Yada yada first deal post.

Was looking for some portable hard drives. Found these at Bing Lee. Limited stock, though I was able to price match the 2TB one at JB HI-FI. You could try at OW too.

$49 1TB - in Black only
$79 2TB - in Black, Blue
$149 4TB - in Black, White, Red, Blue

I price matched the 2TB white harddrive at OW and got the additional 5% off

    • Yeah I tried there first, but they insisted on confirming Bing Lee's stock.

I've just got off live chat and Bankstown seems to be the only place in stock for 1TB and 2TB is completely sold out.

Yep, got the extra 5% price guarantee from OW, Alexandria on a 4TB.

Showed them the Bing Lee listing.

Suggest going in near closing time as couldn’t be bothered checking their stock availability.

      • I sprung my price match at the counter. Would avoid phones if possible.

Won't touch WD I've had 5 faulty in less than 2 years then they replaced them with a factory refurbished that fail again what a con. But thanks for your time in posting p. Salad.

Thanks for the heads up. Hard drives are hard drives. That's why I bought 2 - one to backup the backup :p

    • so which brand of hard drives do you recommend touching? Seagate?

      • +6

I'm the complete opposite experience.. I wouldn't use a Seagate if it was given to me now.

I've had good experiences with WD, purchased a 500gb quite a while ago, 7+ years and it still works great.

    Are these shuckable?

    • +7

WD portable drives are non shuckable.

USB is directly soldered on the board.
Other issue being that if you wreck the usb port; your data is basically gone.

    • I have a 1.5TB WD My Passport portable that has security built into the firmware. You can't remove it even if you format the drive.

Every time an External Hard Drive gets posted someone's complaining about the brand regardless of what it is..

    • +4

People complain about anything that gets posted lol

  • It's also worth noting that they are formatted as fat32 so reformatting them to exfat or ntfs would be recommended for larger files

    • Very rare they come as Fat32 now. I bought one a few months back (WD Passport 4TB) and Seagate Slim 1TB all were NTFS formatted originally. Think the only ones that still make Fat32 mandatory is PlayStation consoles. They should get rid of it all together! I think 3.95Gb is the biggest file size you can do for Fat32

  • Why do they make them so damn ugly?

      Looks like a maxibon

    JB-HI FI or JB Hi-Fi ?

    • Thanks. Fixed it

      JV Hi-Five.

  • I've had my WD Elements 1TB for years, still going strong. Don't really know the build quality on these but I'll get a few 4TB ones for my PS4 game backups, specially since its jailbroken now :P

  • If you still have 20% off gift cards you will end up getting it cheaper from catch

  • Online chat told me these drivers are all sold out at Binglee.

  • True, been told viaChat that 2TB drives are sold out 😒

  • Would this work well with xbox one?

  • Damn. I bought 2 of these at lunchtime at JB for $109 each. The regret is so real.

Go back and get the difference back?
