  • Wonder if there's been a noticeable price hike to cover costs?

    • +1

      i believe so!

      • Anyone had a look at the site through a UK proxy? I'd do it myself, but my internet is capped atm :(

    • most of the full price stuff that i've ordered (which is alot) previouslt seem to have the same price
Maybe we can expect to see less sales, less discounts or discount codes?

    • +3

They no longer refund VAT to overseas customers, so free shipping really is the least they could do!!

  • love it.. impeccable timing.

  • This site is fantastic and with free shipping even better!

    anyone have any discount codes?

  • yay !!!

  • is it permanent?? omg i am going to spend so much!

    • i wanna know this too.

  • way to damage my CC sigh

  • Chillax

  • tbh i dont remember their shipping being that expensive to begin with. i comfortably spent 100pounds the other day and if my memory serves me right shipping was about 5 pounds.

    • +1

Their postage was more expensive several months ago (and was not a flat rate, it depended on weight), but then they permanently introduced the 5 pound flat shipping to Australia which is very reasonable IMO. Free shipping is better though :-)

      • I've bought ASOS on average every 2 months for a year and a half now, and shipping was 10.50 pounds for standard previously, and 20 pounds for express.. Then they had free shipping for Christmas, and after that dropped it to 5 pounds for standard and 20 pounds for shipping. I've never gotten charged by weight. That said, I've only ever shopped from the main site (www.asos.com), never any of their other branches (e.g. the US one).

I've noticed the delivery times have increased greatly for standard shipping though, which probably explains the reduction in shipping cost. My latest purchase is currently 1 day late and counting (just a couple of months back before Xmas it would arrive at least 10 days ahead of schedule).

        • Just checked my order history and back in 08/2009 they were still charging by weight (that order, and all prior). From next order 02/2010, they then seemed to introduce the 10.50 flat shipping. They have had quite a lot of free shipping promos which I have taken advantage of :-/

Delivery has been strange- there were huge delays due to the snow situation in the UK, but then my order made just before Xmas arrived 5 days early. I would have expected similar from my current order, which is now 2 days late and counting!

        • They sent me an email to say add 5 days to expected delivery date and it's been delayed because of weather.. Wonder if they'll honour their policy of 10% off the next order if it's late?

Getting annoyed because I bought a McQueen dress for a wedding on Friday and I don't know if it'll be on time!

Damn some of there stuff is expensive… $200US for a Sweatshirt?

  • can someone explain the VAT thing?

i've never had a vat refund before,
was this taken out automatically usualy or ?

    thanks

    • They no longer issue VAT refunds. This was effective from around June/July last year.

      • ok so was the VAT included into the price of the item
didn't really notice a price rise round june/july

        thanks

        • VAT has always been included, except on children's items as they are VAT exempt even to UK citizens. ASOS allege they were returning VAT after purchase as a good will gesture. I thought it was something companies were required to do if items were purchased and posted outside of the UK but I guess I was wrong. I've not noticed any price rises personally, however, I have only really purchased children's clothes and shoes.

Usually on 90% of UK shopping sites, VAT is charged, however after you select Australia as the shipping destination, it will automatically deduct/refund the VAT, as VAT is the tax for England, so similar to GST here. If we sell goods to someone not residing in Australia, we should not be charging GST.

so basically ….we are being ripped off.

I've been really happy with my Asos orders and the prices, for eg got a ghd at 50% of what I'd pay in Australia and that was including VAT.

However, out of principle I think we should petition Asos to introduce a VAT free checkout from non UK purchasers. If enough people put pressure on them, we might get a result!

Free shipping was only ever worth $9 pounds.

Since the free shipping has been introduced, prices have hiked DOUBLE in the items i want to buy more of.

I was going to reorder a shirt I brought prior to christmas, as the fit was so good, and great quality, I've gone into ASOS now, compared the difference to what i paid prior to christmas….

Shirt brought prior to christmas :

    ASOS Pussybow Blouse With Pocket - Camel / UK 8 1 $25.86

    the same shirt now :

    ASOS Pussybow Blouse With Pocket
    $51.72

    THATS DOUBLE THE PRICE…….WTF!?!??!?!?!!?

I"m not sure how to post a screen shot of my receipt from my previous order…..

    • +4

      hehehehe she said "pussybow"

      • yes…thats the style of the shirt

        • +1

Didn't know there were that many females on Ozbargain. That's a lot of negs.

    • +4

Actually the price hike probably isn't due to the free shipping - it happened when the new year sale ended and the items went into the regular clearance section. The same happened last year.

There was about a week between the sale ending and this free shipping deal being introduced, which suggests its just their latest promo. And it won't be permanent, since it says "usually X price" on the page.

      • +1

totally agree, lisss made an excellent and supportive point. if the stock becomes low, usually the price goes up. this is sort of commonsense.

        • 4 of the 5 tops were regular items and not on clerance, only one was on clerance which is not available anymore.

so….it must be a coincidence that all 4 of the tops which were regular priced tops and not clearance items have doubled in price!?!?

Last year when items were out of stock they just put next to the sizing - Not available, prices werent jacked up at all.

I know this as i was stalking a dress which was out of stock for 3 months, and when stock came in the size became available……so no they do not jack up the price when stock was low.

        • yinyin don't forget the vat went up in January as well.

  • i made a purchase on this website 2 weeks ago
there was a coupon code for spending over $100 pounds for free shipping on the site as i was checking out…
i bought nudie jeans for 160 aussie dollars including 3 cheapy belts.. rrp for the jeans is $240 ( General pants)

    • how is nudie jeans, is it good? how is it compared to Diesel?

      • Their cuts are pretty good. Quality wise its decent, especially the selvedge range, i wouldn't pay aussie retail prices, but ASOS prices are pretty reasonable.

        • thanks. i would try them on in an aussie shop as i did with diesel:)

    • +4

It's a bargain because plenty of people love to shop at ASOS to begin with - and when it's on sale, it's usually pretty cheap and affordable. So free shipping = even better! :)

      • -2

There is still no bargain on this site. Its more of an info post that should be in the forums.

Everything is being sold at full hock. How is that in the spirit of OzBargain.

        eg.

        Lacoste Pique Polo Shirt
        @ ASOS £65.00.
        @ ukralphlaurenshop.com £26.90

free shipping does not cover that.

all the other things I searched for proved it was just full hock or the same as everyone else is selling for.

According to the OzBargain rules we can't post deals that aren't active (ie Site sometimes has bargains or is usually cheap), so we can't use that argument.

And also just because people might like shopping at a site, doesn't mean we should be promoting that site. Plenty of bargain can be had on ebay or amazon etc, but doesn't mean a deal should be made just about that site.

Lots of places overseas are cheaper than prices in Aus. Should we just close OzBargan and tell people just to buy everything overseas because its all a bargain compared to Aus?

  • Woohoo!! :)

  • Has anyone bought men's shoes from there? How is the quality?

    • i'd imagine it would depend on the brand.
i've bought heaps from asos in the past and noticed the asos branded stuff is generally below average in quality. i'd never buy asos branded stuff. thats just me though.
the proper branded stuff is authentic so it would be of quality you'd expect from that particular brand.

    • ASOS is essentially an online DFO. It sells both in-house label and regular brands. The 'regular' brands will be pretty much the same quality as ones you buy here.

  • Never bought before…. but are the prices on this site as good as you'll find on any other online clothes shop?

    • Best to shop around first as the prices are not always the cheapest.

  • Hey what happen to coupon code? I recalled it was in the title description and in some peoples comments, but they have now gone- it was something like 5 bucks off every 25 bucks? cmon people

  • Yesterday I ordered a couple of kids clothing items, total value £5. E-mail today saying that they've been dispatched. Postage cost alone has got to be close to £5 so has got to be a bargain!
