  • Hmmm. You could diy this. Nodemcu chip. Solenoid valve. Relay. Would be a lot cheaper.

    • Have you got a tutorial?

    • Imagine programming it wouldn't be as easy as the app makes it, which is part of the cost?

    • +1

Rachio has a very good smart-app which would be nigh-impossible for a DIY hobbyist to match.

  • I wonder if there are cheaper solutions out there i.e. with Alibaba and the likes.

  • +1

Good price on one of the best-rated wireless irrigation controllers.

Be aware no Homekit support as yet, because Apple only recently added Irrigation and Sprinkler profiles to Homekit. It's also uncertain whether Rachio will retrofit Homekit support to their old-products or whether it will only be supported on new-products.

    • Not many times will you say siri turn on sprinklers. Most of the time it will be schedules

      • +1

Homekit is more than Siri. Homekit also allows integration between Rachio and other non-Rachio devices. For example integrating Rachio irrigation with Philips Hue lights and Elgato Eve sensors.

        • Home Assistant can do alot more then that, and also integrates with Homekit

  • Do these use universal voltage or 110v only?

    • Can't 100% tell however from the basic research I just did it would seem the US ones are supplied with '110V only' Plugpacks. I recently had this exact problem when buying my Orbit B-Hyve Controller (details below). Mind boggling why Multi-Voltage Plugpacks still aren't an International standard.

      • Cheaper to make 110v only but it's not hard to replace most standard external plug packs.

  • I believe xiaomi is on the way..may be smart wifi sprinkler +lawn mowing.

  • These look good however I went for the Orbit B-Hyve as they can be programmed via buttons and an LCD as well as via wifi/App. Very handy and great redundancy if/when the other tech fails. They're also rated for outdoor use but are still compact enough to mount indoors so they offer ultimate flexibility. Was expecting hours of fuss to install & setup but I was very pleased when I had water flowing after only about 15mins. Been working perfectly ever since (6+ months).

Managed to get a few B-Hyves direct from the US over the last 6 months for around the $80-85 USD mark with around $30 USD Postage which works out to around $140-150 AUD landed. They have inbuilt 110V Transformers which is a pain but easily fixed by using a $27 24VAC Plugpack from Jaycar (https://www.jaycar.com.au/mains-adaptor-24vac-1a-unregulated…) with only a bit of basic DIY effort required. $170-$180 AUD total investment and they work really nicely. Works with Alexa and it looks like specific (newer) models work with Homekit.

There is also a newer 'no-button' model of the Orbit B-Hyve which seems identical to the Rachio in this deal. It can be had for $180 AUD Shipped: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Orbit-8-Zone-B-hyve-Indoor-Timer… but like the Rachio will need a 240V Power Supply. All good though because the 24VAC Jaycar Plugpack in the link above will work perfectly with this too.

    • I'm sure you can get cheaper power adapters eg search ebay item 202120736297
