label please?

    • I think Bing Lee is drip-stocking this item one-at-a-time. It is out of stock again. As the OP, you can change the expiry without the assistance of a mod.

  • i can get this for $449 from dyson website using corporate discount, so not much saving.

plus after reading above comment about returning bit…

    pass…

    • I'd like to cancel my order with Bing Lee and get it for $349 as you said. Could you post the link or name the store?

      Thanks

      • Don't cancel your order with Bing Lee. He said $449, not $349.

        • +3

When I replied he had written $349. It has not been changed to add the website and corporate discount and the price has changed. I thought one couldn't alter a comment once a reply was posted.

  • But how good is this? Does it do better than a $10 one in bigW?

    • The extra $389 for the Dyson gives you that "I own a Dyson fan" feeling in a betterer way than the $10 one at Big W. Plus when your friends come around, you'll have that feeling of superiority when they admire your fan. (Apologies for people who don't have friends.)

  • Have read a mixed bag of reviews on the Dyson AM09 (product review). I have the earlier model (Dyson AM05), and regret the purchase. Noisy, cooling is abysmal, and you have to plonk yourself a metre away from the fan to feel the heat.

  • I have this fan and have it in the bathroom, probably shouldn't, works well with the kids. My daughter would touch any part of the fan and it isn't hot, even the middle part. I wouldn't buy it if I didnt have kids.

    • How loud would you say it is please?

      • There is 10 fan speeds so I don't know how to answer your question. Like you can stand next to it and hold a conversation no problems even when its max.
If you need decibel readings then a review site might have that.

  • According to choice second best heater, after another Dyson, running cost on max $1.20/ 2 hrs.

  • I don't understand why these have been popular enough to commercially manufacture.

Once you understand how it works you realize why they're so poor. They just have crappy enclosed fans and heating elements with thin exhaust ports. They are sold as if they are magically tossing air out of the center hole, but the "illusion" is weaker than the reality in "Reality TV".

If you have kids there are traditional ways of keeping them away from hot things and spinning blades. Don't waste your cash.

    • They don't just push the air that is drawn in by the fan in the pedestal.

      • Sure. It sucks in the air around it. 15x as much. I don't think so! People wouldn't be complaining about them being weak and ineffective. also no matter how many fancy terms you come up with to describe the air around being sucked in, fans do that - just much more directly. Don't fall for the marketing.

useless really if you're using in it in a big room, if you turn it up it's very noisy.
