      1. Go to the link: https://www.dropbox.com/dropquest2011

      2. Answer the questions. Use these hints provided on the Forum post

      3. If you get all correct, you are awarded 1GB extra storage. People who finish fast are given extra stuff, but this competition is 2 days in already. So no guarantees you will get anything.

      • haha yeah
        it started on that date
        thanks!

  • Great! Thanks for the info

  • Was a good time waster at work today. I found most of it too bizarre to figure out without a simple google search.

  • +7

    SPOILER ALERT
I found this cheat quite easy to follow (I'm supposed to be working you know)…

    http://en.dogeno.us/2011/01/quickest-way-to-finish-dropquest…

  • +6

Or you could just sign up for SugarSync instead, and get 5GB free right out of the gates…

Link, since it's not obvious from their front page:
    https://www.sugarsync.com/signup?startsub=5

    • wow even more space? why use dropbox then?

      • +1

        I prefer Dropbox for it's drop-dead simplicity.

Sugarsync is more customisable, but if you just need something that works, with no work on your part, Dropbox is the way to go.

Also: Linux support is something Sugarsync has yet to work on. Dropbox has Win/Mac/Linux covered.

  • damn that haiku one!

  • +2

Thanks for this, sure took a while and don't think I would have gotten half of it, if it wasn't for the great ozbargainers posting links to "cheat sheets" :)

  • +3

Wow, that was epic in its difficulty.
Kudos to those who managed to do this challenge without any help!

    • +3

      that was pretty bloody hard
even with some of the answers i still had no idea how they got one of them!

bonus points for the chrono trigger reference lol

  • +1

wtf at the people getting 10 seconds. i just did another speedrun and it took 4 minutes and i'm still 74000th!

    • +1

People using cheats and hacks… so there's probably no way of even getting into the top thousand of the Hall of Fame.

I got pretty stuck, in the end with the cheat sheet I completed in 1 hour 10 min. Sucks…

      • +2

        just do what zzyss
Or you could just sign up for SugarSync instead, and get 5GB free right out of the gates…

Link, since it’s not obvious from their front page:
        https://www.sugarsync.com/signup?startsub=5

you do it in like 10 seconds and you have 5GB
        and 500mb per referral

    • it's not ranked by the time it takes to finish it

    • it's ranked by how long ago they finished it

      • how long ago they finished it

Nope. You are scored by how long you take to finish it.
The timer starts counting down as soon as you begin the first step of the quest.

  • +1

This is too hard, thanks anyway

  • I only got 640MB for linking my FB and Twitter….. :(

  • +2

With an edu email account Dropbox gives double the referral bonus (500mb).
Details I have posted on the forums a while ago: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/32198

There are also free methods to refer yourself to up your space upto 20GB in total (so you dont have to spam others).
If interested plz email me privately as I want to keep it this way as long as possible.

  • sweet, free space. Thanks!

  • +5

There's no way I could finish that without the cheat sheet. took me like 3hrs because I gave up, had dinner, then used the cheat sheet

  • +5

Pretty fun; Good on Dropbox for trying something different! :)

    Quickest way to finish #dropquest 2011 - http://en.dogeno.us/2011/01/quickest-way-to-finish-dropquest…

    • +1

      This was an excellent guide..
Finished in about 30 minutes, including 10 minutes without a guide.

    • +1

Brilliant guide. All done in 14 minutes!

  • +1

Managed to complete it when I thought it didn't work for the 2nd step. Thanks :) Though I doubt I'll be using 3GB anytime soon, haha!

  • I used the following but it trailed off track a bit
    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=418833&page=1

anyway got my 1GB about 6 hours after starting - not all time spent on it though :)

  • thanks.

  • When I get to step 2, there is no place for me to put to answer, except a link that goes to the forum (after saying "Once you've got an answer, you should probably head to the forum next). Where do you put your answer? Am I missing something?

    • you got the answer 284 and that refer to the forum post id 284.
Anyway, look at the cheating sheet and don't waste your time on solving the puzzles, unless you enjoy it. It has been a few days and there's no chance to get more than 1GB I reckon.

      • I see! Great! Thanks! Done it!

  • This is a nice post, esp with the cheating sheet :)

    • +5

That's a pretty poor reason for a neg. Dropbox is popular for delivering a very dependable product.

Plus, this deal is valid for ALL Dropbox users. So those that have subscriptions and pay can use this too.

      • +2

        yeah
Dropbox users greatly appreciate this offer

    • +1

Thanks for the links, but many on this thread liked the idea of solving puzzles and getting a reward.

    • I don't agree with you. Dropbox works great for me across all my platforms: Archlinux, Ubuntu, Windows, Android, and all for Free. I am currently having 6.6GB after this promotion and it's far more than enough for work and those really need sync. I put family videos on mediafile and it seems to be unlimited space there, however Dropbox is all about sync and access easily, it does an excellent job and costs me not even a cent.

      • I'm with ya mily.

I had used only 3% of my 2.5gb (now 3.5gb) so the space was more than enough.
The dropquest was a small novelty thing that came with a reward.

    • Some people actually prefer Dropbox though, especially if they own 1Password & need to sync

    • what are the differences?

  • Thanks for this. Nice cheat sheet there lol. I would free bad if I had to spend hours to get this 1GB. Might as well get a new SDCard on my phone instead…

  • What is dropbox? I never heard of it before.

    • It's online storage.

You can either install the client and it will create a folder on your PC that links with the dropbox server, synchronizing after files are changed.

Alternatively, you can access it through a web interface and download or upload files. It's quite handy for collaborating or even so you don't have to carry all your documents/files around on a USB. It can also be used for larger files if you have the kind of bandwidth to support it. Also nice for off-site backups without having to provide your own remote location.

    • +1

Check it out its awesome. Basically its like sharing a folder(s) between all your computers and their website. So when you put a file in a folder in the directory on computer A, it gets automatically synced to computer B, C and so on. The file is then available in your account on the website too so you can access it anywhere.
There is also apps on iphone etc to access your files.

They have a little video on what it does on their homepage, have a look.

      EDIT: Beaten by domingo :)

  • in total i have 5.1gb. thats with this, the bonuses, and referring friends.

    dropbox is so win.

  • Wow, most of the quiz questions were so hard I wouldn't have been able to solve it without using the guide! But it's still good fun :)

Hey guys, don't mean to spam this thread as I don't like spamming, but in case anyone's keen for extra storage space for free then sign up via my Referral Link below:

    http://db.tt/ebLE6NS

Both you and I will get an extra 250mb - 500 mb space on DropBox free!

    Thanks guys, dropbox rocks!

    • Thanks to "Revsion Tam" for using my referral link.. enjoy the extra space :-)

      • +1

By the way guys, as noted above by Vertixy, remember to link your account to a .edu email address and all of your extra 250mb's will be doubled to 500 mb for free! it's a fantastic offer so make the mot of it while its available.

Cloud storage/backup is definitely the way of the future, and dropbox being free is a no-brainer :)

        • I don't know about this, I have a .edu email and if I knew it earlier, my DB storage could be more than 9G by now.
          Thanks for the hint.

        • +1

          Hey Mily,

you can still take advantage of this double referral bonus storage offer (250 mb -> 500 mb) as it is retrospective - meaning, if you link your Dropbox account now, you will double your max storage for every referral you've done, even if they were done a year or two ago..

This increases your max possible referral space to 16 gigs..

Just link and you'll see your storage double..enjoy!

        • Yes, it works. Just checked my account and it's 9.4G already. I am surprised they boost my post referral as well, and also surprised how accurate the estimation I made on the size.

        • Yep, great to hear it worked well Mily, its such a great promotion they've got going on atm

    • thanks!

      • No worries mate! :-)

        • Hi ILoveOZB,

What did you mean by "link your Dropbox account now"? I signed up with a .edu email, but still all my referrals only got me 250Mb instead of 500Mb. Is there something else I need to do to get the extra bonus? Thx.

        • Found the answer to my question about the edu email verification. For those who have the same question, see :

          http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2268071

          Cheers

        • hey Tekken,

I know you've found your answer, but for anyone else curious, see this link:
