This is not a true 10 megapixel webcam, it's only 10 megapixels interpolated.

In basic english terms, the image of the camera is blown up and magnified using driver software to a ten megapixel resolution. However the camera's CMOS sensor itself might not even be anything close to say, 2 megapixels.

After the image is taken, the software driver takes a guess as to what the picture should look like at a ten megapixel resolution and then adds extra pixels in order to increase the resolution of the image.

This article probably explains it much better than i can.

    • oh according to the above info - max TRUE resolution is 0.3mpx (640x480) - Nothing like fudging your numbers by 33x to impress.

It's not the megapixel that counts, it's the quality of the lens and sensor. You can get many cheap generic webcams at 10 or even 12 mp for cheaper than this, but they are rubbish.

ability to focus and detect changing light source is also very important in webcams. Thats why you always get that ghost white on crappy webcams.

If these are the same ones sold by a company called "No Worries USB", they are pretty good.

You can't really use even 2 megapixels as a webcam. Try streaming smooth 640x480 over aussie intenet connections for a reality check on bandwidth and video resolution.

In this case, it seems to be a 640x480 sensor but can only do 320x240 at 30 frames per second. At 640x480 it's only 15 FPS which is choppy but OK for skype etc I guess.

    • Yeah first thing I thought was how ridiculous streaming 10 megapixel video would be. Unless you're cool with 0.5 FPS

  • FYI, there is an app for android phones which turns your phone into a webcam

    • That's pretty cool. Any recommended programs?

Theres one called Mobiola which you can use on any phone with a camera.

        • That doesn't appear to support Android.

Oh my bad, I'll do thorough research before posting next time. Some how my cousin got it to work on his android O.o

  • Clearly a misleading advertised "Deal". Take the 10 megapixel crap out of the title. Product is rubbish.

    • Agreed, it's a standard low res 0.3 megapixel web cam. And as HeXa points out, it's cheaper elsewhere.

  • This thing is cheap, not '10mp'….

  • 10MP……..

  • Did you just stop reading at 10MP? If you look at the rest of the specs you posted it clearly states it only does 320x240 at any decent frame rate. Sorry to say the 10MP is just marketing garbage.
