The non-optional $69 router on the Kogan plan kills it for me.

        • They don’t let you provide your own?! Damn I was thinking of moving to them

        • @danboy4: Exetel have a pretty decent 50/20 plan without paying for a router. If I was planning on switching to them I would even go for the 12 month plan since $60 for 50/20 unlimited is really cheap. But I've never used them so can't comment on their service.

    • 50/20 500GB $60/mth

      That's from Telecube. Link

  • +1

Struggling with the huge amount of this increase…not only did it dawn on me that May wasn't winter and we still have 3 months to go, today is the first day of looking for dusty ozbargained jackets (Melbourne)…I thought fine, I can deal with this, sun is out…then Telecube offer no explanation for gouging us an additional $16…This means I have to pick a day in the week to forego a coffee or put up with dropping down to a buzzbox versus the v8 I was driving.
I know no other options have jumped out as of yet, though I too will be looking to bail before June 14th or soon thereafter as it is simply too much per month for a decent speed that I can justify and I'm more in the 1tb v 500gb bucket.
Hopefully another decent and reliable company will see this as an opportunity to poach those of us who are wanting to bail, so although I'm no Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Tubeman, I do have my hand up waving out to someone with a deal!

  • +10

Will be leaving them ASAP and making sure if they ever post another OzBargain 'deal' I'll warn everyone about their bait and switch tactics. Such a shame because I'm all for giving the little guy a go. If they has any marketing experience they would know it's much better to retain a customer than try to get new ones.

Has anyone got any feedback on Mate NBN? Their nbn 50 plan is cheaper than Telecube PLUS they don't charge a sign up fee.
From their website: $0 setup fee, BYO modem, unlimited data, uncapped for life, no contracts, ever, no plan change fees. Even if they were to do a bait and switch you can leave any day you please.

    • +5

If they had just increased their prices after the initial string of offers I think they would have been fine.

But to keep offering these prices and then suddenly to apply the increase across all customers is fairly low in my opinion.

I imagine it will be hard for them to recover their reputation after this, that being said I can them posted more 'bargains' in the future.

    • +2

UPDATE: The $59/m is for 6 months only then $69/m. At least Mate NBN is upfront about it.

      • You know 100% that it won't increase again during that time? Its a casual contract isn't it?

    • +2

I signed up to AussieBB while lying in bed reading that email this morning. Was working by the time I finished my morning.. ahem.. business.

      • You do your business in bed?

    • not only that their support has gone to sh!t and quality of service sketchy at best with many dropouts.

  • +1
    • Can anyone vouch for them?

  • +1

thinking of giving them the flick and going to either Aussie BB or even Mungi, but I have $10 credit sitting with TC.. annoying and not sure if I want to stick around another month with these bait & switch cowboys. Anyone with Mungi care to share their thoughts? Mungi 65/month with unlimited 50/20mb seems a bit too good to be true..

    • Been with Mungi since Buzz telco closed down. I am on 50/20 . The speed I am getting can’t be comparable at par with plan. I think Mungi is just ok in every sense. Buzz provided me better speed on same plan.

      • What speeds do you get with Mungi?

  • Exetel offering nbn100 unlimited data $69.99 a month, no lock in contract. Worth the switch?

    • I'm paying 65/month for 100/40 500gb with TC now but Exetel is extremely cheap. Dont mind downgrading to the 50/20 500gb for $60/month with Exetel if their service is reliable.. anyone care to share?

      • would like to know how is their service?
looking for $70 for tier 100 or $60 for tier 50

      • Im on unlimited 50/20 with Exetel for $59 per month.
I just use my old Telstra supplied modem with the new email and password.

Works fine. No drop outs yet after 4 months of being with them. (Telstra dropped out a few times over a 12 month period).
I get pretty much the same download and upload speeds I got when with Telstra. I stream Netflix and foxtel, play games and download and upload stuff. Been great for me.

    • +4

I cant find this deal from their site. It shows $89.99 to me for nbn100 unlimited data
      https://www.exetel.com.au/broadband/nbn

    • Where? For 1000GB it’s like $85

  • +4

at least buzztelco didn't hike prices even until the minute they went down.

buzz even reduce prices across all existing customers to match new promo price.

    • yeh i loved BuzzTelco. RIP for the fallen brother

    • +3

That might be the reason buzz didn’t survive in business.

  • +1

fwiw i just had an online chat at TC website with Graeme, and he seemed rather empathetic about the whole situation.

I queried about getting the online credit back if I ported to another provider and he confirmed that credit will be refunded.

I explained to him how I felt this price hike was a case of bait and switch and he agrees. I told him to send a rep here to address our concerns.

Not sure if that'll happen but until then I'll need to find a decent provider to change to.

    • +1

I spoke to graeme too - he helped me get online.

Helpful guy and actually called me on a mobile phone. I liked him - gonna stay with them on my $55 plan (as it hasn't changed!)

      • I decided I'll be staying another month and downgrading to the $60 50/20 500gb, because of his good customer service. We shall see how this pans out.

  • +5

Just signed up for Aussie Broadband. Takes 20 minutes to switch over if you have an existing connection. For my suburb they're on a 'Stop Sell'. This basically means they're not connecting any new users until the have additional capacity which is June 30. For the inconvenience they gave me 1 month free for any plan of my choosing (including 100/40). No connection fee, no contract and can swap plans anytime. Plus for every friend you refer they'll give you another 1 month free. No limit on referrals.

    • +3

They sound like a company worth supporting. First time I hear an ISP actually worry about user experience.

  • Newsprout did the exact same thing. Can't support a business that does that to it's customers.

  • +5

Telecube rep is lost somewhere. So many postings about "bait & switch" plans. But not one comment here. Helloooo.. Rep?

Just revoked my +ve vote from previous deals. The least I can do here. And yes, switching over to ABB now.

    • wish i could change my + vote to a - and not just revoke it

    • +3

He's busy over at whirlpool. :)

      • would be an interesting read (public flogging) if anyone has a link?

  • I think ill stay if they dont change my plan price. Might be like the new buzz telco/. Cheapest around still, maybe slightly annoying but much cheaper.

  • Just switched to abb. The connection shut down 1 hr later. Now waiting to reconnect. Fingers crossed. Downgraded to 50 speed 500gb plan for $74. $9 a month more but I’d rather pay it out of principle plus their speeds will be more consistent and customer service will be bettter that telecube. I notice now that they aren’t even answering their sales. Phone calls. Everything directed to live chat. The cowards must be getting ozbargained.

    • TC's 50/20 500gb plan is $60 so you're paying $14 a month more.

      https://www.telecube.com.au/internet/nbn/plans/special/E4840…

      • +2

Correct! Maths plus Aldi port doesn’t equate to much.
Still happy to pay $14 to get away from these shysters and join a reputable company.

    • It's just standard telecube hahaha

      • Yeah, they never have anyone answering the phone on the first place, lol. Email or livechat

    • Also that's 500GB for all data transferred on ABB. TC's 500GB is for peak downloads, all uploads and off peak downloads are unlimited.

  • Feels like a bite. Not hayppy.

However I've downgraded to 50/20 500GB, as the original plan was an overkill anyway. And my time is tight up, don't want to spend time shop around.

  • +1

Pretty much hit the nail into the coffin for me as well, been having a lot of drop outs and no internet connections during weekends for the past month.
No support when you need them and receive some email support after multiple escalations. I wouldn't recommend their services to anyone.
Going with either ABB or lets be mates.

    • good to hear im not the only one with connection issues - mine (net/voip) has been woeful for the past 6 months

  • +1

Lucky I switched to Mungi after Buzz went down. Unlimited 100/40 at $70/m for 5 months then $75/m after. Pretty good deal, for now anyway…

    • Yep, Mungi seems like the best deal on this tier. What's the service and speeds in the evenings like?

    • How are they? Great price

    • +1

Mungi are cheap but are still Vocus layer 3. You will experience slowdowns in the evening. They trialed Layer 2 but then canned it for some reason.

I highly recommend ABB and it's no lock-in to try them.

    • I get the exact same speeds from Mungi compared to Buzz, around 70/30 not the best but good enough for FTTN. I don't experience much congestion during peak hours either but haven't done a speed test to confirm. This is in Kilburn, SA.

Because we are pretty heavy downloaders and I often stream Youtube in 4K and Netflix in UltraHD so I don't really bother with data-limited plans. I game quite a bit too. BF1 ping stays at around 30ms all day. For $75/m (after the promo period) I can't really complain.

Not sure about L3/L2 stuff as I don't look into that too much. Mungi also offers no lock-in contracts.

As for customer service, they have been great for me. I like that there are so many ways you can contact them (Facebook chat, live chat, phone and email).

    • I've just put in my churn request to move to Mungi. Interested to see how these guys go. Hopefully they don't succumb to price pressures like telecube have just done.

The first thing that stands out to me is how much better the Mungi user portal is vs Telecube (which isn't a high bar, I know).

      • Telecube's portal was terribly complex. It was as though they had a specific audience in mind that happens to be very tech savvy.

I couldn't figure it out and gave up. I was regretting not being able to switch to them, but in hindsight feel like I dodged a bullet.

    • switched to Mungi after Buzz. Not happy with connection. With Buzz i was getting 40-44 up constantly. Now i am getting very inconsistent and choppy service. speed mainly around 20-35up at anytime. But getting lots of buffering while watching instagram/fb vids, annoying.

      • Exactly same experience with Mungi.

        • Hello! I just saw this comment. I did raise a fault with them, did a lot of speed tests and screenshots. Person advised that they have changed the lines but its still so inconsistent. And I know that I get dropouts even though the wifi button is still showing (mobile) because I'll be playing an online game and get "connection lost". Might be jumping ship soon :(

        • @kza2610: fttn?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: yup FTTN. I know that speeds wouldn't be optimal, but comparing to my previous plan on Buzz which was perfect, my connection is quite bad now.

  • I recommend Kogan - pretty good deal at 50/20mbps unlimited for $58. Fast and no issues so far.

    • +4

But you're forced to buy a $69 modem.

      • True not everyone needs a modem but if you do, its a great deal. Customer support is fairly quick too.

      • Surely not on HFC…

    • Kogan on vocus too I guess?

    • Thinking Kogan or Exetel on 50/20 plans. Any feedback on them?

      • Exetel has been going great for me. See my above comment.

        • Thanks for the reply pinch. I do a lot of Netflix, P2P and run a plex server to a few friends. Any feedback for those uses?

        • +1

@Bellpop: I do all those things and I live in spring hill so fairly busy area. Doesn't even slow down in peak times with Kogan (not that I have noticed). I download and also stream a good amount of 4k content with no issues.

        • @ruddiger7: thanks ruddiger (like bart Simpson’s, right? Funny!)

There’s close to nothing online re Logan internet regarding reviews.

Does it include a static (or even dynamic) iP which is needed for plex server

          Thanks again for the info

  • +4

Make sure you give your feedback on Product Review too

  • From the T&C
15.2 Subject to clauses 3.2.2 and 8.2, if you cancel your services we will refund any prepaid account balance; however if you port your services away from us no refunds will be issued. The account credit will always remain active though and can be used for our other services.

So does that mean I have to cancel before churning? Has anyone that's ported away received a refund as yet? I'd ask tech support but my month will probably be up by the time I get a reply :-)

I've pretty much decided on signing with Aussie as I could handle the lack of support or slowdowns at peak times (Sundays are particularly terrible here) when it was saving me money but it's pretty much the same price now so screw that.

    • +1

Depends on what type of NBN you have. If it's FTTP you have 4 ports, so you can connect to another port. wait until its active switch your modem, then cancel your service, that way you get the refund.

  • +2

Just not happy. This is the first time ever i have seen such a price hike with any service and even worse is the excuse.

    • -3

First of all I bet %99 of people on 100/40 don't even need that speed and you got that plan because of the convenient price and nothing else. So get on the 50/20 1TB plan that has great value instead of winging about your current plan which speeds you can not utilize any way due to the degraded quality of the TC network. The network instability should be your main concern not the price hike.

      • +1

I get 93/37 consistently only my TC connection.

        • Same here (Perth FTTN)

  • any good layer 2 provider with reasonable price?

    • +1

Mind explaining what layering mean in this context? Cheers

      • Layer 1 is connected to the 121 POI.
Layer 2 is connected to POPs in each capital city.

        This could be grossly inaccurate.

        • Need to dumb it down a bit even more for us troglodytes haha lol

  • +1

I agree, service from TC with an elongated set up was poor… Ironically I switched from ABB as they were getting quite slow evenings and dropping out enough to do my head in… Where to now? Is there such a thing as no drop outs? I'm getting them on TC enough to annoy me so their existing product was rich, the new price I'd class as greedy given the quality and service when in need

    • Same as you. Wondering what to do now.

  • -6

I've been with Telecube for over a year on the 100/40 1000GB plan and have got excellent value for money.

Yes I'd rather not pay the extra $15 a month, but really Telecube's plan price value has been unmatched IMO.

To do this they must competitive margins - that means low buffer to absorb wholesale increases.

We can scream and whinge all we like, but if it's not sustainable it's a pointless expectation.

We've been spoilt compared to other providers and it's hard to swallow an increase but blame the NBN government.

Telecube can increase prices or decrease performance. They're a "performance-for-what-it-costs" service (IMO) and

I'm staying with Telecube. My connection meets my expectation. No one else can offer better (that I've seen) - for a reason.

    • +13

It's not the price for most people, it's the way it's been handled.

TC have been spamming OzB and WP with offers for the past couple of months to get new customers on board. And very shortly after, they've jacked up prices (via a very abrupt and vague email no less). Now there's basically two scenarios here:
      - the business is poorly managed, and the price hike is a snap reactionary move, or
      - they knew the price rise was coming, and lured in new customers with false promises anyway in the hopes that a bunch will pay a lazy tax after the price rise was announced.

Either way, it does not inspire confidence in the businesses operations. Personally, I'm ditching them in the same way that I'd ditch a tradie that suddenly wants to charge 30% more than they quoted, with no obvious explanation.

      • +4

        Fair call and agreed.

      • There's a bit more to it than what you've mentioned. They've had NBN offers going back for around a year or more (I think the earlier offers were on Whirlpool only and then they started on ozbargain too). If someone jumped on board earlier, then they would have enjoyed the cheaper plan which was well worth it compared to other providers. I signed up in October last year so I've used them for about 6-7 months and been reasonably happy to this point. I guess there was always a risk that they would increase the price but I never knew when that would happen till I got the email.

Having said that, I do agree that offering the cheap price plan for new customers who joined in the last month and then changing the price now is really bad on their part.

        • +2

Most of those early adopters (myself included) paid a $99 signup fee which somewhat negated the cheap monthly rate.

        • +1

@schmuppet: I've thought about that too, you would feel it for the first month. But if you've used them for long enough, it would have ended up saving you money compared to the 100/40 plan from other providers.

        • +2

          @schmuppet:
I worked out the $99 setup paid for itself inside the 6 month price guarantee.
Been connected with them for 15 months now and I'm well and truly ahead and still nothing that can compete on price, let alone quality.

      • change of ownership perhaps? or just coincidence service level has plummeted, support now non existent price hikes?

  • -1

Still worth it for $15 extra but the price difference between them and AussieBB is much narrower. Telecube have always been great for speeds and support but unfortunately they are at the mercy of Vocus so that have occasional outages. AussieBB have their own POIs so they are more reliable. For $85 I could get 100/40 500GB AussieBB vs Telecube 1000GB. Decisions Decisions.

    • I was under the impression Telecube have their own POI's

      • +3

        Definitely not

      • +1

Not their own NBN POI's but they do have aggregation points in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

    • +1

Care to elaborate on great support? I’m with them, happy so far, cheap & not many issue. But great support? Seriously, ur probably the only one saying that. For most I know, nobody answering the phone, live chat not on during the working hours, and slow reply on email

      • Their support is local and pretty good from my experience . *The caveat being "When you can actually get ahold of someone" .
        Good luck with that :P

      • Perhaps they have slipped since I needed it?

    • I am stuck finding a provider that still does 25Mbps plans.

Dont want to pay for what I cannot receive! nbn's estimate is 30Mbps.., and from feedback, their estimates are high.

Already have single line in the house etc that was implemented to improve ADSL.

Most providers do not even sell 25Mbps plans anymore.
