Great sale, Janette says she loves a good dutch oven.

    • thanks John, just learned a new word! will get in touch with Janette asap

    nice im in

  • +7

This stuff surprisingly isn't garbage - Ive had the Dutch oven for about 2.5 years now and compared to my Chasseur stuff, sure it doesn't clean as well etc….but still does a good job for the price. And they come up every year so you can just ditch it and buy another one the next year.

    • Or you could take advantage of more lucrative and sustainable Ozb deals and not send a bunch of Aldi crap to landfill every 12 months 🤷🏻‍♂️

      • +4

Actually sometimes its good for the environment to send trash to the landfill.

        Take yourself for example.

        • Wow the aldi-loving ozbargainers are just as bogan and sassy as aldi’s in-store clientele 😂 triggered lol.

        • +1

Both were probably being tongue in cheek, however it's nice(?) to know there's always a snowflake ready on hair-trigger. ;-p

          @bohdud:

The ironing of this post. And the fake lols and emojis.

Oh boy I got a triggered in the bag XD

        • @takutox: I didn’t neg you but also your comment doesn’t make sense. Here’s another emoji just for you 😘

        • @bohdud:

Wow. Even needs to confirm didn't neg. Didn't mean to trigger you that hard buddy. All in good fun XD

        • @takutox: well i was just trying to be amicable since we are all part of the OzB fam ✌️ (can’t stop the emojis now)

        • @bohdud:

Keep clawing back at your broken ego. That's it mate.

        • @takutox: I can hear your butthurt from here. Commiserations.

        • @bohdud:

          Lel hurt ego still going.

Aussie disposals have a similar frying pan (without the shitty enamal coating) or $13 this week
    https://www.aussiedisposals.com.au/square-cast-iron-frypan-w…

    • thanks for the heads-up. I'm going to grab one tomorrow.

    • +2

They have a selection of other pots and pans as well. Sadly no stores anywhere near me.

      • +1

Delivery is suprisingly reasonable given the weight of them though.

  • +2

My wife loves a dutch oven.

    • 🤣😂

    • What's the normal price ?

    • Gave mine one last night. She wasn't a big fan.

Which is lucky because I married a human.

    • The first comment already made that joke.

    • What's you secret? My husband isn't a fan 😂

      • Do it when you're giving him a treat.

  • Pity they have the enamel coating, which only lasts a few years and is less 'nonstick' than a nicely seasoned plain cast iron pan.

Looking at SolidTeknics as an iron alternative but costs a lot more.

    • +1

Paid around 70 smackers for my large Lodge Cast Iron pan, it takes a little to get used to (uneven heat distribution on small electro plate, very very heavy and therefore manually difficult to handle), but I still love it and wouldn't switch back to anything else.

      • Heat cast iron up in the oven to get a good even heat up if you have the time.

      • Where did you get it from? And is the cooking surface the same as the sides, or is it much smoother? (I have what would have been a cheap and nasty cast iron frypan from a few decades ago, but it has a much smoother cooking surface - done by the manufacturer, not from years of cooking. I never see the same thing when I look at cast iron cookware today.)

        • +1

I have both Lodge and Aldi cast iron pans - the Lodge has a smoother surface.

    • +2

Had a SolidTeknics 30cm pan for 3 weeks and now will only buy that brand for all stoveware - loving it. Eggs unexpectedly aren't sticking and probably only half way there as far as seasoning goes.

Comparison - a $200 Le Creuset toughened non-stick, metal utensil safe fry pan I bought at the same time purely for omelettes - scratched on first use due to I have no idea, as only stirred with wooden spoon and cleaned with a non-scouring sponge and treat such things sacred. The salt I added to the omelette mixture? Absolute garbage.

I bought both from Kitchen Warehouse but wouldn't recommend them as they handled the Le Creuset issue with a 'you must have done something wrong' attitude.

      • +1

funny. Every experience I've read about online is the exact opposite with both Le Creuset products and their service.

        • -1

1 out 1 is 'every'. Took me 5 seconds to find https://www.productreview.com.au/p/le-creuset-tns-frypan.htm… with half the people also claiming the non-stick is crap, the other half have only had them a few months. Not that that means anything other that showing you how pointless your statement is. No-one treats omelette pans better than I do, so if they scratch, their claims are faulty. I'm now using a brand new cloth to clean this POS each time just so so there's no chance of the cloth being contaminated with a coffee granule or something. A test of lightly dragging the blunt end of a fork does scratch it, despite their claims of metal utensil safe. I wouldn't have hesitated in their position to ask for it to be sent back for analysis, but somehow I think they know they have issues.

        • @Janko: That pan is not the cast iron one. I would say don't get anything that they aren't good at, it would be like if Ferrari started making lawn mowers.

          https://www.productreview.com.au/p/le-creuset-french-oven.ht…

I too can paste links to support my point of view.

      • +2

I've had a Le Creuset casserole pot for 9 years and looks almost new in spite of metal utensils and dishwasher use. It's bloody indestructible.

    • Yeah. Seems to discolor above 250c, and my pan seems to get to that level even on med heat.

    • +1

I bought a SolidTeknics Ausion 28cm pan 9mths ago and love it. Just bought a 18cm one to match it last week from Kitchen Warehouse. Highly recommend them if you are looking for a cast iron-type pan.

Because it's wrought steel, it's much lighter. I think because there's less actual mass it doesn't have quite as good heat retention, but worthwhile trade-off for me.

I ended up paying near full price for both, but because I expect them to last forever, I preferred buying what I wanted rather than something cheaper and later wanting to upgrade.

They seemed to be harder to find in australia compared to 9mths ago. I think the company has set up a factory in US and are spending more time marketing their products there.

    • Different beasts for different purposes. You want the enameled cast iron for cooking acidic foods.

  • Pubg pan why not

  • They are filled with radioactive material. You must pays hundreds for real, safe, French ones 😀

Features include all in brawl with grannies upon pickup.

    • +1

Grannies won't be able to lift them up. Also, if you can't beat up a granny, you don't deserve a pan.

      • If they can lift a 3 piece lounge set, they can surely lift a pan!

        • They carry more than that in coins down at the pokies.

      • When that many grannies get together they can be like piranha.

        • +1

          That's nonna issue.

Not the first time I've gotten a dutch oven from a german giant.

  • +2

Litres are a weird unit of measurement for a blanket

  • ALDI good, different.

  • +3

A Dutch oven is a slang term for lying in bed with another person and pulling the covers over the person's head while flatulating, thereby creating an unpleasant situation in an enclosed space. This is done as a prank or by accident to one's sleeping partner. (Source: Wikipedia)

You did it, you made the joke funnier by explaining it

  • I bought the griddle pan a few years back and have found it a nightmare to clean - only cook snags on it (havent really found a good use for it tbh). I have a harris scarfe casserole pot which seems to do the job…

  • TEFAL is on half price at bigw also

  • -4

I have pretty much given up on Aldi cr@p. The last thing I bought a month or so ago was a grater. I put it in the dishwasher before the first use to make sure it was clean. Took it out of the dishwasher and the bloody handle separated from the grater (it was seriously held in by a gob of silicon). Total cr@p. Although I should just take it back and get my money refunded - I'm not going to make a special trip and will forget anyway when i do go again. Auf Wiedersehen Aldi….

    • -3

I don’t understand all this Aldi hype. They are marketing geniuses and suck everyone in. I’ll never forget the Dyson sale they did. I saw articles and heard reports of hundreds queuing for some first generation Dyson, when BigW had the latest gen (v6 vs v1) for the same price.

      People are idiots.

    I've had C and D for 5+ years. They're great.

    • +1

Maybe you should set your goals higher.

  • Need a induction compatible frypan. Will one of these do the job

    • These will work fine with induction, but heat them up a bit slower than for other cookware or you risk cracking the enamel.

  • I came here for the jokes and was not disappointed. Many dads in the OzBargain community

  • I've never gone for one of these Aldi sales but i'm keen on the dutch oven and french pan. Will I need to line up early on Saturday get a hold of them?

    • +1

I very much doubt it, although maybe the particular colour you want might be gone if you wait too long.
