      • Thanks for the info guys. Reminded me of needing a replacement for my Blackvue as other cards are playing up. The dashcam might have some problem too, but will try this card first.

So, ordered 64GB instead from PCbyte.

The Sandisk Extreme is a good find, cheers!

Anyone have problems with their Samsung EVO+ 128GB microSD card?
I'm looking to buy it for dashcam, since I find my old Standard SanDisk 32GB running out of space and getting warm (signs of impeding death). I know the EVO+ isn't covered under warranty for continuous video recording, but I've heard Samsung's flash quality is the/one of the best. That some people reckon it serves well for dashcams, even without official support for it, which is why they're tempting.
….It seems like a Samsung EVO+ 128GB card is still cheaper than an Endurance/Extreme card rated for 64GB.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I'd one EVO+ 128GB in VioFo 119 that failed with a year and got it replaced by Shopping Square under warranty without any issue.

      High endurance?

  • In case people have forgotten, SanDisk are notoriously bad for Dashcams / constant write applications, and the high endurance lineup is no different.

If you’re after high endurance cards, go with Transcend / Silicon Power.

    • +1

I was about to say the same thing, SanDisk are well known for their bad behaviour in dash cameras but not sure if this high endurance line would change it somehow.

    • +1

… the high endurance lineup is no different.

      Source? Thanks.

Only asking because San Disk High Endurance cards are often recommended by the specialists, and are usually the best value.

      For example, https://www.carcamcentral.com/guide/recommended-sd-cards-avo…

I can't see a specialist seller recommending a card that is going to cost them significantly in warranty returns.

San Disk cards also rate high with customers on Amazon at 4.5 / 5, almost the same as Transcend but under half the cost.

      • Refer to point 18 from the article here: https://dashcamsaustralia.com.au/dash-cam-buyers-guide/

Point is, stability is something you should value above all else in a dashcam. Many people have been burned by SanDisk and it’s simply not worth the risk of lost footage when you may need it the most.

        • That's not a a source as it's several years old with incorrect infomation "Manufacturer warranties can be void if any SanDisk Micro SD card is used." their high endurance that came out in 2005 dose cover dash cam usage.

          As Procyon mentioned https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/the-days-of-saying-san…

Another thing is how many of these people who bought a sandisk SD from a unauthorized seller or god forbid a random seller on eBay so they are bad mouthing sandisk for their own actions?

        • @RandomFox:

The reference to void warranty is for the dashcam, not the memory card.

I don’t see how your assumption about people buying fakes is of any relevance here.

My point still stands - if you’re after peace of mind I would still stick to another brand. Once a bad name goes out for data storage products (see Seagate), there’s not much you can do to win your customers back.

        • Refer to point 18 from the article here: https://dashcamsaustralia.com.au/dash-cam-buyers-guide/

          Great. Thanks.

Hmmm, shame they don't actually mention the newer SanDisk High Endurance cards for clarification, but they do clearly say "all SanDisk cards".

Given that they don't sell any SanDisk cards, I wonder how they prove that San Disk High Endurance cards are generally bad, especially when the majority are recommending them (eg., https://www.rexingusa.com/choosing-a-memory-card/), and that the card failure rates are relatively low based on the ratings.

It's also curious that they go on to recommend and sell Samsung Evo cards which have no warranty for use in high endurance-use equipment, like dash cams. So if you buy a dash cam and it fails with a Samsung Evo card in it, it gives the manufacturer grounds to potentially reject your warranty claim no matter the real cause. That's not to say Evo cards aren't great, just that the risk of warranty-loss is increased.

So it seems contradictory that Car Cam Central would be so heavily concerned about warranty issues with one card, yet so careless with another.

        • @P1xellat3d:
I don't see how SanDisk SD cards that are counterfeit have no relevance in a discussion about SanDisk SD card reliability.

        • @surethang:
That's why I bought the SanDisk High Endurance, as they say it's designed for the constant usage and warranty. I felt as if buying a SD card that probably didn't even cover warranty if used in a dash cam that the SD card probably wodn't be up to the task

        • @RandomFox:

Because if you’re talking about reliability then you should be looking at it from equal grounds (I.e. genuine cards).

What’s the point of talking about counterfeits in this context? Every brand has them.

    • Maybe I've just been lucky but I've been using a Sandisk 32GB High Endurance card in my Viofo A119S V2 for just under 12 months without issue and this includes daily use during a very hot Sydney summer.

    • Correct me if I'm wrong but SanDisk High endurance is the only SD card I could find that warranty will cover for dash cam use.

All other SD card brands I checked said they won't cover warranty if used in a dash cam.

      • I wonder how they find out what application it was used under? Very curious …

        • +1

It wouldn't surprise me if they keep track of the number of writes in the firmware so could tell if you used it for a high write purpose.

  • I wonder how this compares with the one in the Swann security kit, I ordered from HN?
