Netgear Arlo Pro 2 4 Camera Kit (VMS4430P) $806.65 + Shipping from Wireless 1

630
EGG15

Browsing for Arlo Pro 2 kit for family and stumbled across wireless 1 selling the 4 camera kit for $949 (+$13.75 shipping for me in Metro Melbourne).

A quick google turned up a 15% off netgear code bringing the price down to $806.65 before shipping, which is $7 more than the recent JB deal but you get an extra camera.

HN has this for $1399 (Hahahaha)
Device deals has this for $1199 shipped.

They never ran on special batteries that cost $30 each. They are rechargable now.

      • They charge pretty quickly too and last 3-6 months depending on usage.

        • +2

Try 2-4 weeks when facing street side :)

        • @bnh: Anything worthwhile in regards to footage?

        • @jlogic: nope. Zoned it so only record anything moving behind the fence but battery still a shocker.

    • -1

To replace the battery you looking at ~$50.00. One of my battery needs replacing within a year (still under warranty) of buying and always used it indoors.

The Arlo 1 takes 4 X CR123A batteries which are available for $1 each online. Total cost for battery replacement is $4. If you paid $50 you got ripped off.

        • 1 dollar each? Link please. I have never see anything at that price range

Check the battery forums for places to buy cheap. I haven't used them for years but used to pay $1 each in bulk out of Asia.

eBay are generally $1.50 to $2.00 each.

        • @Maverick-au
Are we not talking about Arlo Pro and Pro 2 here…?

Here's the link for the Battery I'm talking about

No you responded to a post about the Arlo 1.

  • Would JB price match this place?

    • Also interested.

    • Probably not with the discount code.

A JB Deal applies to identical products in stock at both the competitor and the relevant JB Hi-Fi store at the time of price matching. The competitor price must be verified by JB Hi-Fi. Online price comparisons must include any delivery costs. Exclusions apply for cash back offers and store credits, bonus and bundled promotions, coupon promotions, grey or direct import products not sold through an authorised Australian reseller, commercial orders, competitor advertising errors, and competitor clearance products or products with limited or restricted quantities.

Ps arlo / netgear has a potential password leak
So best to change your password
    https://www.databreaches.net/arlo-advises-customers-to-chang…

    • Maybe I'm misreading that but isn't Netgear saying that someone is using credentials obtained from a dump to test if anyone recycled passwords on Arlo?

  • Excellent deal - well priced - sadly 2 weeks 2 soon… I am purchasing in 2 weeks when I have The cash, I hope the price and discount code sticks around

    • do you have credit card with price protection?

    • +1

If you don't have $1000 worth of savings then you probably don't need an expensive camera.

  • If we are building a new house and want cameras like these street side and backyard view - what will I have to tell the electrician in terms of wiring etc

    • No, it runs on battery, you just need to have a wireless connection.

    • +2

If you’re building a house and the electrician is already there, I’d get some cat6 cable ran to wherever you want your cameras. Wired are more reliable in my experience

      • Nothing unreliable about Arlo 2's in the 6 months I've had them.

        • +1

Legitimately interested to hear if they’re working fine in a few years though. All my hikvision cameras installed over four years ago are all still working without any problems/maintenance required (eg battery change)

      • -1

You can't say wired cameras are "more" reliable "in your experience" if you haven't used wireless. You can say wired cameras are reliable.

  • Does it come with power cable if you want to plug it in?

    • Yes it does, but i think it's only one. For the 3 cam one, not sure about the 4 camera one

    • It uses micro USB although the manual says to only use "original" charger.

    • Power cable is only for indoor use.

  • +1

Ugh bought the 3 cameras for 865 not too long ago

  • Still more expensive than Argus.

    • What is Argus?

      • Reolink Argus, also completely wireless, around $100 AUD each

  • Awesome… just bought one! (and fingers crossed they dont discount this even further ;) )

    • +1

A good deal in hand is worth 2 in the bush….

      T

      • haaa haaa.. Amen to that!

  • Are these wirth the $$$ ? Never thought I wanted one until now but don't want to jump on the wagon if there's a cheaper option.

    • Get a decent PC / NAS and camera setup for the same price that will easily outperform the Arlo.. (Ie: Hikvision cameras, etc).

  • Don't you need an online subscription of some sort for additional features?

    • +1

Nope. That’s one of the reasons I jumped in with this. You get 7 days storage for free always. So basically once the cost of purchase is out of the way it’s free to operate.

For domestic use I don’t see value in the paid tiers.

      • +1

So what happens if your on holidays for 2 weeks?

        • It records a constant content of last 7 days. If you need to view anything more than 7 days, you can do the paid subscription though it's probably not worth it unless you really need it, then you should be getting a different kind of CCTV then..

        • you also have the option to record to hdd… =)

        • @moorey: Yeah sounds like a limit of a 7 day window doesn't really cut the mustard as far being restricted on available footage. Its not until you've discovered you require said footage it becomes pointless have a limiting setup, but each to there own, been there done that.

        • @moorey:

They charge you (normally) over $1000 for 4 cameras, then make you pay for a subscription so you can see your footage when you want (yes I know about the “7 days free” - how generous)? What a joke!

  • Is this only discounted for the 4 camera version?
I can’t see the discount on the 2 camera or baby cam.

  • I was just wondering whether the stream still times out when you want to leave the footage Streaming 24/7. I've read that it happens even when you use rhe wired setup. I ended up buying a Swann kit instead on account of this.

    • which Swann kit? any deals on that now?

      • Nvr8-7450 & 4 x nhd855

Jb hifi sells this for 1300 but You can pick it up off eBay for 800+

The cameras are 5mp 1080p wheras the arlo is only 2mp 1080p

I Have just finished running the cables through my roof and still need to put the cameras up but there was little configuring after connecting the cables to the box. I guess this is the main advantage of the arlo with its easy wireless set up.

  • It appears to be out of stock…

  • Thanks, got one

  • too late again ..

  • I took too long researching and missed out!

    • you're my type! all the time :(

  • Bought one, great price.

  • Wasn’t there something soggy about recording costing extra or something ?? And only able to be done
    To their cloud server ?

    • +1

From what I have read you can cloud record 7 days of footage to their cloud free

But the footage is not continuous and in sequences whenever there is movement

Paid options don't allow it either but someone please correct me if I'm wrong

You can connect a USB stick to the base station but again it is only on short sequences activated during motion

      • Mostly correct.

Continuous video recording is available but it costs $129/year per camera for 14 days, or $249 for 30 days of history. It also requires the camera to be plugged in to power to have this always on, and it won't save it to USB hard drive.

I thought about CVR but decided against it. I'm happy with motion recording. Although I plug some cameras in which have high traffic and also ensures it is always up.

The USB stick only mirrors whatever is saved to the cloud - not a bad thing though. I actually really like the cloud first because I figured if someone had 'cased out my house' then they'd probably try to destroy the cameras/hub/internet connection (if they had planned ahead) and this way the footage is saved securely outside the house. Or maybe I watch too many movies.

  • Wow great deal! Just missed out.

  • +1

I would choose Reolink Argus 2. Cheaper and good quality recording. See youtube videos for the reviews.

    • Thanks for the tip. Reolink looks like a better option and cheaper too. I got 3 for $488 on ebay which is what I needed

      • Do you mind sharing the eBay link please?

        • This is the seller. You can see the various models and kits available. I also used CR, PULL5 and $5 seller discount on one of the items for additional savings.

        • @gimme:

          Thanks,

Does it have cloud recording? and I heard Arlo has siren, just wondering if there's a similar feature? Thanks for your time.

        • @vjoz:
no cloud.. I use my NAS. No idea about Siren. Haven't looked into that as I don't need it.

    • I really want to get some of these - the reviews look great !

  • Back on stock (I think back order) but price is $1199 and the code EGG15 doesn't work anymore.

  • Has anyone received any communication from wireless1 about shipping or confirmation ? Money has gone from credit card but till now no update …

  • Arlo pro 2's battery life are rechargeable, yes, but it drains fast. Its only edge is the 1080p resolution which i think causes the batteries to get quickly drained. I found this review about arlopro2 & arlopro. I don't entirely agree with what's in there but there are sections that are helpful. I still feel that the arlo pro would make a better choice, much cheaper too. I just hope on their next update, the siren is included on the camera itself, not on the base station. lol.
