Catch has 90 days plan 45gb for $15

Optus v Telstra wholesale m8, this will be the deciding factor for most

      • +2

        Limited Telstra network*

      • +2

It's barely Telstra. 10km out and i have no reception

        • +5

There are multiple places near me that are Telstra only reception, aldi works fine

        • +1

          @jjsnacks: lucky you

        • +1

          Where? That truly surprises me.

        • +1

          @sween64: north qld

        • @tomkun01: 10km out of where?

        • +2

          @sween64: charters towers

        • @tomkun01: So initially I thought you meant a capital city and that's why I was surprised.

Nonetheless Charters Towers has 3G with T Wholesale and 4G with T Retail. And the coverage that extends throughout the surrounding area is very poor with T Wholesale.

          Wholesale Coverage. Retail coverage

If you lived in the are you'd definitely pay the premium to be with Telstra Retail rather than Telstra Wholesale.

        • @sween64: no it's not worth the extra$20 a month for coverage in the sticks unless you go there a lot

        • @tomkun01: So who is your provider?

        • @sween64: switching to belong today

        • @tomkun01: Which is also Telstra Wholesale, right?

        • @sween64: yes but not$300 a year. A mere$120 without being locked in and with cumulative data

        • @tomkun01: Nice one. $10/month and 1GB data, right?

        • @sween64: yes and the data doesn't expire

      • Isn't Catch Voda …?

        • Catch Connect is through the Optus mobile network.

      • +2

Absolutely right, if one has to choose beteeen Telstra fail and anything else is choose anything else. Telstra has an outage once a week lately. Apologise from CEO one a week and analyst saying they are skimping on maintaining their network. Telstra is the new voda

        • +1

Used to be awesome with Google credit

    • +5

You can only get that once, and then it reverts to $89 per 90 days.

    • +3

      Try Belong:

      1st month $20 = 45GB
      month 2-12 @ $10 = +11GB

      Gives 56GB cost $130

if you need >80GB, do three months at $40 get 98GB and cost of $220 for the year…

      • Does the data rollover? Data banking or whatever they call it?

        • Yep all data rolls over

      • +1

Where can you find the $20, 45GB option?

I can only find the 1GB 5Gb and 15Gb options.

        • +1

I'm pretty sure you only recieve 30GB now (there was a promo a couple of months back giving you 45GB). You get 30GB with the $40/15GB option. I believe Belong have 2 billing dates, the 12th and 28th? of each month. When you sign up it credits your account with 15GB straight away. Then on the next billing cycle date it will credit your account with another 15GB and that becomes the actual date when you will be billed on a monthly basis.

      • +1

I don't think the extra data is valid anymore. That said, it still doubles data for the 1st month so that you can get 30GB with a $20 discounted starter kit. A better/cheaper way to add data is to buy more $20 discounted starter kits (currently available at Auspost), activate them on their own number, then transfer the data over to your main number. Just make sure you remember to cancel before the next payment.

        • Great advice petec, I was reading all these posts trying to figure out how it actually works.

    $25/month. 6.6GB/Month. Where’s MathNerd when u need him.

    • +42

      $24.92/month, 6.67GB per month ;)

      • +6

        Haha legend :)

  • +5

    Kogans better value

    • +6

      Pity the network isn't.

      • +7

Can't say it's better than Telstra but my experiences with Kogan and Vodafone have always been great living in Sth East QLD. They were cancer in Cairns though which I thought was really when they're the predominant advertiser at the airport.

        • +1

Me too. Kogan has been great. No issues like I had with Lebara.

  • +14

    Average. Deal at$200 perhaps

  • +2

I personally think Kogan Mobile is the best out there if you can get over the fact it uses Vodafone. I am on Telstra through work and travel interstate abit i'm am actually not as impressed with Telstra as the public hivemind is. I was on Kogan for a year before making the switch and i am actually disapointed with what i am getting now, i'm only sticking with Telstra at the moment because i'm basically getting my mobile phone services for free.

No i don't work for Kogan but 16gig 365 day plan (192 gig a year for those that care) through Kogan is 254. For $16 more than this deal you can get 23gig a month (276 gig a year).

Better yet just use that Catch link above.

    • +1

I agree. All my family is On Kogan and works perfect in metro. When I went to Sunshine Coast it was dropping out now and then but besides that no complaints. All the family is with Kogan now (two 16gb, one 6gb and one 2gb for the kids). Obviously if something cheaper will come along I will move once plans are over, otherwise I will just stay with them.

      • +4

Agree, the best thing with Kogan is 365 days, I hate to recharge every month, or like my mate keeps jumping different providers every month just to save a few $, absolutely painful!

    • I agree. After a few years of FOMO I got a 12 month Telstra contract. It was actually worse for me around the Newcastle area.

      • +3

It's all subjective. At my place Telstra is the only one that works reliably. 30m up the street is a different story. I don't like paying more for Telstra (aldi) but I'm stuck.

Take away: for coverage they all have their good and bad spots; choose accordingly; don't worry about other's opinions.

    • I went and checked the website to see if they were on sale again. I'm in my 2nd yearly deal I buy at the end of year when they had those big sales and I don't remember it being much cheaper than this if at all.

So that's just the regular price now it seems

    • One reason stopped me to move to Kogan is they don't have international roaming.
I do not really travel much or actually "using" it to call or internet overseas. I just need it to access to the local networks so that I can at least able to receive SMS.
I had experience that websites of banks, government, even Facebook and Gmail require account holder to get a SMS code in order to access your accounts, especially they detected you are accessing from overseas. I ended up need to call the bank from overseas to sort that out. So I never choose any mobile services without international roaming from that time.
Another way is to buy a prepaid sim with roaming service before your trip and call each of the companies to update your numbers…then change it back when you come back. But you have to make sure you have covered all….

But Kogan is really the best value one beside of this.

  • Why is this a current deal? One is unlikely to find it in store now given that it was on sale over a month ago. Existing customers only?

    • There were quite a few boxes left in Chadstone Aldi this evening…. in the display cabinet .

    • I saw some at Leopold, VIC this week.

  • Word of warning, I couldn't get data on the Melbourne inner train route with Aldi.

    • same. i think there's some range issue in that ring network

      • Yes, was a shame, otherwise it was really good

    • Which train line(s) or stations?

I'm able to get good data pretty much all the way up and down the Pakenham line and even (so surprised) inside the city loop.

  • +5

I still prefer the Woolworths $30 prepaid, which you can get for $27 using your everyday rewards card and then $25.65 using a discounted Wish e-Gift card. This comes to about $312 over 12 months and only has 60GB over this period but you do get unlimited calls to 10 countries and $100 credit for other countries. Unless you really need the full 80GB then I would think the Woolworths option is better and you don't have lock yourself in for a full year.

    • +4

And in 6 months time $27 will get you more data with Woolworths. This just isn't a good enough deal to lock yourself in for 12 months.

    • which network is woolies with?

      • Woolworths Group Limited ABN 88 000 014 675 uses parts of Telstra’s 4G and 3G mobile network.

      • Telstra.

    • +3

I also was using Woolies until an hour ago but switched to Aldi now. Woolies removed the Everyday 10% discount now.

      • Why didn't you choose belong?

  • +2

Is it 80GB per month? =)

    • +1

      No, per 365 days.

  • +1

    SUPER EXPENSIVE !!!
    Nothing good about this.
Works out at 6.6GB per month @ $25
Everyone doing unlimited calls now - even amaysim @ $10/28 days with 1GB data

  • Not a good deal.

  • +1

Isn't this the same deal as this?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/371838

  • I’m about to start on the big Oz circumnavigation. Figure it’ll take about three months and need a pre-paid data deal for my iPad. Which one should I get that will (probably) give me best coverage, given I’ll be spending most of my time back of beyond and away from the big cities?

  • Would like a one with international calls, anyone have suggestion? Appreciated

    • If you use the month to month aldi plans then the higher ones have free international calls to certain countries, etc.

eg XL pack is $35 pm, 10GB per month, but also free unlimited calls to Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Korea, Thailand, UK, & USA

  • Hey guys, any ozbargainers have had experience using also mobile ? Thinking of making the switch.

  • $179 at my local Aldi for now
