  • Does this need a step down transformer?

    • No.

Although it will need one of these Australian IEC power cords to replace the European power cord which will come with it.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/jackson-1-2m-replacement-iec-pow…

      • says "to fill bigger rooms" which could be a problem with inner city living or the cost of space in general ….I have a 7.2 denon amp from last deal but only space for 2 speakers :-(

I can see the day when space will be less and I watch movies infront of my PC monitor.

My neighbour bought an old van and has it parked in the street and pays rego so it doesn't get towed, never drives it … uses it as an extra room / self storage he reckons for $800 per year it's cheaper than renting a 2 bedroom place instead of 1 or space at Kennards and they aren't outside his flat … ahh the joys of St Kilda.

P.S amazon deliver fast from Germany and if the GST kicks in in July your august but of a decent amp will be 10% more.

    Europe is 220V so no.

    • +1

According to the picture on the Amazon product page of the back of this Marantz receiver it's showing 230V, 50/60Hz. So yeah it will work here.

Also there's no need to use a travel adapter. According to the same picture it uses a removable standard IEC AC power cord. Just buy one of those Australian IEC power cords from Bunnings, Jaycar Electronics, Officeworks etc to replace the European one and it's easy as that. It's a common power cable that's used on computers and some kitchen appliances etc. The cord is only $5.80 at Bunnings, $5.83 at Officeworks.

      • People should have one lying around if they've ever built a pc :)

        • +3

Ha, I doubt that anyone has just one.

I have a box of about 50 of them. And I haven't built more than 1/10th that many PCs. I suspect they multiply of their own accord. Or that lost odd socks transmute into these cables.

  • Has all the features, but no Chromecast or even Chromecast Audio?

    • Isn't that what the Chromecast itself is for?. That hardware technology is proprietary and belongs to Google so it's no surprise that this doesn't have those features. And i guess they wouldn't want to be sued by Google in the first place.

      • +2

There's a lot of receivers out there with support for chromecast or chromecast audio. It's just google's equivalent of airplay (which this receiver does have)

  • How does this compare to the NR1518/1618?

  • following

      Be a leader!

  • +1

Definitely no local warranty. Since Marantz does not sell direct to retailers in Ausralia like they do overseas. They instead sell through a local distributor. Hence the higher price in Australia due to markup by distributor and then retailer.

  • Preorder?

Could cop gst because the rules change in 5 weeks.

    • I heard that it goes by the date of purchase. So you should be ok.

      • If that's true, it still depends on whether purchase date means the order date or payment date, because Amazon don't bill until shipping.

Also I bought a denon and that took two weeks to ship despite being in stock. So that might push shipping dates back.

  • +1

I bought last years SR5011 from amazon.de. Highly recommend it. Super fast shipping from Amazon germany and it's easily the best home theatre receiver i've owned (and i've owned a few). Also, no need for a step down power converter either unlike stuff from Amazon US.

  • Pulled. Now the wait.

  • AirPlay, Bluetooth, Internet Radio, Spotify Connect, Pandora, SiriusXM, Napster, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Deezer and more > Access to almost unlimited online music sources

—- is this integration via a mobile app or is the receiver h/w able to natively access these sources ?

    • I have an older receiver (NR1607) and it does Bluetooth, airplay and internet radio without any apps. I'm not subscribed to the others so can't test those.

    • internet radio some stations are native (might not include the ones you want ) you register at the internet radios chip makers' portal and add stations (the ones you do want) to favourites …and hope internet radio chip maker doesn't close down portal.

not sure about other music providers.

  • This or the Denon?

    • This is about equivalent to the next model up from the Denon linked, the 3400. From what I noticed in my brief look, this has multichannel preouts, multichannel analogue inputs and a bit more power. Probably worth it if you need any of those things now or in the future.

Edit: just followed the link, didn't realise you linked to an old post for the 3400 as the 2400 has also just recently been posted.

    • The Denon looks like have zone 2 HDMI out vs none for this one.

However it is now listed at EUR 629
